CM to hold urgent meeting today with officials, stakeholders
'After we apprised him of the traffic and infrastructure-related problems faced by Puneites in Hinjewadi area, the chief minister has decided to hold a meeting tomorrow (Thursday) in Mumbai. I'm confident the chief minister will come up with some concrete solutions to ease the problems faced by people in Hinjewadi area,' BJP MLA Shankar Jagtap said.
Jagtap said the issue of merger of Hinjewadi with PCMC will also discussed. 'Though it is not a part of tomorrow's agenda, I am going to raise the issue of merger of Hinjewadi area with PCMC, which had sent the proposal for merger at least seven years back. It is pending with the state government,' he said.
IT professionals and residents from Hinjewadi have also started an online campaign seeking merger of the IT hub with PCMC.
Among others, the meeting will be attended by Deputy Chief Ministers Ajit Pawar and Eknath Shinde, minister of state (urban development department), PMC and PCMC commissioners, PMRDA commissioner, police commissioners of Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, Pune District Collector and officials of the NHAI, MahaMetro and MIDC.
'The CM has taken cognisance of the problems faced by the citizens by urgently convening the meeting. The outcome of the meeting will certainly bring a big relief to citizens, IT professionals and motorists using different roads in Hinjewadi area,' Jagtap said.
He said thousands of people have been affected by the daily traffic jams in Hinjewadi area. 'It is costing them heavily in terms time, money and fuel. Also, it is a big mental harassment for them. It's time we focus our attention on roads, ring road, flyovers, public transport and parking in this area,' he said.
Jagtap, who represents Chinchwad Assembly constituency which is close to Hinjewadi area, lamented that Hinjewadi traffic issue has remained a neglected area so far.
Bhosari MLA Mahesh Landge said the state government has stepped forward to resolve the long-pending traffic and civic issues affecting Hinjewadi area. 'The state government has taken a positive step by urgently convening a meeting to resolve the issues affecting the world famous IT park of Hinjewadi,' he said.
Landge said in the very first rain of the season, Hinjewadi IT hub turned into a 'water park'. 'Those working in the hub are facing a nightmare vis-a-vis daily traffic jams, power outages and lack of proper basic amenities. IT professionals and residents have also undertaken a signature campaign to get their grievances redressed. As per my information, 30,000 IT professionals have backed this campaign,' he said.
Demanding an action plan, Landge said there was lack of coordination between different public authorities who are supposed to take care of the needs of Hinjewadi area. 'There is no effective coordination between PMRDA, MIDC, Zilla Parishad and NHAI. Though it is a world famous IT hub, because of lack of proper amenities, it is getting defamed.'
Baramati MP Supriya Sule has also taken up the problems of Hinjewadi with the CM. She has written a letter to the CM urging him to either form a Special City Development Authority or an Industrial Urban Administrative Authority. Sule said Hinjewadi and nearby areas were facing issues of traffic jams, waterlogging and frequent power failures. 'But the different public authorities have been found wanting. The state government should take urgent steps to resolve the problems faced by people in Hinjewadi area,' she said in the letter.
On Monday, the Hinjewadi area witnessed a major power outage. For over 24 hours, IT companies and housing societies were without power.

Activists slam PCMC over proposed tree felling, 1,200 objections filed
Over 100 citizens and environmental activists, present for the hearing of the proposed tree felling of 1,009 trees in Wakad and Sangvi for the Riverfront Development Project (RFD) on Monday, claimed the proposed docket prepared by the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) was illegal and legally flawed. According to PCMC officials, the revised docket proposes felling of 1,009 trees, transplanting 2,252. (HT) The PCMC last month had issued a public notice in newspapers regarding the proposed tree felling and replantation of trees that will be affected during the RFD project. The civic body received over 1,200 suggestions and objections to the project. During the hearing, held at the civic garden in Bhosari, green activists submitted a fresh letter demanding cancellation of the existing docket, which they claimed violates the Maharashtra (Urban Areas) Protection and Preservation of Trees Act, 1975. According to PCMC officials, the revised docket proposes felling of 1,009 trees, transplanting 2,252, and retaining 3,585 trees, including heritage and ecologically significant trees. Besides, 67 trees have already fallen naturally due to age or calamities. Activists argued that the very basis of the current hearing is flawed as Section 5(a) of the Tree Act mandates that only the Tree Authority or designated Tree Officer can carry out official tree surveys. The documents presented lack basic legal compliance as they do not include geo-tagged photographs, survey dates, or location coordinates, they said. Green activist, Prashant Raul, pointed out that many trees currently standing at the site were missing from the survey report. 'A previous tree census from December 2021 by PCMC, which provides a more accurate count, was ignored. An RTI has also been filed demanding that the older data be used to assess the objections. The report fails to follow the Act's definition of a tree, omitting climbers, grasses, and shrubs. Additionally, the Expert Committee's report, which should clarify why certain trees are being felled or transplanted, was not made available,' he said. Another major concern, according to activists, is that the hearing focused only on the Wakad to Sangvi stretch, while the RFD covers up to Dapodi. Activists questioned why permissions and objections are being considered phase-wise when project approvals were taken for the full stretch. Also, native species such as Karanj, Neem, Banyan, Peepal and Babool were labelled as 'invasive' in the report, drawing widespread criticism. Raju Savle, civic activist, also accused PCMC of already cutting down trees without necessary permissions. Evidence, including photos from 2023, 2024 and this year was submitted, showing large-scale felling to make way for contractor's vehicles and machinery. Mahesh Gargote, head of the garden department, PCMC, said, 'The Tree department has received around 1,200 objections from the public. These objections will be compiled and forwarded to the Environment department and later presented before the Tree Authority. The project work has begun in some sections. All objections would be considered and possible corrective actions would be taken following the Tree Act guidelines.'

PCMC to come up with five-year infrastructure plan for Industrial areas
In a major step to address long-standing infrastructure issues in the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) areas and unapproved industrial zones located in the twin city of Pimpri-Chinchwad, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) will come up with a comprehensive five-year development plan, said the officials. A dedicated consultant has been appointed to design the development plan. (HT) The initiative aims to transform ageing industrial areas like Bhosari, Akurdi, Pimpri, Chinchwad, Talawade, and Chikhali, which have struggled for decades with poor roads, drainage problems, and waste management challenges. Despite contributing around ₹320 crore annually in taxes to the civic body, these industrial zones, housing over 7,200 industrial units, have lacked basic infrastructure. The total area of PCMC is 181 sq. km., out of which 12.24 sq. km. falls under MIDC's planning jurisdiction. PCMC will invest ₹100 crore in the first phase for road upgrades and new road construction. A dedicated consultant has been appointed to design the development plan. Temporary repairs worth ₹7–8 crore will be carried out until the full-scale work begins. Over ₹200 crore has already been spent on roads in the past four years,' said Shekhar Singh, municipal commissioner, PCMC. 'This is the first time a structured, long-term plan has been created exclusively for industrial infrastructure. We're not just fixing roads but trying to build future-ready facilities and networks for the industries,' said Singh. According to PCMC officials, there is currently no drainage network in these industrial areas. PCMC has prepared a detailed drainage plan, which includes 27 MLD capacity CETPs (Common Effluent Treatment Plants) that will be built by MIDC at a cost of ₹850 crore. These will treat waste from both organised and unorganised industrial units, helping reduce pollution in the Pavana and Indrayani rivers. Besides, the PCMC will construct STPs (Sewage Treatment Plants) of 20 MLD and drainage lines, which will cost around ₹650 crore, they said. Furthermore, PCMC's Health Department recently surveyed all 7,200 industries to understand the quantity and type of waste generated, including hazardous waste. The civic body has launched an awareness campaign among industries and has begun collecting industrial waste to prevent fires at garbage depots. Additional manpower and machinery will be deployed to improve waste collection and disposal. Pradeep Jambhale Patil, additional municipal commissioner, PCMC, said, The MIDC area has perennial problems of waterlogging due to inadequate stormwater lines. 'As per the plan, the PCMC has surveyed natural drains (nallahs) in these areas. We recently cleared the waterlogging issues in the J Block and T Block of MIDC. Besides, encroachments along nallahs by industries have been identified and will be removed from next week,' he said. Moreover, PCMC has identified 11 locations in industrial zones to build new public toilets. A dedicated fire station for MIDC areas is also being planned to be set up in the MIDC area, they said. According to the officials, a high-level meeting under Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar is scheduled to review the plan. The state government has already approved the CETP and STP projects. PCMC will also coordinate with MIDC and PMRDA to ensure smooth implementation.

PCMC to post draft DP in Marathi for wider reach deadline to send views long over
Pune: The state govt has told Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to translate its draft Development Plan (DP) into Marathi and republish it online for better public understanding. The original draft, published in English this May, was open for public suggestions and objections until July 14. The demand for a Marathi version came from Maval's Shiv Sena MP Shrirang Barne who wrote to the state govt last month stating that many residents were unable to submit their objections to the proposed reservations mentioned in the draft due to lack of understanding of English. In response to his letter on July 6, the state govt, on July 30, instructed PCMC to act on the request, citing instructions from the office of deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde. The Shiv Sena MP added that govt should intervene to publish the draft in Marathi. The municipal corporation received over 49,500 suggestions and objections from citizens. The civic body has already initiated the process of segregating them to prepare for final hearings which will be conducted by the state govt-appointed committee. As per the standard procedure, the committee will prepare a final version of the draft after hearings, which will be sent to the state govt for final approval. The officer further clarified that there are no legal mandates to prepare these drafts in Marathi. MLAs and MLCs from Pimpri Chinchwad voiced strong objections to the reservations listed in the draft Development Plan (DP), demanding its cancellation. They also raised the issue during the recently concluded assembly session, alleging that the committee responsible for drafting the plan imposed reservations on many residential structures. BJP MLA from Chinchwad Shankar Jagtap said, "The whole draft was prepared using wrong methods as reservations were also proposed on properties where building permissions were granted by the municipal corporation." Another BJP MLA Mahesh Landge said at least 850 reservations from the old DP were again mentioned in the draft. "The civic body has put reservations on many religious temples, which must be cancelled, and the hearings of all the objections must happen in an unbiased manner," he said.
