Pat Surtain is officially an ambassador of the Jordan brand.
Denver Broncos coach Sean Payton is the only coach in the NFL with an endorsement deal with Michael Jordan, and after Surtain won the Defensive Player of the Year award last season, Payton told his star cornerback it was time to get PS2 a Jordan deal of his own.
Surtain officially joined the brand last month, just in time to rock some amazing cleats at training camp:
'I'm pretty excited," Surtain said Tuesday when asked about becoming a Jordan athlete. "It was a cool experience meeting 'M.J.' himself. It was pretty dope. I feel like that whole brand, what they have in order, is a very close group and the brand [has] a family-first aspect. I'm glad to be a part of the Jordan brand. I'm looking forward to it.'
The cornerback still hasn't quite caught up to his coach's level yet.
'We're going to be competing on the field, even though I know he has the exclusive [Eddie] Jones [sneakers] already," Surtain quipped. "I still have some catching up to do.'

2025 Hall of Fame Game announcers: Who's calling Chargers-Lions on NBC?

HEY FOOTBALL IS BACK!! YAYY! Well... sort of. It's the first NFL preseason game of 2025, which is known as the Hall of Fame Game. It's the one played on the field at Canton, Ohio, and this one is between the Detroit Lions and the Los Angeles Chargers. We've given you five players to watch and some bets you can make (if you must). But if you're here, you might be wondering: Who's calling this NFL preseason game on Thursday on NBC and Peacock? Here's the answer: Mike Tirico will be on play-by-play, Cris Collinsworth will be the analyst, Melissa Stark will be reporting from the sidelines, and Terry McAulay will be rules analyst. Here's more info: Is that Brent Musburger in the booth? Yes! You'll hear from the Pete Rozelle Radio Television Award recipient, which is nice. Who's in the 2025 Pro Football Hall of Fame class?

Injury won't slow down Ladd McConkey

Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Ladd McConkey is entering his second season in the NFL. McConkey is coming off a record-setting rookie season, but could have an even better year in 2025. McConkey, a 2024 second-round pick from the Georgia Bulldogs, has had extra time to build chemistry with Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert. The talented wide receiver should have an even better understanding of Los Angeles' offense in Year 2. It won't be easy following up McConkey's record-setting rookie season. Last year, McConkey set the Chargers' all-time leading rookie receiver in receptions (82) and receiving yards (1,149). McConkey's outstanding regular season helped Los Angeles advance to the playoffs, where he set the NFL postseason rookie record for receiving yardage in a game with 197 yards in the Chargers' defeat to the Houston Texans. McConkey along with the rest of Los Angeles' starters are not expected to play in the Chargers' preseason opener against the Detroit Lions on Thursday, July 31. McConkey has been "working through something minor" according to Chargers' head coach Jim Harbaugh. The second-year pass catcher missed practice on Tuesday ahead of the Hall of Fame Game. ESPN NFL expert Mina Kimes is quite high on McConkey this year. "I think he has the ceiling of being a top 10 receiver in the NFL," Kimes said. "He was a guy I actually feel like we didn't give enough credit during the season for how good he was." Statistically, McConkey was already a top 10 receiver in yardage as a rookie. However, he's not typically viewed as a top-10 receiver in the NFL. "I think he is a true three-level threat," Kimes added. "He's a true wide receiver one in my opinion, the offense can flow through him. The sky is the limit for Ladd McConkey." McConkey can beat single man coverage with ease, but for now the Chargers just want to see him fully healthy ahead of their 2025 season. McConkey and Los Angeles have their regular season opener on Friday, Sept. 5 against the Kansas City Chiefs in Brazil. Follow UGAWire on Instagram or Threads!

According to junior safety, Texas A&M's secondary is 'speaking the same language'

Texas A&M safety Marcus Ratcliffe talks confidence level in Year 2 of system:'I personally, and I know some of my teammates, a lot of them, feel so much more confident, feel like we can play faster, communicate with each other better and we're all speaking the same language.' Texas A&M's 2025 secondary will feature several new veterans from the transfer portal, while the safety rotation will be led by Dalton Brooks and Marcus Ratcliffe, who are slated to make a significant jump due to their combined athleticism, size, and defensive instincts. However, missed tackles and broken plays during the latter half of the 2024 season resulted in head coach Mike Elko taking over as the defensive play caller, combined with the hiring of new defensive assistant Lyle Hemphill. This offseason, Ratcliffe has put in the work in the weight room, working with S&C coach Tommy Moffitt to add more size and strength to his athletic profile. On Wednesday, just minutes after Texas A&M's first preseason practice, Ratcliffe spoke to the media, stating that his squat is now in the upper 400s (pounds). At the same time, his bench press personal record has also improved. However, it was Ratcliffe's confidence in the defense and the team as a whole that stood out the most. 'I personally, and I know some of my teammates, a lot of them, feel so much more confident, feel like we can play faster, communicate with each other better and we're all speaking the same language.' Allowing big plays in the passing game was an issue that should be fixed with better communication on the field, while Elko's background as one of the better secondary coaches should tighten things up. At cornerback and safety, the desirable traits are not an issue compared to years past, so it is undoubtedly a positive step forward that the secondary is now "speaking the same language" to avoid the similar problems we saw last season.
