PM Modi delivers 17 addresses in foreign parliaments, equals combined total of all Congress PMs
During his five-nation visit, PM Modi addressed parliaments of Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, and Namibia.
Congress Prime Ministers together - Manmohan Singh (7), Indira Gandhi (4), Jawaharlal Nehru (3), Rajiv Gandhi (2), and PV Narasimha Rao (1) - delivered 17 speeches in total.
Atal Bihari Vajpayee, during his tenure as PM, addressed the parliaments of other countries twice, while Morarji Desai had once addressed the parliament of another nation.
PM Modi addressed the Parliaments of Australia, Fiji, Bhutan and Nepal in 2014. He delivered remarks at the Parliament of Mauritius, Mongolia, Afghanistan, the UK and Sri Lanka in 2015. PM Modi addressed the joint session of the US Congress in 2016 and again in 2023.
He addressed the Parliament of Uganda in 2018. This was followed by the address to the Maldives Parliament in 2019. He addressed the Parliament of Guyana in 2024. This year, PM Modi addressed the Parliaments of Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago and Namibia.
In a post on X, the BJP stated that PM Modi has delivered 17 speeches to foreign Parliaments, matching the combined total of Congress PMs over several decades.

During his address to the Joint Session of the Namibian Parliament, PM Modi stated that the ties between India and Africa are based on respect, equality and mutual benefit. He stated that India seeks to cooperate with Africa and not to compete.
PM Modi noted that India's development partnership in Africa is worth more than 12 billion dollars. He expressed India's support for Africa's Agenda 2063 Industrialisation and readiness to expand cooperation in defence and security.
PM Modi said, "In 2018, I had laid out ten principles of our engagement with Africa. Today, I reaffirm India's full commitment to them. They are based on respect, equality, and mutual benefit. We seek not to compete, but to cooperate. Our goal is to build together. Not to take, but to grow together. Our development partnership in Africa is worth over 12 billion dollars. But its real value is in shared growth and shared purpose. We continue to build local skills, create local jobs, and support local innovation."
"We believe that Africa must not be just a source of raw materials. Africa must lead in value creation and sustainable growth. That is why we fully support Africa's Agenda 2063 for industrialisation. We are ready to expand our cooperation in Defence and Security. India values Africa's role in world affairs. We championed Africa's voice during our G20 presidency. And we proudly welcomed the African Union as a permanent member of the G20," he added.
PM Modi recalled how India supported Africa during the COVID-19 pandemic, providing vaccines and medicines. He mentioned that India's "Aarogya Maitri" initiative supports Africa with hospitals, equipment, medicines and training.
PM Modi concluded his five-nation visit and departed for New Delhi on Wednesday, marking the end of a significant diplomatic journey that took him to Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, Brazil, and finally Namibia. (

"If he is elected vice-president, he will play a crucial role in getting 42% reservations for OBCs approved. He knows the survey in depth and has advised the state govt on ensuring justice for backward classes. He will be the strongest voice of OBCs in Parliament," he asserted. To questions on his role in finalising the candidature, Revanth said: "Justice Reddy is INDIA bloc's choice. He gave a presentation on caste survey analysis to MPs in Delhi, and they recognised his worth as a constitutional expert." Cong alleges 16 lakh voters added in 2 months before 2023 polls
Bhopal: The Congress on Tuesday continued its attack on the ruling BJP and the EC, alleging irregularities in the voter rolls of 27 constituencies in the 2023 assembly elections in the state. LOP Umang Singhar alleged bungling of 16 lakh votes in the assembly seats of Sevra, Gwalior (South), Surkhi, Mungaoli, Chhattarpur, Gunnour, Theothar, Chitrakoot, Maugunj, Karera, Teothar, Gurh, Dhauhani, Shahpura, Lanji, Shajapur, Haatpipaliya, Mandhata, Barwah, Alirajpur, Petlawad, Dharampuri, Depalpur, Indore – 5, Sailana, and Jawad. Addressing a press conference, Singhar claimed Congress candidates lost these seats by narrow margins while voter growth in these constituencies far exceeded the margin of defeat. "In seven months, between Jan 5, 2023, to Aug 2, 2023, the voter rolls in the state increased by 4.64 lakh voters. But between Aug 2, 2023, to Oct 4, the electoral rolls increased by 16.05 lakh votes, which means nearly 26,000 voters were added every day," Singhar said. "Did the EC inform the political parties about this huge and sudden increase in voters?" the LOP asked. Singhar claimed that a letter from the ECI dated June 9, 2023, directed the chief electoral officers (CEOs) of all states going for assembly elections that year, including Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Rajasthan, and Telangana, not to publish or share additions/deletions/amendments to the voter list made between January 1 to June 30, 2023, on their websites. The LOP argued that after Lok Sabha LOP Rahul Gandhi exposed SIR (Special Intensive Revision) of electoral rolls in Bihar and the misappropriation of votes in Karnataka during the last Parliamentary elections, the state Congress started probing the electoral rolls in the state. "The BJP govt in Madhya Pradesh was formed with a fake mandate and the EC has a specific role in this," Singhar said. "The EC claims it maintains transparency and provides electoral rolls to the political parties. But it is these voter lists that are bungled. Which is the voter list they provide to the party, and which is the one that is not given? Votes are increased or decreased. This is what happened in Madhya Pradesh," he claimed. The Congress maintained that BJP candidates won these 27 seats with slim margins, ranging from 28 votes in Shajapur where Congress' Hukum Singh Karada was defeated by BJP's Arun Bhimawad. The BJP candidate polled 98,184 in his favour while Hukum Singh Karada secured 98,034 votes. Between August 2, 2023, to October 4, 2023, the number of voters increased by 6,134. Another seat is Dharampuri where Congress candidate Panchilal Medha was defeated by BJP's Kalu Singh Thakur by a margin of 356 votes. Between Aug and Oct 2023, an addition of 7,649 voters was made.
