Cristopher Sánchez and Kyle Schwarber lead the Phillies past the Tigers 2-0
Philadelphia took two of three in the weekend series to move back into first place in the NL East, a half-game better than the New York Mets.
Sánchez (10-3) surrendered five hits, struck out six and walked one. He allowed only one baserunner to reach third.
Jhoan Duran handled the ninth for his second save with the Phillies and No. 18 overall. The hard-throwing closer, who was acquired in a trade with Minnesota on Wednesday, fanned Riley Greene with a 102.5 mph fastball for the final out.
Schwarber made it 2-0 when he connected against Tyler Holton with two down in the eighth, hitting a 435-foot drive to center.
Schwarber is tied with Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani for the NL lead in home runs. It was Schwarber's 15th homer this season off a lefty, which leads all of baseball and matches a career high for the slugger.
Detroit wasted a sharp performance by Charlie Morton (7-9), who pitched six innings of one-run ball. The veteran right-hander was acquired in a trade with Baltimore on Thursday.

Dan Orlovsky tears into Commanders as Terry McLaurin contract saga boils over
Dan Orlovsky has a bone to pick with the Washington Commanders as the Terry McLaurin contract saga drags on. During an appearance Monday on 'First Take,' the former NFL quarterback called out the Commanders for letting the situation with their star receiver reach a breaking point with Thursday's shock trade request, noting McLaurin is at the core of a roster that made a surprise run to last season's NFC Championship. 'Respectfully, Washington, you were a dumpster fire for years. You were a laughingstock.' Orlovsky said, as covered by Sports Illustrated. 'The only thing good about your organization was that young man. Every year, he did it. Year after year after year, for like five or six years, with disaster all around you.' Advertisement 4 Commanders receiver Terry McLaurin. AP A third-round pick out of Ohio State in 2019, McLaurin has played in Washington his entire career and has experienced the highs and lows associated with the franchise over the past six seasons. Advertisement 4 Dan Orlovsky rips the Commanders for not signing McLaurin. @firstTake/X In his first season under new head coach Dan Quinn and first-year GM Adam Peters, McLaurin tallied 82 receptions for 1,096 and a career-high in touchdowns (13) in 17 regular-season games. The Commanders, guided by rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, upset the heavily favored Lions in the divisional round of the playoffs before falling short to the Eagles in January's NFC title game. McLaurin, entering the final year of a three-year, $68.36 million deal, initially held out of training camp amid the ongoing dispute. Corey Sipkin for the NY POST Although he showed up in late July, arriving with an ankle injury, McLaurin requested a trade shortly after. Orlovsky implored Washington brass to recognize they 'need' McLaurin in hopes of building off of last year's success. 'If you don't have him, you erase everything that you did last year. Everything that you did. And I'm being respectful to Dan Quinn and Adam Peters and what they did last year. You need him. Give me receivers that impact winning as much or if not more than Terry McLaurin. … I'll give you [Bengals wideout] Ja'Marr [Chase]. I'd give you [Vikings receiver] Justin [Jefferson.] [Lions wideout] Amon-Ra St. Brown. He impacts winning. … What are we doing in Washington?' the ESPN personality said Monday. Advertisement 4 Terry McLaurin has played in Washington his entire NFL career. AP McLaurin, 29, is said to be eyeing a deal similar to the five-year, $150 million contract extension DK Metcalf signed with the Steelers earlier this year. Washington opens its season at home against the Giants on Sept. 7. It remains to be seen if the Commanders conclude the McLaurin saga by then.

Injuries to key players dampen excitement for WNBA's inaugural Rivals Week
NEW YORK (AP) — The WNBA hoped to create some buzz with its inaugural Rivals Week, which is slated to begin on Saturday. Unfortunately, injuries to key players like Napheesa Collier, Breanna Stewart, Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese has dampened some of the excitement. The week was set to tip-off with a primetime matchup between Clark's Fever and Reese's Sky on Saturday night. Clark is definitely out while still recovering from a groin strain that's sidelined her already for a few weeks. Reese has missed four of the past five games with a back injury. Collier and Stewart were set for a second meeting between Minnesota and New York on Sunday, but neither will play in the game. Collier is sidelined with a sprained right ankle and Stewart has a bone bruise in her right knee. The two teams played an epic WNBA Finals last season, although both sides have downplayed it being a rivalry just yet. 'It's a rivalry because of what happened in the Finals last year and I think it's good that it has people talking,' Liberty coach Sandy Brondello said. 'We have passionate fans. We have people talking about our league and that's a good thing.' Right now only four games separate second-place New York (18-10) from eighth place Golden State (14-14) with a month left in the season. 'The timing of that week is critical, because in August you start to really make that playoff push,' WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert said back when the Rivals Week was announced. 'So it would be great to have those matchups during that period to drive that playoff push into September and crown a champion in October.' Power poll rankings Minnesota remained the No. 1 team in the poll with Atlanta and New York behind the Lynx. Riding a five-game winning streak, Indiana moved up to fourth. Phoenix and Seattle followed the Fever. Las Vegas, Los Angeles and Golden State were the next three. Washington, Dallas, Connecticut and Chicago rounded out the poll. It's the first time since Week 6 that the Sun aren't at the bottom of the poll. Ratings boon Las Vegas' blowout loss to Minnesota on Saturday drew an average viewership of 1.6 million fans, peaking at 2 million. As a whole, games on ABC are up 20% from the regular season last year on the network. Player of the week Collier of Minnesota was the AP player of the week after averaging 24 points, six rebounds and 3.5 assists to help the Lynx win both their games last week. Other players receiving votes included Allisha Gray of Atlanta, Natasha Howard of Indiana and Sabrina Ionescu of New York. Game of the week Minnesota at New York, Sunday. With Stewart and Collier both missing this game a little of the luster has come out of it. Still, it's a WNBA Finals rematch and there's definitely a little extra on this game.
