AAIB Probe Unbiased: Naidu
Responding to questions in the Rajya Sabha, Naidu assured the members that AAIB's ongoing probe into the air crash was 'transparent, rule-based and unbiased,' and followed international protocols. He added that the final AAIB report on the AI171 accident will include a detailed causal analysis, identify contributing factors, and recommend safety measures.

'Until that report is out, we should not draw conclusions. We want to stand with the truth. Whatever the report says, we will act on it,' the minister said.
International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) rules stipulate that the final report should be published within a year of an air crash.
He noted that until now, India had been dependent on overseas labs to decode damaged cockpit voice recorders (CVRs) and flight data recorders (FDRs). 'However, for the first time, India took the initiative to decode the black box domestically, even if it appeared damaged externally. This decoding was successfully completed within the country,' he said.
On June 12, an Air India 787-8 Dreamliner jet crashed shortly after taking off from the Ahmedabad airport on a scheduled flight to London Gatwick. The aircraft lost power on both engines and descended into a residential area, severely affecting the BJ Medical College hostel. Of the 242 people on board, all but one passenger survived. An additional 19 people on the ground were killed.
A preliminary report released on July 12 by AAIB found that the crash was caused by dual engine failure due to disengagement of fuel control switches, which regulate the flow of fuel to the engines. The reasons behind the movement of switches from the 'Run' to 'Cutoff' mode is currently under investigation.
Industry executives and experts said AAIB's initial report has raised more questions than it answers. While the report confirmed that both engine fuel control switches were moved to the cutoff position shortly after take-off, it offered no explanation for why or how that occurred.
Also, insufficient timeline, analysis, or human factor assessment left key details unclear, including who moved the switches, whether it was intentional, accidental, or due to a system failure, said experts, adding that the report's limited scope is triggering speculation and causing uncertainty around one of India's worst aviation disasters.
Naidu, the AAIB, and also the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) of the US have previously criticised the Western media after a series of international reports speculated on the causes of the AI171 crash before the probe was completed. These reports included interpretations of cockpit voice recordings and suggested possible errors or intent, despite the AAIB having only released a preliminary factual report, not a causal analysis.
Naidu said a high-level committee led by the home secretary was formed immediately after the crash. The committee has a three-month timeline to recommend improvements in routine safety inspections and pilot training standards, drawing on global best practices.
Responding to another question, Naidu informed that 'during the last six months, no adverse trend has been reported in reliability reports of Air India in respect of crashed aircraft'.
During this period, a total of nine show cause notices were issued to Air India for five identified safety violations, he said, adding enforcement action has been taken in respect of one violation.
Separately, addressing the issue of vacancies in the civil aviation regulator, Naidu said the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is currently operating at about 55% of its sanctioned technical capacity. However, he explained that this was because many new posts have been created only recently. 'This year, we plan to recruit 190 more, with selection expected to conclude by end-October,' he said. 'Nonetheless, we're expediting the process and aiming to fill 90% of the vacancies soon.'
According to a Rajya Sabha document, reviewed by ET, between 2022 and 2024, 441 posts were created in the DGCA, including 426 technical posts.
In 2024, 84 operational posts were created in the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) as part of a restructuring. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) recently added 840 posts for Air Traffic Control Officers (ATCOs), another Rajya Sabha document showed.

Groups of Ministers from Andhra to be sent on study tours to developed countries
Groups of Ministers will be sent to the developed countries to study the development projects there with an aim to bringing innovative policies to Andhra Pradesh, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has informed the Cabinet. The Ministers, particularly the young ones, will be divided into groups for the purpose. After more than 40 meetings, the Singapore authorities have accepted to come and participate in the investor summit slated for November in Andhra Pradesh to explore opportunities. They are reluctant to take up the Seed Capital project, as agreed before 2019, but they will extend support to complete the project.' On reorganisation of districts, Mr. Naidu asked the Group of Ministers to finalise the changes and submit the report in a month. On the liquor scam, he told the Ministers that the government was committed to taking the issue to its logical conclusion. The Chief Minister said, from the next Cabinet meeting, one Minister must explain the progress and achievements of his portfolio. A senior Minister said, 'Presenting self-progress in the Cabinet is a good opportunity for the young Ministers. They will have an additional advantage in improving their performance. The Chief Minister and other Cabinet colleagues will suggest how to improve the performance and find solutions to problems.' The Chief Minister also suggested the Ministers to counter the misinformation being spread by some vested interests against the government. 'Despite visible development, implementing poll promises, and delivering good governance, some opposition camps have been spreading misinformation, which must be countered,' he said.

Give details on nixing nod to prosecute 4 netas: SC to TN
NEW DELHI: Supreme Court on Wednesday asked the Tamil Nadu govt to provide details of cases pertaining to four political personalities against whom sanction for prosecution in corruption cases granted by the competent authorities were withdrawn following a change of government in the state after elections. TN additional advocate general Amit Anand Tiwari termed the PIL filed by Chennai-based lawyer Karuppiah Gandhi in this connection as a "motivated petition", aimed at garnering political mileage, and asserted before a bench of Justices Surya Kant, Ujjal Bhuyan and N K Singh that the state has scrupulously adhered to the procedure established by law to deal with the cases. Appearing for the petitioner, senior advocate D S Naidu said the petition referred to 18 political personalities, who were or are ministers or MPs, against whom investigations were derailed, chargesheets were supplemented with assertions about their innocence to close the cases, or sanction for prosecution granted earlier were withdrawn. "Withdrawing sanction to prosecute is unheard of in criminal jurisprudence," he said. Referring to Tiwari's "politically motivated petition" argument, Justice Bhuyan told Naidu, "This is a malady not confined to Tamil Nadu alone. It is spread to the entire country. If you open a Pandora's box, it will come back to you one day". Tiwari said that investigations were carried out in the cases and taken to logical ends. The Madras high court was seized of some of the cases, he said. The bench told him, "Why don't you file a short affidavit giving details about the four cases where the previous sanction for prosecution was withdrawn allegedly after a change of political regime? We will confine the proceedings to these four cases, which appear to be serious". On the prayer of the petitioner to transfer trial in these cases against politicians to another state, the bench said it would create complications over appointment of public prosecutor (PP). Naidu said the state where the cases are transferred can be empowered to appoint the PP, to which the bench did not agree. Tamil Nadu, in its affidavit filed earlier, had said, "The criminal cases investigated by the Directorate of Vigilance and anti-corruption bureau are dealt with in accordance with law without extraneous pressure. In spite of the party in power, the investigation, trial and appeal proceedings are carried out as per the established law and procedure".

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday lauded Minister for Housing and Information & Public Relations Kolusu Parthasarathy for his pivotal role in bringing national recognition to Nuzvid through the achievements of the Parabola9 AI startup. The American-based AI company, which was established a year ago at the IIIT in Nuzvid with the support of Mr. Parthasarathy, bagged two prestigious national awards at a recent Hackathon — one under the Police Department category and another under Civil Supplies Department. The Chief Minister extended his congratulations after Mr. Parthasarathy informed him about the startup's accomplishment. Mr. Naidu praised the Minister for elevating the stature of Nuzvid to the national and international stage, and assured full support in transforming the constituency into a leader in Agriculture, Industry, and Information Technology sectors. 'The youth in Nuzvid, especially those trained in IT at the IIIT, hold immense potential,' the Chief Minister noted, adding that the government was committed to providing assistance to support their entrepreneurial ventures.
