GMRL plans to revise cost of Gurugram Metro project to ₹10,000 crore
The provisions of the detailed project report (DPR) allow 5 per cent per annum escalation in the project, GMRL officials added.
GMRL has also reworked estimates for the cost of setting up stations, adding the rolling stacks and change in GST rates.
The Gurugram Metro project is now likely to be completed for over ₹10,000 crore instead of the earlier approved ₹5,452 crore, according to the revised estimate proposed by GMRL. The additional costs being proposed by the metro corporation are on account of changes in the cost of alignment and formation from the sanctioned ₹1100 crore to over ₹1700 crore, increase in cost of station buildings from the sanctioned ₹756 crore to over ₹1350 crore. The cost of building the depot has increased from the sanctioned ₹80 crore to over ₹200 crore. Another major increase is the cost of acquiring the rolling stock from the sanctioned ₹480 crore to ₹1250 crore, officials said.
According to the GMRL proposal, the sanctioned cost of the project is ₹5,452 crore while the revised cost of the project will be over ₹9,800 crore, with an additional spur to the Gurugram railway station that will cost over ₹400 crore, taking the total cost of the project to over ₹10,000 crore.
'The proposal is likely to be submitted for the next GMRL board meeting scheduled to be held on June 16,' a senior government official, requesting anonymity said.
The metro corporation's proposal has justified the increase in the project cost stating that there has been price escalation in the last six years since 2019, when the price was set for the project estimate. It added that GST rates have been increased from 12% to 18% since then.
The proposal further said that another reason for the increase in the cost of the metro project is the non-availability of rapid metro infrastructure which was considered while calculating the original cost. There is also an increase in the requirement of coaches for the Gurugram metro project, while the approved DPR took into account only 60 coaches. A new spur has been added to connect the Gurugram railway station with the Sector 5 metro station, the proposal said.

HYDERABAD: The proposed 'Unity Mall' for which excavation work is nearing completion will no longer be limited to a six-storey building but would instead be the tallest mall in Hyderabad. The government is believed to have approved the revised plans to build the 50-storey tower at a cost of Rs 1,500 crore in PPP mode on the 5.16 acres of land belonging to the Telangana State Leather Industries Promotion Corporation in Raidurg. According to officials, the redesigned mall will have at least five basements for parking and other facilities, six floors dedicated to hosting exhibitions for textile, handloom and crafts products and 39 floors for commercial usage. The total area of the tower would be 30 lakh sq ft. The implementing agency of the project is Telangana Trade Promotion Corporation (TGTPC). Officials said that the estimated cost of the project is Rs 1,500 crore and will be built under Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode. It may be recalled that the Union government decided to construct 'Unity Malls' across the country under 'One District - One Product' scheme, which is envisaged to exhibit and promote the local handlooms and crafts at one place. As a part of this, the Union government had allocated Rs 202 crore of which Rs 101 crore was released for constructing the Unity Mall. Gachibowli land value behind 50-storey decision Initially, the state government intended to construct the mall with six floors. But, after considering the land value in the Gachibowli area, it was decided to opt for a tower to optimally utilise the land value. Officials said that the Centre has given approval for Detailed Project Report (DPR) for constructing the 50-storey mall. The Airports Authority of India also issued No Objection Certificate. Meanwhile, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy reviewed the progress of this project. During the meeting, the officials explained the status of the project. According to the officials, 90% of the excavation work has been completed at a cost of Rs 10.1 crore. With this, the chief minister instructed the officials to speed up the works and call for tenders as early as possible.

Company hired, work on Gurgaon metro Phase 1 may start this month
Gurgaon: Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) has finalised an agency for phase 1 of the metro project, with work set to be awarded soon. The agency has been instructed to mobilise machinery and resources at the site to start construction by the end of the month. Phase 1 of the project, estimated at Rs 1,277 crore, will include a 15.3 km elevated corridor from Millennium City Centre to Sector 9 with 14 stations, a 1.8 km spur to the Dwarka Expressway, and a ramp to connect the Sector 33 depot. Also, the agency will construct viaducts, stations, entry and exit structures, utility shifting, drainage works, track laying and integration with existing transport systems. Once approved, barricading will begin at the construction zones. "We have finalised the agency, and the work will be awarded soon after following the due process. The groundbreaking ceremony is expected to be held within this month. We have asked the agency to get ready and expedite preparatory work so that civil construction can start on time. Traffic management will be implemented in a way that minimises inconvenience to commuters," a GMRL official said. The traffic management plan will involve creating temporary diversions and alternative routes, setting up barricades and warning signage, and deploying traffic marshals in coordination with police to manage traffic. The plan also includes working during off-peak and night hours to reduce congestion, as well as ensuring pedestrian safety through designated walkways. Also, the metro authority is planning to widen roads so that at least two lanes remain open in each direction even after an 8-metre-wide section is occupied for metro construction. Starting from Millennium City Centre, the stations on this section will be Sector-45, Cyber Park, Sector 47, Subhash Chowk, Sector 48, Sector 33, Hero Honda Chowk, Udyog Vihar 6, Sector 10, Sector 37, Basai, and Sector 9. From Basai, a spur will be connected to the Dwarka Expressway at the Sector 101 station. The project, expected to be over by 2028, will cover 30.5 km and eventually connect Millennium City Centre to Cyber City with 28 stations, including the spur from Basai and Gurgaon Railway Station. Nagpur metro phase 2 to shift night time maintenance to new terminal stations
Nagpur: Nagpur Metro 's Phase 2 will not just expand the network but also change the way it is maintained every night. The stabilising lines and pit lines, currently located at Phase 1 terminal stations, will be shifted to the new endpoints under Phase 2, confirmed a senior MahaMetro official. This shift, officials said, will streamline operations, cut idle travel time, and help trains begin their daily service directly from the city's outermost points. Under the plan, the last stations at Kanhan, Transport Nagar, Butibori MIDC-ESR, and Hingna will be equipped with these facilities. This means that the existing Phase 1 terminals, which are at Khapri, Automotive Square, Prajapati Nagar, and Lokmanya Nagar, will no longer function as overnight hubs for regular upkeep once the second phase is commissioned. The stabilising line is used to park trains after daily service so they can cool down, undergo routine checks, and be readied for the next day, while the pit line has inspection pits that allow technicians to check undercarriages, clean, and carry out minor repairs. For Phase 2, MahaMetro will operate three-car trains in a DMC–TC–DMC configuration, each 21.94 metres long and 2.9 metres wide.
