‘They go the bench' – Jose Mourinho gives hilarious reply after being quizzed on why he keeps changing Fenerbahce team

The Sun10-05-2025

JOSE MOURINHO gave a typical 'Special One' response to a question about his constant changing of his Fenerbahce side.
The Portuguese gaffer has been chopping and changing his starting XI in recent weeks in a desperate bid to chip away at Galatasaray 's five-point lead at the top of the Turkish top-flight.

Fenerbahce 's lack of a consistent starting XI was put to the former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss after their 4-1 win over Istanbul Basaksehir on Friday night.
And the 62-year-old gave a hilarious response to the question, in which he channelled his inner mime to answer.
He said: "I have 25 coins, I throw the coins in the air. The ones that stay on the table are the ones that I play.
"The ones that go on the floor, they go on the bench. I do it just like this.
"During the week, I'm having fun. I go to nightclubs every day in Istanbul, everywhere.
"And then when it's time to choose the team, I throw coins with the players' faces (on them).
"'The 11 that stay on the table are the 11 that play… it's simple.'
Mourinho's coin analogy isn't the first time he's used humour in his post-match press conferences this season.

After their Europa League defeat to Rangers, he pretended to FALL ASLEEP as a journalist ranted in Turkish.
While scratching his head, he said: "Oh, this is too much for my head. I'm tired, man.
"90 minutes not to listen to all of this, I'm too tired for that."
Mourinho has found himself in the headlines several times this season.
He was slapped with a three-match ban last month for during the Istanbul derby.
And in February, he filed a lawsuit against Fenerbahce's bitter rivals after they accused him of making racist statements.

Portugal vs Spain TV channel and live stream: How to watch Nations League final

Arch-rivals Portugal take on Spain tonight in the final of the UEFA Nations League. The eagerly awaited showdown sees one of the greatest of all-time Cristiano Ronaldo up against the heir to Lionel Messi's crown, Lamine Yamal. Ronaldo's Portugal won the inaugural Nations League in 2019 and the Manchester United legend scored the winner in the semi-final comeback victory against Germany. Spain are looking to secure back-to-back titles to go alongside their Euro 2024 victory and booked their place in the final by beating France in a 5-4 thriller. While only UEFA's secondary competition, it gives us a good indication of who the favourites will be for next summer's World Cup and the final promises to be an action-packed affair. Here's everything you need to know about the 2025 Nations League final, including how to watch on a TV channel, team news and match odds: The 2025 Nations League final is being held at the Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany, which was also the venue for PSG's Champions League final victory last month. The match will kick-off tonight at 8pm UK time. In the UK, ITV1 will be broadcasting the final with their coverage beginning at 7.30pm. You can also stream the action live on ITVX. If the scores are level after 90 minutes, the final will go to extra-time. If no one can find a winner after the additional 30 minutes, a penalty shootout will decide the Nations League champions. One change Portugal could make from the semi-final win would be to bring Vitinha, who excelled in the Champions League final, back into midfield alongside Man Utd captain Bruno Fernandes. More Trending That would push Manchester City's Bernardo Silva into the forward line alongside Ronaldo and Chelsea winger Pedro Neto. Spain boss Luis de la Fuente suggested he would make no changes to his side for the final despite nearly blowing a 4-0 lead against France. Real Madrid set to HIJACK Arsenal's Martin Zubimendi transfer with star ‘attracted' to idea of joining La Liga giants

Arsenal were thought to be leading the race for Zubimendi's signature with reports claiming that a deal was on the brink of completion. Arsenal are thought to have agreed to pay Zubimendi's £51m release clause to pry him away from Real Sociedad. However, according to Spanish outlet AS, Real Madrid are planning a "final attack" to try and sign him instead, with new boss Xabi Alonso keen on a new central midfielder. It's claimed that Zubimendi is "attracted" to the idea of playing for Madrid, while he is also said to prefer staying in Spain next year. Liverpool looked set to sign Zubimendi themselves last summer, but after long talks and drawn out negotiations he ultimately snubbed the Reds to stay with Sociedad. Zubimendi is reportedly keen on the idea of playing under Alonso, who he worked with at Real Sociedad B. Arsenal need reinforcements in midfield with Jorginho's confirmed exit and Thomas Partey yet to sign a contract extension with the club and his current deal expiring this month. 3 Join SUN CLUB for the Arsenal Files every Friday plus in-depth coverage and exclusives from The Emirates Zubimendi didn't rule out a move elsewhere when asked about his future while on international duty with Spain. He said: "Of course there are options, but it's true that it looks like it's going to be a different, long summer, and I don't know how it's going to end. David Raya reveals Arsenal career changed overnight following two-hour meeting "Right now, thinking about it isn't my priority. I'm here with the national team, which is already quite demanding, and if I have to say something, then I will." Asked about playing under Alonso and the influence he has had on him, Zubimendi replied: "I've always said that he was my idol and that for me it was a stroke of luck that he was able to coach me in the reserve team in a very important year. "[But] I don't like to talk about those hypotheses, I like to talk about the present. "I think it would be disrespectful to answer a question [about a Madrid move] while I'm in the national team, and facing such an important competition." Zubimendi scored two goals and registered one assist in 36 La Liga appearances for Sociedad this season. Meanwhile Arsenal look set to complete the £5m signing of Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea, with the goalkeeper arriving to provide backup for David Raya. A striker also remains a top priority for Arteta and his team, with RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko and Sporting Lisbon's Viktor Gyokeres admired by the Gunners hierarchy.

Man Utd and Chelsea dealt transfer blow after missing out on £32m star

Jobe Bellingham has snubbed interest from Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal to sign for Borussia Dortmund instead. The younger brother of Real Madrid and England superstar Jude Bellingham had attracted a lot of transfer attention thanks to his impressive performances for Sunderland. In 2024/25, he was named Championship Young Player of the Season as he helped the Black Cats get promoted to the Premier League via the play-offs. Sunderland were hopeful of keeping their best talents as they return to the top-flight for the first time in eight years, but it soon became clear that Jobe's future lay away from the Stadium of Light. Crystal Palace had long been linked with the 19-year-old, while Chelsea, Man Utd and Arsenal joined the race over the turn of the year, with the Blues ready to make a 'big money' move for him. But it was also reported that the midfielder was more inclined to follow his brother's example and move abroad, and that is exactly what he has done. It is said Dortmund have agreed a €33million (£27.8m) deal with Sunderland for Jobe, with €5m (£4.2m) in add-ons and a 15 per cent sell-on clause. It makes the teenager Sunderland's most expensive sale and, if the add-ons are met, Dortmund's most expensive signing, surpassing the £29.5m paid for Ousmane Dembele in 2016. More Trending The Bundesliga giants will be hoping Jobe can have the same impact as Jude after the elder Bellingham enjoyed a highly-successful stint with the club from 2020 to 2023. He subsequently moved to Real Madrid for around £113m and has established himself as one of the best footballers in the world. Jobe was due to feature at the U21 Euros this summer for England but his participation is now in doubt as Dortmund are taking part in the revamped Club World Cup alongside Real, Chelsea and Manchester City. Man Utd may regret missing out on such a promising young talent, with ex-Sunderland defender Michael Gray previously tipping the teenager to make an immediate impact at Old Trafford. 'He's an outstanding talent that's still probably got a bit to learn,' he told Betfred in March. 'One thing I would look at is that Amad Diallo went to Sunderland on loan and he was outstanding. He then goes back to Manchester United and he's probably been their best player this season. 'So when I take all that into consideration, then absolutely Jobe Bellingham could go to Manchester United. 'When you look at what his brother's achieved in a short period of time, I'm not saying that Jobe's going to reach those levels, but he's got all the ability in the world to be nearly as good as his brother.'
