‘Freaky Friday' director reveals he wasn't invited back for sequel: ‘I did raise my hand'
Even the filmmakers got swapped. Mark Waters, who directed the 2003 film 'Freaky Friday' starring Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis, has revealed that he was never even approached to return for this year's sequel. 10 Mark Waters attends the Netflix premiere of 'He's All That' at the NeueHouse in Hollywood, California, on August 25, 2021. 'I did raise my hand and say I'd love to be involved somehow, even in a kind of godfather aspect or executive producer.' 'But I was not extended an invitation,' he added. Advertisement 'I'm very supportive of them making a great new movie,' he told the outlet. 'It would have been nice to be involved, but now that I'm not, I sort of compartmentalize it for myself.' 'I need to devote my energy to keep making new, original things that are going to be hits, and people can remake them in 20 years,' Waters continued. 'So that's what I'm doing now. You can't worry about the projects that you don't do.' 10 Jamie Lee Curtis as Tess Coleman and Lindsay Lohan as Anna Coleman in 2003's 'Freaky Friday.' ©Buena Vista Pictures/Courtesy Everett Collection 10 Jamie Lee Curtis as Tess Coleman and Lindsay Lohan as Anna Coleman in 'Freakier Friday.' ©Walt Disney Co./Courtesy Everett Collection Advertisement The 'Mr. Popper's Penguins' director also revealed that some members of the cast wondered where he was when the sequel began filming. 'It certainly would have been fun, and I heard from quite a few cast members while they were shooting, saying, 'Where the hell are you, Waters?'' he shared. 'I have not forsaken you! I'm sorry.' Picking up 22 years after Anna Coleman (Lohan) and her mother Tess (Curtis) magically swapped bodies in 'Freaky Friday,' 'Freakier Friday' follows Anna and Tess after they swap bodies once again – but this time with Anna's daughter Harper (Julia Butters) and soon-to-be stepdaughter Lily (Sophia Hammons). 10 Jamie Lee Curtis as Tess Coleman and Lindsay Lohan as Anna Coleman in 'Freaky Friday' (2003). ©Walt Disney Co./Courtesy Everett Collection 10 Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan reprising their roles as Tess and Anna Coleman in 'Freakier Friday' (2025). ©Walt Disney Co./Courtesy Everett Collection The cast is rounded out by several returning characters, including Anna's ex-boyfriend Jake (Chad Michael Murray), teacher Mr. Elton (Stephen Tobolowsky) and Anna's little brother Harry (Ryan Malgarini). After the body-swapping sequel's release on Aug. 8, it received mixed reviews – including a particularly 'harsh' write-up from Time magazine. 'No one, as far as we know, actually asked Disney for a sequel to 2003's buoyant, surprisingly unsyrupy generation-gap comedy 'Freaky Friday,'' the outlet wrote. 'SOME people LOVE it. Me being one.'

Cast of Iconic '80s Drama 'Dallas' Is Virtually Unrecognizable Nearly 35 Years After the Show's End
Cast of Iconic '80s Drama 'Dallas' Is Virtually Unrecognizable Nearly 35 Years After the Show's End originally appeared on Parade. The original cast of the '80s TV drama Dallas is proving you can go home again. The stars of the headline-making family drama, which aired its first season in 1978 (gasp!), recently reunited for a gathering of Ewing family members—and their enemies—that has fans zooming in to see what the iconic stars of the highly rated series look like now. Thanks to Blue Lagoon star Christopher Atkins, who portrayed steamy camp counselor Peter Richards for one season in 1983–1984, Gen Xers are getting a first look at the recent Dallas cast reunion."You still look like that kid," one fan commented to Atkins, 64, on a post he shared to his Instagram account featuring the Dallas originals posing for an epic group photo. Absent from the photo are Larry Hagman—whose 'Who Shot J.R.?' storyline was one of the biggest TV events in history—Barbara Bel Geddes, who portrayed matriarch Miss Ellie Ewing, and Jim Davis, who played Ewing family patriarch Jock Ewing. Hagman passed away in 2012 at the age of 81, while Bel Geddes died in 2005 at 82, and Davis was 71 when he passed away in star Victoria Principal, 75, was also absent from the Dallas cast group photo. Looking dazzling at 84 is actress Linda Gray, alongside the still-handsome Patrick Duffy, 76, whose nice-guy Bobby Ewing became one of Hollywood's hottest heartthrobs. Charlene Tilton, 66, still shines decades after portraying Lucy Ewing. Comments ranged from adoring to envious, with fans of the iconic show coming down with a serious case of FOMO (that's the fear of missing out). Dallas may have aired its last season in 1991—with a three-season reboot in 2012—but fan reaction to seeing the original cast proves their popularity is still as strong as it was in the 1980s. 🎬SIGN UP for Parade's Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox🎬 Cast of Iconic '80s Drama 'Dallas' Is Virtually Unrecognizable Nearly 35 Years After the Show's End first appeared on Parade on Aug 9, 2025 This story was originally reported by Parade on Aug 9, 2025, where it first appeared. 'The Kelly Clarkson Show' Faces a New Fate After the Singer's Hiatus Amid Ex-Husband's Cancer Battle
The fate of Kelly Clarkson's talk show has a new update after the singer's hiatus amid her late ex-husband's cancer battle. After months of speculation surrounding the future of The Kelly Clarkson Show amid the 43-year-old's indefinite absence from the hosting chair, TMZ reports that new episodes featuring Clarkson as host will air in September. More from SheKnows The Reason Behind Kelly Clarkson & Brandon Blackstock's 'Painful, Messy' Divorce Clarkson temporarily, and abruptly, stepped away from hosting the show in February and March without explanation, leaving a string of celebrity guest hosts, including Simu Liu, Roy Woods Jr. and Brooke Shields, to take over. However, we now know that Clarkson's absence was due to her ex's deteriorating health before his death was announced on August 7. 'Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family,' representatives for the talent manager revealed in a statement to People. 'We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family's privacy during this very difficult time.' The announcement came a day after Clarkson revealed that she postponed her Las Vegas residency to spend time with her and Blackstock's children, daughter River, 11, and son Remington, 9, amid his failing health. 'While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children's father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them,' Clarkson wrote in a statement. Clarkson was married to Blackstock from 2013 until 2020, when a contentious divorce battle began between the two, which ended in 2022. Clarkson also sued Blackstock for unlawful work as her talent manager. That case was finalized in 2023 with Blackstock being ordered to pay her $2.6 million. However, insiders say Clarkson rallied behind her ex in his final days. 'Even though they went through an acrimonious divorce, Kelly made a conscious decision to protect Brandon's privacy until the very end for the sake of their family,' a source shared. 'He'd been sick for a while, but his health really took a turn for the worse earlier this year. That's why she was MIA from her talk show.'
