Rayshawn Pleasant named All-American by Sporting News
Likely a reserve in the Auburn defensive backfield, Pleasant should see the bulk of his playing time this season as a return specialist. The West Monroe, Louisiana native excelled in the role while playing for his home state Green Wave, averaging nearly 39 yards per return across 13 kickoffs. He scored twice.
While the junior didn't return punts, we could see him take over the role as a Tiger, especially considering he's unlikely to play nearly as many defensive snaps as he did a year ago. With the uncertainty surrounding wide receiver Malcolm Simmons, and head coach Hugh Freeze's possible inclination to save him for offense once he gets back onto the field, it would make a lot of sense for Pleasant to take over punt returning as well.
The 6-foot, 200-pound defensive back gives Hugh Freeze's squad added depth to a special teams unit that has mostly struggled since Freeze took the job a few short years ago. He was the only Auburn Tiger tabbed an All-American by Sporting News.

Ohio State center named to 2025 Rimington preseason watch list
The parade of 2025 preseason award watch lists continued last week, and one of the latest announced was the Rimington preseason watch list. Initially handed out in 2000, the Rimington is awarded to the college football player judged to be the best center in the country. Last week, 40 names were announced on the preseason watch list, and Ohio State center Carson Hinzman was one of those names appearing. Originally from Hammond, Wisconsin, Hinzman was the starting center during the 2023 campaign, but fell to a backup when Seth McLaughlin transferred from Alabama and earned the No. 1 role. However, an injury to McLauglin afforded Hinzman an opportunity to step back in as the starter, and he excelled, helping lead a resurgent offensive line en route to a College Football Playoff national championship. The 6-foot, 5-inch, 300-pounder should be the starter at the position again in 2025, and there's a good chance he ends up being an All-Big Ten performer and one of the best centers in the country. The Rimington will be announced on December 12 and officially handed out during a ceremony in Lincoln, Nebraska, on January 25, 2025. Auburn is in a fierce fight with Ohio State for 5-star safety Bralan Womack
One of the nation's top safeties will announce his commitment this month, and Auburn is considered to be a heavy contender alongside a Big Ten power. In a recent episode of the Simmons Scoop podcast from Rivals, Rivals' Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons says that Auburn is "toe-to-toe" with Ohio State in the race for five-star safety Bralan Womack ahead of Aug. 21's scheduled commitment date, and feels that Hugh Freeze and the Tigers may have a slight lead for the talented defensive back from Mississippi. Simmons says that several other SEC schools are working to sway Womack's decision, but Auburn and Ohio State are the two programs to watch ahead of this month's commitment date. 'Ohio State came out of the spring as the favorite, went into the OVs as the team to beat. Auburn's closed that gap, Florida's trying to push hard. (Texas) A&M is the fourth school on the list, they've faded this summer. Right now, I lean slightly towards Auburn, with Ohio State right there in a tough battle that I think will go down to just hours until he makes that announcement.' Womack visited Auburn in June, scheduling his visit quickly after revealing his top four choices. Following his visit, Womack told Christian Clemente of Auburn Undercover that he feels "comfortable" at Auburn and says that he knows Auburn's football facility and the city of Auburn like the back of his hand. Auburn hopes that Womack's comfort level will play a factor in his decision to commit to the Tigers later this month. Womack, the No. 1 safety of the 2026 class, will announce his commitment on Aug. 21 during a live-streamed event on CBS Sports College Football YouTube channel. Ohio State tight end named to the Mackey Award 2025 preseason watch list
We've got another Ohio State football player who's made a preseason award watch list. Last week, the Mackey Award, which goes to college football's best tight end annually, released 28 names on its 2025 preseason watch list, and OSU's Max Klare is one of those names. Out of Cincinnati St. Xavier, Klare played for Purdue his first three seasons before transferring to Ohio State via the transfer portal at the end of last season. He was an All-Big Ten performer in 2024 and is expected to grab the starting tight end spot for the Buckeyes as one of the best tight ends in the conference and country. He finished 2024 with 51 receptions for 685 yards (13.4 ypc) and four touchdowns. Plugging him into an offense with Jeremiah Smith, Carnell Tate, and the best wide receiving corps in the country should afford Klare plenty of opportunities to build on those numbers this fall. The Mackey Award will be handed out on Friday, December 12, during the Home Depot College Football Awards Show on ESPN. Ohio State has never had a Mackey Award winner since it was first handed out in 2000.
