Thug Life box office collection day 10: Kamal Haasan, Mani Ratnam's film barely earns a crore on second Saturday, makes less than what Indian 2 did in two days
Mani Ratnam's crime thriller Thug Life, starring Kamal Haasan in the lead, has slipped down to lakhs in its daily domestic earnings for the past two days. After earning barely Rs 75 lakh on its second Friday and ninth day at the box office, it could barely amass Rs 90 lakh on its second Saturday and 10th day at the box office. Prior to that, Thug Life at least hovered right above the Rs 1 crore mark through its opening week. After opening at Rs 15 crore across all languages on June 5, it dipped down to less than half on the second day when it earned only Rs 7.15 crore. Even the opening weekend couldn't help increase its earnings significantly. As per Sacnilk, the current box office collection of Thug Life in India stands at Rs 45.65 crore. The major chunk comes from the native Tamil version, followed by the dubbed Telugu and Hindi versions respectively. Even after 10 days, Thug Life is struggling to cross even the Rs 50 crore mark, which even Haasan's critically panned vigilante drama Indian 2 amassed in just its first two days last year. In the Hindi market, Thug Life is facing stiff competition from Tarun Mansukhani's ensemble whodunit comedy Housefull 5, headlined by Akshay Kumar, which has earned almost Rs 100 crore more than Thug Life in just nine days since its release on June 6. Also starring Simbu and Trisha, Thug Life reunites Haasan and Ratnam 38 years after their cult classic Nayakan. Thug Life could not be released in Karnataka after Haasan's comments about Kannada language sparked a major controversy. On Friday, the Supreme Court on Friday sought the Karnataka government's response on a plea seeking protection against alleged threats over the screening of Thug Life in Karnataka theatres. The bench recorded the counsel's argument that the so-called ban under threat of violence stems not from any lawful process but from a deliberate campaign of terror, including explicit threat of arson against cinema halls, incitement of large-scale violence targeting linguistic minorities. It added that the Karnataka government through its authorities concerned has become a silent party to this undermining of the Constitution and its failure to use the full force of the law against those openly issuing threats of death, arson, and communal warfare is not just negligence; it is a surrender that effectively hands control to violent non-state actors. 'This constitutes a profound and flagrant failure of the law and order machinery in the state, signifying a dangerous weakening of the constitutional machinery's ability to function and protect its citizens,' the SC said. It had asked the theatre association from Karnataka to approach the Karnataka High Court instead.

Kannappa Trailer: Prabhas, Akshay Kumar, Vishnu Manchu's Film Is A Grand Visual Feast
Last Updated: The trailer for Kannappa, starring Vishnu Manchu, Akshay Kumar, Prabhas, and Mohanlal, has been released. The movie will hit screens worldwide on June 27, 2025. The much-awaited trailer of Kannappa is finally here, and it's as grand as fans hoped. Headlined by Vishnu Manchu, the mythological action epic also features superstar cameos from Akshay Kumar, Prabhas, and Mohanlal, making it one of the most star-studded releases of the year. Vishnu steps into the role of Thinnadu, a valiant warrior who finds spiritual purpose as Bhaktha Kannappa, an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva. Akshay Kumar takes on the divine mantle of Lord Shiva, Prabhas brings intensity as Rudra, and Mohanlal makes a powerful appearance as Kirata. The two minutes and 54 seconds trailer of Kannappa is surely a visual treat. Watch it below: Directed by Mukesh Kumar Singh, the film is being pitched as one of the biggest pan-Indian ventures of the year. It will have a worldwide release on June 27, 2025. The makers described their film as, 'A powerful retelling of the historic and devotional saga of a simple hunter whose ultimate sacrifice became legend. Kannappa takes you into the world of faith, timeless courage, and divine connection." Meanwhile, in a troubling development for the makers of Kannappa, an executive producer had earlier lodged a police complaint at Hyderabad's Film Nagar police station, alleging the theft of a hard disk containing crucial VFX footage from the film. According to reports, the stolen hard disk was received by Raghu, an office assistant employed at the Filmnagar office in Hyderabad. He then allegedly passed the package to a woman identified as Charitha. Since then, both Raghu and Charitha have gone missing. The team issued a statement revealing, 'Credible intelligence has recently emerged that individuals who stole the hard disk are planning to leak over 90 minutes of unreleased footage online in a desperate attempt to derail the release of Kannappa." On the other hand, Manchu Vishnu had said in a press meet in Chennai that the VFX work was taking place in their Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Dubai and London offices. 'When the VFX-related hard disk was sent from Mumbai, it reached my father Mohan Babu's residence in Film Nagar. It's the norm. We are three siblings and all our packages arrive there, and our respective managers would go collect it. Similarly, the hard disk arrived at our dad's residence. It was handed over to Raghu and Charitha, and they have been missing since then," he stated. Kannappa is produced by veteran actor Mohan Babu, father of lead star Vishnu Manchu. The film boasts a stellar ensemble cast, including Kajal Aggarwal, Preity Mukundhan, Brahmanandam, and Sarath Kumar. Directed by Mukesh Kumar Singh, the epic is being bankrolled under the banners of Twenty Four Frames Factory and AVA Entertainment. Interestingly, Vishnu Manchu has also penned the story and screenplay for this ambitious mythological drama. First Published: June 15, 2025, 09:07 IST
