Helen Hunt, 61, reveals she does not diet, use Botox, or get plastic surgery
Helen Hunt, 61, refuses to conform to Hollywood's beauty standards but admits she used to feel pressure to look a certain way.
Speaking to Flow Space, she said: 'It felt impossible not to internalize the way you're supposed to look. And [there was] a certain amount of misery and shame around not looking exactly that way.'
Helen realized that Hollywood's beauty standards were affecting her self-esteem but she now would not allow outside pressures to damage her mental health.
Helen said: 'I realized, "This could quietly ruin your whole life." I made a decision: I'm not playing. Not gonna [let it] take up a lot of space in my mind.'
Her new approach has been heavily influenced by The Only Diet There Is, a book written by the spiritual leader Sondra Ray.
The actress said: 'What I took from it, is eat what you want and love every bite, period.'
This also meant Helen has refused Botox and plastic surgery as she prefers to age naturally.
Meanwhile, she admitted to obsessing about her appearance in the 80s after feeling pressure to look a certain way at the time - but a change of attitude has proven to be transformational for her.
Speaking to HuffPost Live, Helen said: 'I had my run in the 80s about being really worried about how I looked. Everybody was more fit, or more thin, and I maxed out on worrying about it.'
Helen's change in attitude has benefited her mental and physical health.
The actress said: 'I just gave up on worrying about it. When I gave it up, my brain and body got better.
'I was taking these exercise classes called abs, thighs, and buns and I was like, "I'm going to be dead one day — do I really want to give up an hour in this class?"'
Helen has an Academy Award, four Emmys, and four Golden Globes under her belt.
She's known for her roles in film, theater, and television, including the NBC sitcom Mad About You (1992–1999) and the 1997 romantic comedy As Good as It Gets. For her portrayal of Jamie Buchman in Mad About You, Hunt won four Emmys, three Golden Globes, and a Screen Actors Guild Award.
While decades have passed since Helen played Sarah Jessica Parker 's free-spirited best friend in Girls Just Want To Have Fun (1985), Helen still carries that unmistakable movie-star glow.
She was seen last month's Vanity Fair Oscar Party, where she wowed in a chic Christian Siriano gown and held hands with Nordling.
The couple first crossed paths while co-starring in Shooter, a 1988 NBC movie about war photographers working in Vietnam.
She played Tracey, while he took on the role of Matt Thompson - but romance didn't seem to spark back then.
Fast forward to May 2022, and fans started speculating that their could be love blossoming between the pair when Jeffrey shared a group photo from Dodger Stadium, where he and Helen were hanging out with Camryn Manheim and Billie Jean King.
By October, they made things official with a red carpet debut at the Los Angeles Philharmonic's 20th Anniversary Gala at the Walt Disney Concert Hall.
Hunt was born on June 15, 1963, in Culver City, California, and began acting as a child, making her television debut in the 1973 series Pioneer Woman.
She gained widespread recognition for her role as Jamie Buchman in Mad About You (1992–1999), earning four Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.
In 1997, Hunt won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance as Carol Connelly in As Good As It Gets, starring opposite Jack Nicholson.
She continued her on screen success with leading roles in Twister (1996), Pay It Forward (2000), and The Sessions (2012), the latter earning her an Oscar nomination.
Hunt made her feature film directorial debut with Then She Found Me (2007).
She was married to producer Matthew Carnahan from 2001 to 2017, and they had a daughter, Makena Lei Gordon Carnahan in 2004.
In the last five years, Hunt reprised her iconic role as Jamie Buchman in the Mad About You revival, which aired in 2019 on Spectrum Originals.
She has also directed episodes of popular TV shows, including Blindspotting (2021) and The Politician (2020).

Lisa Kudrow says her Friends character Phoebe ‘was so far from who I am'
US actress Lisa Kudrow has said it was 'a lot of work' playing her Friends character Phoebe Buffay as she 'was so far from who I was as a human being'. The 61-year-old from Los Angeles played one of six friends featured in the hit US sitcom which also starred Jennifer Aniston, David Schwimmer, Matt Le Blanc and the late Matthew Perry. Advertisement Speaking to US actress Parker Posey for Variety's Actors On Actors series, she said: 'It (the series) was fun the whole time, because we had fun, the cast had fun. 'It was like a collaboration with the writers, because they were so great and nice and good. 'But me being Phoebe was so far from who I was as a human being that it was work. 'I needed to justify everything she was saying in my head so that it felt like she meant it and it was real to her. It was a lot of work. Advertisement 'And I remember like season two or three, and I was just doing it, and went, 'Oh my god, I'm not doing the work. I don't know if this is going as well. I'm not doing the work'. 'I was really fretting over it. And (Matt) LeBlanc went, 'What's the matter with you?'. I said, 'I'm not doing the work that I did. I used to like really work, and he said, 'You're her. You don't have to do it anymore'.' Alongside her role in Friends, Kudrow is known for starring in a number of TV series as well as comedy films Romy and Michele's High School Reunion and The Opposite Of Sex. In 2023 she thanked her late co-star Perry for 'the best 10 years a person gets to have' while filming Friends in a tribute following his death at the age of 54. Advertisement During their conversation, Posey, who has starred in films including Dazed And Confused and Superman Returns, spoke about one of her more recent roles playing a southern woman called Victoria Ratliff in season three of Mike White's dark comedy, The White Lotus. She said: 'It was such a gift to have this middle-aged woman at this time in my life, in my career, to be the southern woman. 'I was reading Tennessee Williams in junior high and high school and southern writers and all of this. So I was like, I just ate it up.'

EXCLUSIVE Jessica Alba looks MISERABLE reuniting with estranged husband Cash Warren at daughter's graduation
Jessica Alba tried to put her best face forward as she attended her daughter's eighth grade graduation on Friday. The actress, 44, who celebrated her single status in a bikini, seemed somewhat distraught as she spoke with a friend at the ceremony in Los Angeles. The Trigger Warning star looked casually chic in a cream toned jacket and crop top over a pair of straight leg jeans. Her long, dark blonde hair was styled straight and she wore natural-looking makeup. The L.A.'s Finest star accessorized with large hoop earrings and three stacked necklaces. The event was to celebrate Alba's daughter Haven, 13, and her classmates successfully completing middle school. The Fantastic Four actress was joined by her estranged husband Cash Warren, 46, who looked relaxed in a pair of tan chinos and a blue and white golf shirt and sneakers. Her older daughter, Honor, 16, looked sweet in a long red and white dress. The teen's long, dark locks were styled into long braids which cascaded down her back. Alba was seen arriving with son Hayes, seven, who looked adorable in a navy blue sweater over a white collared shirt, jeans, sneakers and a white billed cap. Alba and Warren announced their separation on January 16, and Alba formally filed for divorce in February, citing irreconcilable differences. 'I've been on a journey of self-realization and transformation for years – both as an individual and in partnership with Cash,' the El Camino Christmas star explained as she announced the split on social media. 'I'm proud of how we've grown as a couple and in our marriage over the last 20 years and it's now time for us to embark on a new chapter of growth and evolution as individuals.' A source who spoke to Life & Style said the former couple, who tied the knot in a courthouse ceremony in 2008, are trying to keep their kids lives as normal as possible amid the big life change. The insider indicated they may follow the lead of former spouses Demi Moore and Bruce Willis and former partners Bradley Cooper and Irina Shayk by taking family vacations together. Alba and Warren have listed their Beverly Hills home for $19 million and Warren reportedly has been checking out high-end real estate for his new digs. 'As much as Jessica is embracing change for herself, she's still very concerned about maintaining as much of the status quo for her kids as she can. Doing holidays with Cash feels like an important tradition to try to maintain,' they explained. 'Hayes is only 7, he wants both his parents there when he does his Easter egg hunt. Honor and Haven are teenagers but it's still important for Jess that they feel they have some semblance of a family.' The Meet the Keswanis producer was spotted leaving an open house at a six-bedroom dwelling in the Sherman Oaks area recently. The property is listed as costing $6.5 million. Alba has not been sitting on her laurels since her exit from the Honest Company in 2024. She founded her own production company, Lady Spitfire the same year. 'I'm thrilled that in this stage of my life and career, I get to create and build, and Lady Spitfire is part of this next chapter,' Alba told Deadline. 'Reimagining and redefining how women and minorities show up in the world through great stories is my passion,' she said. 'I believe that my children and the next generation shouldn't have to face the same barriers as I have. Inspired by the heroes whose shoulders I humbly stand on, I feel it is my duty to make it easier for dreams to be realized and potential to be met for women and minorities, particularly those in my community.' Alba has several upcoming projects, including the series Confessions on the 7:45, with Eva Longoria directing.
