The Holiday director totally 'surprised' by news of the reboot

Metro12 hours ago
Nancy Meyers says she was left 'surprised' after hearing that her hit 2006 rom-com The Holiday was set to be rebooted.
Starring Jude Law, Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, and Jack Black, the festive favourite follows Iris Simpkins (Winslet) and Amanda Woods (Diaz), who swap homes for the holidays to escape their own relationship issues.
But they get more than they bargain for when they both meet and fall in love with local men, with Iris meeting Miles (Black), a colleague of Amanda's ex Ethan (Edward Burns), and Amanda getting to know Iris' brother Graham (Law).
The Holiday proved a huge box office success, grossing $205.8million (£155m) worldwide against a budget of $85m (£63.9m), and gained a cult following over the decades despite lukewarm reviews from critics
On Friday, Deadline reported that the iconic film is set to be rebooted for TV by producers at Apple TV+, but it seems Meyers will not be involved in the project.
Taking to her Instagram Stories, she shared her reaction: 'News to me. Imagine my surprise when I opened Instagram and this was the first post I saw.'
The publication previously reported that the TV adaptation will follow an entirely new selection of characters while keeping the same premise.
Nancy and leading man Jude seemed to be teasing news about a possible sequel to The Holiday last year when they recreated one of the film's most iconic scenes.
Sherlock Holmes actor Jude reunited with Nancy for a celebratory lunch after receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Filming Jude at the table, The Parent Trap director said: 'Look who I'm having lunch with today – Jude Law! Congratulations on your so well-deserved star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame, that's amazing.
'I don't think I've seen you since we wrapped The Holiday, speaking of which, I've seen you interviewed a lot and they keep asking you if there's going to be a sequel – what do you think?'
The actor, who looked suave in a grey suit and white shirt, simply asked Nancy to give him a second.

He turned and placed his napkin and glasses on his head, referencing The Holiday's hilarious Mr Napkin Head scene.
Nancy replied, 'Is that a yes, Jude?' to which he simply moved his head around chaotically.
Speaking to the Hollywood Gold podcast last year, Meyers said she never intended for The Holiday to be a Christmas movie. More Trending
'I know it's called The Holiday because they're taking a holiday, but it could have been called that if it was in the summer,' she began
The director said that she was 'a little shocked at how much Christmas was in it' after rewatching the film.
She explained: 'I never thought it would be, you know, a movie that you watched during the holidays…. Didn't think of it that way. I just really wanted to tell the story about these people.
'I set it at Christmas because that can be lonely. As I noted to myself last night while I was rewatching, they're all damaged.'
