History created! Australia's Mitchell Owen becomes the first ever to achieve unique T20I record
Australian debutant Mitchell Owen delivered a stunning all-round display in his first T20 International, guiding his team to a thrilling three-wicket win over the West Indies at Kingston Stadium, Jamaica, on Sunday.
The 23-year-old scored a rapid 50 and claimed a key wicket, helping Australia chase down the target with seven balls to spare.
Owen made an immediate impact with the ball, conceding just 14 runs and dismissing West Indies captain Shai Hope, who had earlier anchored the innings with a 55 off 39 deliveries.

Walking in to bat at No. 6 with Australia in trouble at 78 for 4 in the 9th over, Owen turned the game around with a blistering 80-run partnership off just 40 balls alongside Cameron Green.
Owen brought up his half-century in just 27 balls before falling to Alzarri Joseph, while Green smashed 51 off 26 before being dismissed by Gudakesh Motie.
Owen's debut performance etched his name into the record books:
He became the first player in T20I history to score a fifty and take a wicket on debut against a full-member nation, breaking a 16-year-old record held by South Africa's Rassie van der Dussen.

Singh had scored 57 and taken three wickets against the Netherlands in 2018.
Owen is also just the second player to hit a half-century from No. 6 or lower on debut against a full-member nation, after England's Phil Salt, who scored 57 off 24 against the West Indies in 2022.
He now stands alongside Ricky Ponting and David Warner as only the third Australian to notch a fifty on T20I debut.

Owen's rise comes on the back of a stellar Big Bash League 2024-25 season, where he was instrumental in Hobart Hurricanes' title win — scoring 452 runs and taking six wickets across 11 matches, including a match-winning century in the final.
His talent also earned him a mid-season IPL contract with Punjab Kings as a replacement for Glenn Maxwell, making one appearance during the 2025 season.
Overall, Owen becomes just the 20th player globally — including associate nations — to achieve the rare feat of scoring a fifty and taking a wicket in their T20I debut.

Christian Coleman has defended Sha'Carri Richardson after her arrest for allegedly assaulting him at Seattle-Tacoma Airport. Christian Coleman defended his partner Sha'Carri Richardson on Sunday, a week after the reigning women's 100m world champion was arrested for allegedly assaulting him at a US airport. Speaking after finishing sixth in the 200m at the US track championships in Eugene, Oregon, Coleman expressed his belief that Richardson should not have been detained following the incident at Seattle-Tacoma Airport last Sunday. Richardson spent a night in jail after being detained, with a police report later stating that she was caught on video repeatedly shoving Coleman forcefully. 'For me personally, I feel like it was a sucky situation all round," Coleman said when asked about the incident by AFP. 'I don't feel like she should have been arrested. I mean, people have discussions and emotions and stuff like that. She has things that she needs to work on for herself, of course. So do I, so do you, so does everybody. But I'm the type of guy who's in the business of extending grace, mercy, and love." Coleman, the 2019 world 100m champion, said the controversy had not affected his championships, where he failed to secure a top-three finish in both the 100m and 200m. Norris edges Piastri to win F1 Hungarian GP
Beijing, Aug. 4 (UNI)Lando Norris used a bold one-stop strategy to hold off McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri by just 0.7 seconds to win Sunday's Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix. Norris began the race at the Hungaroring from third on the grid, but dropped to fifth at the start after being squeezed by George Russell and Fernando Alonso, with surprise polesitter Charles Leclerc leading the field ahead of Piastri in second. Faced with losing more ground to Piastri in the Drivers' Championship standings, Norris pivoted from a planned two-stop strategy to just one stop on lap 31. That move proved decisive, as it saw him emerge at the head of the field once the other frontrunners on more conventional strategies had made their second stops. Piastri then swept around the outside of a fading Leclerc on Lap 51, and set about closing the nine-second gap to Norris, whose tyres were 14 laps older than the Australian's. Piastri got within DRS range of Norris with five laps to go, and attempted an inside move on Norris at Turn 1 on the penultimate lap, locking up his tyres and narrowly avoiding contact. Despite heavy pressure from his teammate, Norris kept his head to keep Piastri at bay on a circuit where overtaking is difficult, and ultimately saw out his fifth win of the season, and his third in the last four races. "I'm dead," Norris said afterwards. "It was tough. We weren't really planning on the one-stop at the beginning, but after the first lap it was kind of our only option to get back into [contention for victory]. "The final stint with Oscar catching I was pushing flat out. Rewarding for that and the perfect result today." Behind the dominant McLarens, Russell rounded out the podium for Mercedes some 20 seconds down the road, ahead of an unhappy Leclerc in fourth. The Ferrari driver had led the opening stages from pole position, and appeared to have the pace to keep Piastri at bay, but his race unraveled in the second half as balance issues slowed him significantly. Alonso took Aston Martin's best result of the season so far with fifth, while Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto scored his best ever finish with an impressive drive to sixth. Alonso's teammate Lance Stroll took seventh on a good day for Aston Martin, while Liam Lawson took his second consecutive eighth-place finish for Racing Bulls. Red Bull's Max Verstappen, who looked off the pace all weekend, finished ninth after an investigation into an incident where he appeared to force Lewis Hamilton off the track yielded no penalty, while Kimi Antonelli rounded out the top ten for Mercedes.
