Hulu Will Go Global and Fully Merge With Disney Plus

CNET2 days ago
More than a year after launching its "Hulu on Disney Plus experience" in the US, Disney announced plans to integrate Hulu into the Disney Plus streaming service. Additionally, Hulu will become available internationally once the merge happens next year, the company shared with its third-quarter earnings report on Wednesday.
The Hulu tile was added to Disney Plus in March 2024, allowing subscribers who have both services to watch Hulu content within the Disney Plus app. The Walt Disney Co. CEO Bob Iger said today that this fall, the Hulu tile will replace the Star tile on the service for international customers. He added that the new offering will give customers more choice and convenience.
"Over the coming months, we will be implementing improvements within the Disney Plus app, including exciting new features and a more personalized homepage, all of which will culminate with the unified Disney Plus and Hulu streaming app experience that will be available to consumers next year," said Iger.
Disney Plus viewers can watch titles from brands like Disney and Marvel, a suite of live channels that includes ABC News and The Simpsons, and if they're subscribed to Hulu and/or ESPN, a selection of content from both services. According to an executive summary shared ahead of Wednesday's earnings call, the merged version of the streaming app will offer "family programming, news, and industry-leading live sports content."
Though Iger did not explicitly state whether Hulu will be phased out completely, he mentioned that the merge will result in "efficiencies when these are together. It will be on one tech stack, as for instance, one tech platform." He hinted that the Hulu and Disney combo may result in new -- or more -- bundles for customers.
"I imagine down the road, it may give us some price elasticity as well that we haven't had before," said Iger. "And it also provides us with a tremendous bundling experience because when you have the one app that has a significant amount of all of the Disney and the other Disney branded programming with the general entertainment programming bundled, for instance, with the ESPN direct-to-consumer app."
The media giant's new standalone sports streaming service -- dubbed ESPN -- will replace ESPN Plus and launch on Aug. 21 (rather than the fall) and be included in current Disney Bundle offerings with pricing that starts at $36 a month to watch with ads. Once the Hulu and Disney Plus merge happens next year, customers may see new streaming packages from the company.

Dexterra Group Inc (HZNOF) Q2 2025 Earnings Call Highlights: Strategic Investments and ...

Release Date: August 06, 2025 For the complete transcript of the earnings call, please refer to the full earnings call transcript. Positive Points Dexterra Group Inc (HZNOF) announced two strategic investments, including a 40% interest in Pleasant Valley Corporation, enhancing their US facility management capabilities. The company increased its annual dividend to $0.40 per share, reflecting confidence in its business strength and cash flow generation. Dexterra Group Inc (HZNOF) reported strong Q2 2025 financial results with over $30 million in adjusted EBITDA, driven by high camp occupancy and improved margins. The acquisition of Right Choice Camps and Catering adds 2,000 beds to their fleet, supporting growth in workforce accommodations. Dexterra Group Inc (HZNOF) successfully negotiated an amendment to their credit facility, increasing the limit to $425 million, providing additional financial flexibility. Negative Points Revenue from asset-based services decreased by 18% in Q2 2025 compared to the previous year, primarily due to lower camp mobilization and installation projects. The company's net debt increased to $93 million as of June 30, 2025, up from $81.5 million in Q1 2025, due to investments in working capital. Free cash flow for Q2 2025 was a small deficit, similar to the same period in 2024, with expectations to generate the majority of free cash flow in the latter half of the year. The Right Choice acquisition's fleet is currently underutilized at about 50% occupancy, indicating potential inefficiencies. Dexterra Group Inc (HZNOF) faces potential risks from trade tariffs and economic conditions, although they have been resilient so far. Q & A Highlights Warning! GuruFocus has detected 6 Warning Sign with HZNOF. Q: Can you explain the rationale behind the Right Choice acquisition, given your previous cautious approach to adding assets? A: Mark Becker, CEO: We've had high utilization on our camp equipment, and with strong growth pipelines across Canada, we need more equipment to capture opportunities. Right Choice is a strong margin business that complements our operations, allowing us to redeploy equipment and expand both asset-based and support services. Q: What is the revenue split between asset-based services (ABS) and support services for Right Choice? A: Denise Chanu, CFO: Of the $75 million top line, about 20% is ABS, with the balance being support services. This mirrors our current open camp profile and we acquired it at a great multiple. Q: Can you provide insights into the support services sales pipeline, especially in the U.S.? A: Mark Becker, CEO: The pipeline is strong across the business, with significant activity in the U.S. We are targeting mid-single-digit growth annually for support services, with higher growth rates in the U.S., closer to 10%, due to our strategic investments like PVC. Q: How do you plan to optimize the utilization of Right Choice's underutilized assets? A: Mark Becker, CEO: Right Choice's high-quality, mobile equipment can be redeployed across Canada and potentially in the U.S. We aim to optimize operations between our facilities and theirs, leveraging our strong pipeline of opportunities. Q: What are the priorities for the new President of Dexterra USA? A: Mark Becker, CEO: David Lambert will focus on understanding our U.S. operations, integrating PVC's services, and establishing a U.S.-based organization. He will also work on leveraging synergies and developing a growth plan for our U.S. platform. For the complete transcript of the earnings call, please refer to the full earnings call transcript. New gold tariffs are in effect. Will Costco gold bars be affected?

Buying gold bars from Costco is just about the easiest way to get your hands on the precious metal — if you're lucky enough to find them in stock. Gold (GC=F) has been surging all year, with gold futures reaching yet another high Friday. However, the surprising announcement of additional tariffs on gold bars by US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has stymied would-be gold buyers. Here's the latest. Deciphering the new 39% tariff on gold Scott Travers, editor in chief of COINage magazine, said that the new tariff didn't appear to apply to consumer gold buyers — however, he added that published guidelines are "ambiguous." He noted that the 39% tariff ruling specifically targets 1-kilogram and 100-ounce gold bars. "It doesn't look like there is any tariff on 1-ounce gold bars. And they're the predominant investment vehicle and traded asset in gold globally — 1-ounce gold bars," Travers told Yahoo Finance. But when a gold refiner in Switzerland asked about it, CBP clarified that 1-kilogram and 100-ounce gold bars are subject to the levies, Bloomberg reported. "I'm doing research on this and, you know, a lot of it looks ambiguous. And when you have ambiguity, you have speculation," Travers added. What about Costco gold bars? Costco (COST) sells Swiss-made, 1-ounce gold bullion bars to members via its website. "The 1-ounce gold bars, which are used in the retail and most small investment transactions, don't seem to be mentioned here in the US Customs and Border Protection ruling," Travers said. A spokesperson with Costco media relations told Yahoo Finance that they "don't comment on news reports." Gold prices soared on the tariff news, hitting an intraday high of $4,490 per ounce at one point Friday. So, what should prospective gold buyers do? "Nothing," Travers said. "They shouldn't be buying on this speculative trend, and they shouldn't be selling their gold holdings based on assuming that other people are ignorant and are buying their gold with the belief that the 1-ounce bars are subject to the tariff." Full disclosure: Travers admits he's not a fan of gold as an investment — he sees it more as a manner of "insurance" and a currency. "In the event of collapse of fiat currencies, and God forbid, an attack on all of humanity, gold is the ultimate insurance policy, and you can use it to trade, you can use it to buy things with in an emergency," he said. But whether for an investment or otherwise, his advice remains: "Until this is clarified, I don't think anyone should do anything." Pason Systems Inc (PSYTF) Q2 2025 Earnings Call Highlights: Navigating Industry Challenges with ...

Release Date: August 07, 2025 For the complete transcript of the earnings call, please refer to the full earnings call transcript. Positive Points Pason Systems Inc (PSYTF) reported a 1% increase in consolidated revenue to $96.4 million in Q2 2025, despite challenging industry conditions. The company maintained a strong balance sheet with $69.3 million in total cash and no interest-bearing debt. Revenue from the completion segment grew 12% year over year, outperforming a 25% decrease in industry activity. The solar and energy storage segment saw a 58% increase in revenue year over year, driven by increased control system project deliveries. Pason Systems Inc (PSYTF) returned $20.2 million to shareholders in Q2 2025 through dividends and share repurchases. Negative Points Adjusted EBITDA decreased by 5% from the previous year, with a margin decline to 32.7% due to higher revenue contributions from lower-margin segments. North American drilling segment revenue fell by 2% year over year, reflecting a 5% decrease in industry drilling activity. The international drilling segment faced an 11% revenue decline due to a shift in customer focus in Argentina from conventional to unconventional drilling. Free cash flow decreased to $5.3 million in Q2 2025 from $8 million in the same period of 2024, reflecting challenging industry conditions. The company anticipates a reduction in its 2025 capital program, lowering expected capital expenditures from $65 million to between $55 million and $60 million. Q & A Highlights Warning! GuruFocus has detected 1 Warning Sign with PSYTF. Q: Can you discuss the trajectory of your job count in the completions segment, given the decline in the US industry frac count? A: John Faber, President and CEO: Our job count growth has been driven by adding new customers, which offsets the slowdown from existing customers. We expect gas activity to help bolster job count as it comes back, aiding growth from existing customers. Q: How do you expect your job count to trend over the second half of the year compared to industry markers? A: John Faber, President and CEO: While we anticipate continuing to outpace industry growth, significant outperformance becomes more challenging over time. It will depend on how much existing customers increase their activity and the addition of new customers. Q: Can you elaborate on the shift from conventional to unconventional drilling in Argentina and its impact on Pason? A: John Faber, President and CEO: The shift involves a large customer selling conventional assets, which have lower revenue opportunities. We expect to maintain a strong position in unconventional drilling, which offers higher value products and better margins. Q: What is your current job capacity in the IWS segment, and how do you view market saturation for IWS technology? A: John Faber, President and CEO: It's challenging to estimate job capacity due to varying equipment needs. We are comfortable with our capital program for 2025, which supports outpacing industry growth. There's still significant opportunity for automation in the completion space. Q: How do you view the market demand and potential saturation for the mud analyzer product? A: John Faber, President and CEO: Challenges for scaling the mud analyzer include technical issues and helping customers understand data usage. We are investing in operational support to address these challenges and drive adoption. For the complete transcript of the earnings call, please refer to the full earnings call transcript.
