Longorns stay busy in the transfer portal
The Texas Longhorns have landed another bat. On Monday afternoon, former Stanford shortstop Temo Becerra committed to the Longhorns. He is coming off one of the best seasons of his college career. He will be looking to build on his success with a program chasing a national title.
During the 2025 campaign, Becerra posted a .330 batting average in 54 games. While he was an on-base machine, Becerra also came through with runners in scoring position, driving in 37 runs. Although the California native only hit one home run, he did show some pop with eight doubles and one triple.
Coming out of high school, Becerra was ranked as the 27th-best shortstop in the 2021 class by Perfect Game. Over the last few years, he has only improved and taken his game to another level. In his last season at Stanford, the talented senior saw his on-base and slugging percentage improve.
As Beccera terrorized opposing pitchers, he also dazzled in the field. He finished the 2025 campaign with a .935 fielding percentage. Now, he will work with former MLB star Troy Tulowitzki, an elite defender in his playing days. Under his tutelage, the newest Longhorn should be able to add to his highlight reel.
After a 2025 campaign that ended with an SEC title, the Longhorns have wasted no time adding to their roster. Over the last month, they have added Jack Moroknek, Kaleb Freeman, Luke Dotson, and Carson Tinney through the portal. With a talented roster, they are in a prime position to make a deep playoff run.
With the addition of Becerra, Texas has one fewer hole to fill. For many in Austin, excitement is building for what he will do in a Longhorns uniform.

No. 2 QB Names the Best College in the State of Texas

No. 2 QB Names the Best College in the State of Texas originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Texas Longhorns are not the only school in the state, with the Texas A&M Aggies, Texas Tech Red Raiders and TCU Horned Frogs also present. However, 2027 quarterback Kavian Bryant made sure to set the record straight about which program is the best in the Lone Star State. He said that Texas was the top university in the state, per Rivals' Steve Wiltfong. Bryant would be a welcome addition to the Longhorns' 2027 class, as Texas only has one commit thus far, from four-star edge rusher Taven Epps. The Longhorns already have a slight advantage, as Bryant hails from Palestine, Texas. 'The opportunity is extremely big,' Bryant has said of the Longhorns. 'You know, Texas is the college here in Texas, and for me to earn it is truly a blessing. The Longhorns coaching staff is great, great energy, and vibes were off the charts, and Longhorns history has been great, so yes, the camp was great and I'm blessed to receive the offer.' Bryant is the No. 2 quarterback and No. 39 overall prospect in the Rivals Industry Rankings for the 2027 class. Multiple Texas schools are in the race for Bryant, with Texas A&M leading at 28.9% in the Rivals Recruiting Prediction Machine. The Aggies are followed by Texas Tech (25.3%), the SMU Mustangs (11.4%) and Texas (9.5%). The Longhorns are also making a decent push to flip Georgia Bulldogs commit Justice Fitzpatrick, who is the brother of NFL star Minkah Fitzpatrick. Current quarterback Arch Manning is primed to start after being the backup for the last two seasons. Manning's name has been thrown around a lot in the offseason, but Urban Meyer believed that the young quarterback would face a ton of pressure in 2025. Meyer stated that Manning will face the most pressure of any quarterback in recent memory. Manning and Texas face the Ohio State Buckeyes in the season opener on August 30 at Noon ET on story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Aug 9, 2025, where it first appeared.

5-Star Texas QB Commit Dia Bell Names SEC Powerhouse Still Hanging Around in Recruitment

5-Star Texas QB Commit Dia Bell Names SEC Powerhouse Still Hanging Around in Recruitment originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Texas Longhorns have three five-star commits in their 2026 recruiting class via On3 Sports, but none may be more important than quarterback Dia Bell. Bell has been committed to the Longhorns since June of 2024 and attends American Heritage in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. While his pledge to Texas has remained firm, there has always been one SEC school that has been consistent throughout his recruitment. Per Rivals' Marcus Benjamin, Bell has been pursued by the LSU Tigers from the beginning. Bell even revealed that the Tigers have been attempting to get him to Baton Rouge for a visit, but he has no plans of doing so. 'It's really LSU," Bell said. "They've always been there. I've always had a great relationship with [offensive coordinator] Coach [Joe] Sloan. He's still chipping away, trying to get me to come out, but I have not made any plans to visit LSU at this point.' LSU would love to add a player of Bell's talents to its 2026 class, as the Tigers do not have a quarterback commit yet. Even more so considering he is the top quarterback in the class and No. 4 overall prospect in the Rivals Industry Rankings. With its quarterback from the 2026 class committed, Texas has shifted to the 2027 class. The Longhorns are recruiting Kavian Bryant, the No. 2 quarterback in the class. He set the record straight about what Texas school he thought was the best, going with the Longhorns. Texas is competing for Bryant with the Texas A&M Aggies, Texas Tech Red Raiders and SMU Mustangs. The first USA TODAY Coaches Poll was announced recently, inspiring others to release their own top 25 ahead of the 2025 season. Joel Klatt released his and had the Longhorns below the Penn State Nittany Lions. Texas opens the year with the Ohio State Buckeyes on August 30. Kickoff is at Noon ET on story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Aug 10, 2025, where it first appeared.

Arch Manning Surprisingly Snubbed From Prestigious College Football Honor

Arch Manning Surprisingly Snubbed From Prestigious College Football Honor originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning has not been a full-time starter for his team yet, but was featured in a watch list for a particular award. Manning played in 10 games last season with two starts for his team. His starts came after Quinn Ewers suffered an oblique injury in the Michigan Wolverines game. Ewers played in the following game versus the UTSA Roadrunners, but was forced to exit early. Manning threw for 939 passing yards, nine touchdowns and two interceptions last season. On Thursday, the preseason watch list for the 2025 Manning Award was released, and the Texas star's name was not included. The award is handed out annually by the Allstate Sugar Bowl and goes to the best quarterback in college football. Last year's winner was Miami Hurricanes quarterback Cam Ward. The last Texas player to take home the award was Colt McCoy in 2009, when the Longhorns reached the National Championship Game, but lost to the Alabama Crimson Tide 37-21. While Manning was not named to the watch list, he is still making a positive impact on Texas. The quarterback is apparently influencing the commitment decision of five-star edge rusher Zyron Forstall. Forstall and Manning are both natives of New Orleans, Louisiana, and were able to click fairly quickly when the recruit visited the Longhorns. Elsewhere in recruiting for Texas, the Longhorns are hot on the trail of four-star tight end Brock Williams. However, while Williams seems to be favoring the Georgia Bulldogs, Texas was named the biggest threat to the SEC program in his recruitment. Texas opens the year with the Ohio State Buckeyes on August 30 at Noon ET on story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Aug 15, 2025, where it first appeared.
