No proposal for Bhubaneswar Metro to Centre: MoS
1 2 Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Metro rail project is notably absent from the list of metro rail proposals either received or sanctioned by the Centre, according to a reply by Union minister of state for housing and urban affairs, Tokhan Sahu, in the Lok Sabha on Friday. Over the past five years, the Centre received 17 proposals, including those submitted this year, but Bhubaneswar's project is not among them. In response to a query from Bharat Mathukumilli, Sahu informed the Lok Sabha that 24 metro projects are currently at various stages of implementation, in addition to the 17 approved by the Centre. Odisha's housing and urban development minister, Krushna Chandra Mahapatra, explained that the previous BJD govt did not submit a proposal for Bhubaneswar Metro because it intended to undertake the project independently, without central assistance. However, the current BJP govt plans to seek the central aid and will submit a proposal in due course. Mahapatra emphasised that the govt is earnestly planning a viable Metro project for the state capital, clarifying that the absence of a proposal submission to the Centre does not indicate lack of seriousness. "We have reimagined the Metro train project differently from the past govt's plan, which was not feasible. Chandigarh: BJP MP Kangana Ranaut 's claim that drugs entering Himachal Pradesh from Punjab were fuelling a youth addiction crisis has triggered bipartisan condemnation in Punjab, with senior members of both Aam Aadmi Party and the Congress accusing the actor-turned-politician of spreading misinformation for political ends. Punjab finance minister, Harpal Singh Cheema, on Friday dismissed Ranaut's remarks as "absurd" and "irrelevant," accusing her of seeking media attention habitually with "baseless" commentary. Responding to her comments while briefing reporters on cabinet decisions, Cheema said Ranaut lacked "basic knowledge of society" and made "objectionable statements" frequently about women and social issues. Cheema cited national drug abuse data that, he said, placed Punjab lower than several BJP-run states, including Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, in terms of prevalence. "Punjab is working proactively to eliminate this menace," he claimed. He further alleged that drugs from Gujarat — Prime Minister Narendra Modi's home state — were being trafficked to other parts of the country. Kangana should survey Gujarat first, while the PM and the (Union) home minister must answer where these drugs were coming from, Cheema said. Mohammadpur is now Bajrangpur
Khargone: Mohammadpur village in Gogawa area of Khargone district has been renamed as Bajrangpur. Secretary Rajesh Kumar Kaul has issued an order in the name of Governor informing that Mohammadpur village in Khargone district will now be known as Bajrangpur. A notification in this regard was also published. Lok Sabha member from Khargone-Barwani Gajendra Patel told TOI, "During Mughal era, name of Ratanpur was changed to Mohammadpur. There has been a long-standing demand from people to rename the village. Efforts started in this direction in 2022 when the gram panchayat sent a proposal to state govt." During the recent visit of cheif minister Mohan Yadav, Patel raised the demand again.
