2025 Arizona Cardinals training camp roster preview: QB Clayton Tune
The Arizona Cardinals report to training camp on July 22 and begin the process of preparing for the regular season, forming the roster and determining starting jobs and roles on the team.
Leading up to the start of camp, we will take a look at every player on the offseason roster, their background, their contract, their play in 2024, questions they face and their roster outlook.
This focuses on quarterback Clayton Tune.
Clayton Tune background, 2024 season
Tune enters his third NFL season. He was drafted in the fifth round in 2023 out of Houston. He has been the Cardinals' backup quarterback for two seasons. He had one start in 2023 preceding Kyler Murray's return from his ACL injury.
Last year, the Cardinals traded for Desmond Ridder but Tune beat him out for the backup job in training camp and the preseason.
Last season, he appeared in six games, playing 31 snaps. He mostly entered games for kneeldowns or quarterback sneaks. He completed his only two pass attempts for eight yards and had minus-four yards on seven rushing attempts, although he did pick up two first downs.
Clayton Tune 2025 contract details, cap hit
Tune will make $1.03 million in salary in 2025 if he makes the active roster. He will count $1.12 million against the salary cap.
Questions he faces, roster outlook
Tune find himself is a tough situation in 2025. The Cardinals signed veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett to a two-year contract this offseason with his 2025 salary fully guaranteed. Brissett will be Kyler Murray's backup.
Also, in two seasons under head coach Jonathan Gannon, the Cardinals have never carried more than two quarterbacks on the 53-man roster, so Tune will have to show extraordinary growth to make the roster.
He is currently a longshot to make the team but is probably a lock for the practice squad, considering how Gannon has spoken about Tune.

Tom Brady Has One-Word Reaction to Magic Johnson Showing off His Billionaire Lifestyle
Tom Brady Has One-Word Reaction to Magic Johnson Showing off His Billionaire Lifestyle originally appeared on Athlon Sports. While many fans remember Magic Johnson from his glory days with the "Showtime" Lakers teams of the 1980s, the 65-year-old has since become an accomplished businessman and entrepreneur. The five-time NBA champion shared a post to his Instagram account on Thursday to provide some motivation to his followers. Johnson's caption read, "You don't need much motivation to workout with this beautiful backdrop!" The video shows Magic walking on a treadmill as the drone camera pulls back to reveal his location. Johnson is aboard a huge yacht named Whisper, although it's unknown whether it's his vessel or a charter. The Instagram reel then cuts to show the yacht from another angle, from the vantage point of striking cliffs and exposed rocks near crystal-blue shallows, which could be located somewhere in the Mediterranean. With all the attention from Johnson's followers, one fan took special notice. NFL legend Tom Brady congratulated Johnson's post by leaving a reply that read, "Yessir🔥." Brady and Johnson are connected indirectly in business, as they are both minority owners in several sports leagues. Brady, along with Mark and Carol Davis, has ownership of the Las Vegas Aces. The former New England Patriots quarterback is also a minority owner of the NFL's Las Vegas Raiders. Magic, who is reported to have a net worth of $1.5 billion, is affiliated with the Los Angeles Sparks as part of a collective called Sparks LA Sports, which owns the franchise. Steelers sign GM Omar Khan to 3-year extension after offseason that included signing Aaron Rodgers
PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Steelers signed general manager Omar Khan to a three-year extension after an offseason that saw the team bring in quarterback Aaron Rodgers. The Steelers announced the deal Thursday that will keep Khan with Pittsburgh through the 2028 season. He was hired as the team's GM in 2022. 'Omar and his team have done a great job over the past three years in constructing our roster through the NFL draft, strategic trades, and free agency,' Steelers president Art Rooney II said in a statement. 'We look forward to continuing that trend that will lead to even more success on the field.' Khan and coach Mike Tomlin are structuring their offense around Rodgers, the four-time NFL MVP who's returning for a 21st season. The 41-year-old Rodgers signed a one-year deal after a season in which Justin Fields and Russell Wilson combined to lead the Steelers to a 10-7 record and a playoff berth. To bolster the receiver spot, Pittsburgh acquired two-time Pro Bowl wide receiver DK Metcalf from Seattle. The Steelers quickly signed him to a five-year deal to bring some stability at the position. Earlier this week, the team acquired All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey, Pro Bowl tight end Jonnu Smith and a 2027 seventh-round draft pick from the Miami Dolphins for All-Pro safety Minkah Fitzpatrick and a 2027 fifth-round pick. The next order of business for Pittsburgh could be working out a new deal with star linebacker T.J. Watt. The four-time All-Pro and 2021 AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year is getting ready to enter the final season of the four-year extension he signed in September 2021. In April, Pittsburgh will host the NFL draft. The Steelers are scheduled to have a dozen selections to reshape their roster. A priority figures to be in finding a long-term solution at QB. 'I believe we are building a championship roster and look forward to the 2025 season and beyond as our goals continue to be to bring another Super Bowl to the city of Pittsburgh and our great fans,' said Khan, who's in his 25th season with the Steelers. ___
