Sociological Association discusses "Social Ideas"
Sessions aim to discuss the most prominent contemporary social issues of interest to researchers and specialists in the social sciences.
The Majlis brings together a select group of academics and experts in this field to exchange views and ideas on issues affecting modern societies.
The Majlis will be held on Teams, allowing participants from various locations to join and participate in this valuable event and contribute to meaningful discussions that focus on the pressing social issues of the moment.
The virtual Ramadan sessions will begin on March 16th, following the Isha and Tarawih prayers. The second session will be held on March 18th, and the third session will be held on March 22nd.
Challenges of Social Policy
One of the most prominent topics to be discussed at the council will be a lecture by Dr. Sayed Abdel Rahman, Associate Professor of Sociology in the Department of Sociology and Social Work at the University of Science and Technology in Fujairah, titled "Challenges of Social Policy in the Modern Era: Visions and Dimensions." Dr. Sayed Abdel Rahman will offer an analytical perspective on the challenges facing social policy today, exploring the various dimensions of these challenges and how to address them.
Reading's role in sustainable development
Professor Rafia Al Hammadi, member of Sociological Association, will also deliver a lecture titled "Reading: A Source of Innovation and the Foundation of Sustainable Development." She will discuss the impact of reading on promoting innovation and its pivotal role in achieving sustainable development.
Social researchers influencing society
Dr. Noura Qanifa, Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology at the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at the University of Sharjah, will address the role of social researchers in influencing society and promoting positive change. She will also highlight the importance of "social voice" in highlighting the issues of individuals and communities and review how to use effective research tools to achieve desired social change.
Raising social awareness
Dr. Mohammed Hamdan bin Jarsh Al Suwaidi, Chairman of the Cultural Committee and Board Member, emphasised that the virtual Ramadan Majlis, organised by Sociological Association under the theme "Social Ideas," constitutes an important platform for exchanging ideas and experiences on contemporary social issues.
Dr. Mohammed Hamdan bin Jarsh Al Suwaidi explained that the Majlis aims to raise social awareness and deepen collective understanding of current challenges, noting the importance of the participation of academics and experts in enriching discussions, which will contribute to finding practical solutions to social challenges in society.

Hamdan Foundation Advances to Judging Stage of 2025 Medical Awards After Screening 330 Submissions
Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation for Medical and Educational Sciences has announced the completion of the screening process for the 2025 Medical Awards, which aim to recognize outstanding achievements in healthcare at both the local and regional levels. According to the awards committee, this year's cycle received a total of 330 submissions from 18 countries, including the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Egypt, Oman, Iraq, India, Kuwait, the United Kingdom, Qatar, Jordan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Morocco, the United States, Pakistan, Tunisia, Syria, and Ghana. Following an initial review, 261 submissions advanced to the administrative and technical screening stage, which involved verifying compliance with the award's eligibility criteria and guidelines. Of those, 161 applications were confirmed as eligible and are now set to proceed to the judging phase, scheduled to begin on 2 June and continue until 15 October. The judging process will be carried out by specialized committees comprising distinguished experts in the field. Each submission will be assessed according to the specific evaluation criteria established for each award category. Dr. Salama Al Muhairi, Director of Medical Excellence at Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation, emphasized the significance of this stage, noting that the evaluation and screening of submissions adhere to the highest standards to ensure transparency and fairness throughout the process. She added that these efforts reflect the merit and credibility of the Medical Excellence Awards, which seek to spotlight innovations and achievements that contribute to the advancement of medical practices. The awards also aim to encourage and support researchers in producing impactful and innovative studies in medicine and healthcare. The Foundation is committed to sharing the benefits of award-winning work, offering it as a source of inspiration and a model for excellence in scientific and medical fields. These achievements also contribute to the development of new solutions to address growing challenges in the healthcare sector. The Medical Excellence Awards consist of two main categories. The first is dedicated to supporting health and research achievements across the Arab world and includes the Arab Award for Health Sector Research and the Arab Award for Genetic Sciences. The second category focuses on recognizing exceptional contributions within the United Arab Emirates and includes the Best Research in Healthcare Award, the Innovation in Healthcare Award, and the Hamdan Award for Distinguished Personalities. Over previous cycles, the awards have garnered wide recognition and attracted high-quality submissions from both inside and outside the UAE. This success reflects the Foundation's commitment to supporting innovation and fostering a culture of excellence in the healthcare sector, while highlighting major accomplishments in scientific research and healthcare delivery.

Watch: Top students, teachers honoured with Dubai's Hamdan Awards
Dubai: The Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation for Medical and Educational Sciences Awards celebrated 61 winners of the Foundation's latest educational awards across local, Gulf, and international levels in Dubai on Wednesday. The annual awards, held at Rashid Hall in the Dubai World Trade Centre, honoured top-performing teachers, exceptional students, and education-focused researchers. In the local category, 42 individuals and institutions were recognised out of 195 participants, while 17 winners were selected from 98 contenders in the Gulf region. The ceremony also recognised 13 Arab student teams for their success in the Future Science Challenge. Among the international winners was a research paper from Australia, which received the award for applied research in nurturing talents of gifted students. Celebrating creativity, excellence In his keynote address, Sheikh Rashid bin Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Foundation, who honoured the winners, said: 'In each edition of the Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Awards, we celebrate creativity and excellence, honouring a select group of innovators who have worked hard and contributed to the advancement of education and science. This educational achievement is the result of sincere efforts and promising abilities that deserve recognition and honour.' He added: 'Supporting education and empowering leading educational practices remains at the core of our vision. The awards system complements our training and innovation programmes, reflecting our steadfast commitment to enhancing the quality of education and motivating excellence in light of contemporary educational and cultural challenges.' New awards, grant As part of new initiatives, Sheikh Rashid announced the launch of an award in partnership with the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organisation (ALECSO) to promote digital innovation in education. A second new award will recognise outstanding educators in the Gulf, developed in cooperation with the Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States. Additionally, a Dh1 million research grant in health was announced to support scientific research and preventive policy development. 'We congratulate all the winners and remind them that this honour is only the beginning of a path of sustainable excellence,' Sheikh Rashid said. 'Together, we carry the message of excellence, high morals, and creative minds.' Sheikh Rashid bin Hamdan Meets and Sends Off Hamdan Center for Giftedness and Innovation Team Ahead of FLL World Finals in Houston

The visit comes in celebration of the team's exceptional achievement, having advanced to the global competition after winning both the local and national robotics championships. The meeting took place today (12 April) at the Foundation's headquarters in Dubai, in the presence of Her Excellency Aisha Miran is the Director General of the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) and Dr. Khalifa Al Suwaidi, Executive Director of the Foundation. During the visit, Sheikh Rashid engaged with the students and the administrative and technical teams, reviewing their preparations and expressing deep pride in their success. He commended their dedication and praised their efforts in qualifying to represent the UAE at the international level, wishing them continued success and honorable results that reflect the scientific ambition and capabilities of the nation's youth. According to program organizers, 169 teams from across the Emirates participated in the national FLL competitions, which unfolded over two stages. Of these, 40 teams reached the final round to compete for the national championship. The competition assessed participants across four main areas, including robot programming and design, innovative engineering projects aligned with this year's theme—marine life and its preservation—and values of teamwork, collaboration, and creativity. Hamdan Bin Rashid Center for Giftedness and Innovation team delivered an outstanding performance, securing second place in the Champion's Award and first place in both the Robot Game and Robot Design categories at the local level. They went on to claim the Champion's Award nationally, along with second place in the Robot Game. Members of the student team expressed pride in their accomplishments and shared their enthusiasm for the upcoming global finals.
