Ex-Arsenal star releases statement after being rushed to hospital with horror injury
Ex- Arsenal star Carl Jenkinson has thanked doctors for their help after being rushed to hospital with an awful injury. The right-back was in action for League Two side Bromley over the weekend as they took on Millwall.
His afternoon ended prematurely as he was left in agony after attempting to halt a Millwall attack. Medical staff rushed onto the pitch to treat the stricken star, who was given gas and air.
The game was paused as Jenkinson was stretchered from the pitch, while he was then rushed to hospital after it was revealed that he had dislocated his hip. Jenkinson has now spoken out and has thanked doctors for their swift attention, while he has promised to return as soon as possible.
In a statement shared by Bromley, he said: "Just wanted to put something out there to say a big thank you to the people who rallied around to help me on Saturday. The paramedics, doctors, nurses and everyone at PRU Hospital. It's only when you are in a time of need that you realise how incredible these people really are.
'Thanks to everyone at the club who has helped me through the last couple of days. Bromley is a football club that is growing very quickly but the soul of the club remains incredibly tight-knit and steadfast.
'Unfortunately these setbacks are part and parcel of the game we love, and you have to take the rough with the smooth. As you get a bit older you come to appreciate every second you have on the pitch, because you learn that in sport it can be taken away from you at any moment.
'I feel a deep sadness writing this knowing it's going to be a while until I can play again, but that pre-match feeling and the thought of stepping out onto the pitch with the boys again already gives me the fire in my belly to tackle this process head on.
'To my team mates, the Gaffer, the coaching staff, the Chairman, and everyone who works for Bromley, thanks for your love and support. I'll be back out there to play my part as soon as I can in what I know is going to be a great season. See you soon, Jenko.'
Jenkinson, now 33, played 70 times for Arsenal between 2011 and 2019. He eventually departed for Nottingham Forest, while he has also had spells with Australian sides Melbourne City and Newcastle Jets.
He signed for Bromley last season, playing 13 games across all competitions. Bromley kick off their League Two campaign against Shrewsbury Town away from home this Saturday.

Revealed: Viktor Gyokeres' surprise move, ten days before Swedish star completed £70m Arsenal transfer
Viktor Gyokeres reportedly set up a company in London almost two weeks before his move to Arsenal was finalised. The Gunners' interest in the prolific Swede had been obvious from the start of the summer window, but negotiations over a deal went on for weeks. Amid interest from rivals Manchester United, the delays must have left Arsenal supporters wondering whether they'd ever finalise a deal, let alone complete a transfer in time for next season. But it seems for the man himself the move was never in-doubt, as Gyokeres registered a new London-based promotions company 10 days before he signed on the dotted line on July 26, according to The Times. The company was registered on July 16 and is expected to handle the striker's image rights income. Its title, VG9 Productions Ltd, takes inspiration from Gyokeres' initials and the number he wore during his two seasons at Sporting Lisbon. It was thought that the Swede would have preferred the No 9 at Arsenal - currently occupied by Gabriel Jesus - but later expressed his desire to follow in the footsteps of Thierry Henry with No 14. After completing his £64m move last weekend, Gyokeres jetted off to Asia to meet his new team-mates on their pre-season tour of Asia. His debut came on Thursday against rivals Tottenham Hotspur, with the frontman afforded 20 or so minutes off the bench as he builds his fitness ahead of the new season. Arsenal begin their campaign with a difficult away fixture at Old Trafford on August 16. He signs with a heap of expectation on his shoulders after slotting home an incredible 97 goals in 102 appearances in Lisbon. The Gunners' longing for a proven frontman has been well- documented amid the struggles of Gabriel Jesus since his move from Manchester City. Mikel Arteta expressed his delight that he and club officials finally got their man last week, saying: ''We're absolutely delighted to welcome Viktor Gyokeres to the club. The consistency he has shown in his performances and availability have been outstanding, and his goal contributions speak for themselves. 'Viktor has so many qualities. He is a quick and powerful presence up front, with incredible goalscoring numbers at club and international levels. 'He brings a clinical edge with a high conversion rate of chances into goals, with his intelligent movement in the box making him a constant threat. 'We're excited about what Viktor brings to our squad and are looking forward to start working with him. We welcome Viktor and his family to Arsenal.' Sporting Director Andrea Berta added: 'We are so pleased with the excellent deal we have completed to bring Viktor Gyokeres to the club. 'Viktor is an exceptional talent and has consistently demonstrated he has the qualities and winning mentality required of a top-level centre-forward. 'His physicality, intelligence and work ethic make him a perfect fit for our vision. We are confident Viktor will have a major impact on the pitch and become an important figure in our dressing room. Welcome, Viktor!'

Crawley given sobering re-introduction to League Two with defeat at Grimsby
Crawley were given a sobering re-introduction to League Two as Grimsby ran out resounding 3-0 victors at Blundell Park. A debut penalty strike from Jaze Kabia, a header from Cameron McJannet and a piledriver from Evan Khouri gave Grimsby a convincing opening-day victory. Kabia stepped up on debut after Kieran Green was fouled by Crawley goalkeeper Harvey Davies in the box just nine minutes in, and the former converted for the dream start to his Grimsby career. The Mariners deserved their second goal 30 minutes in, this time provided by their centre-back McJannet, who powered in a header from a Charles Vernam cross. Kabia hit the crossbar in first-half stoppage time, which might have put the game out of sight at that moment, but the result was wrapped up soon after the break. Khouri was in on the act for the hosts in the 64th minute, firing low and hard into the bottom right corner of the net from the edge of the box after a few blocked shots.

Lewis Hamilton: I'm absolutely useless and Ferrari need a new driver
The 40-year-old has a record eight wins and nine pole positions here. However, a week after he qualified only 16th at Spa-Francorchamps, he suffered another setback. Lewis Hamilton was knocked out in the second phase of qualifying (Bradley Collyer/PA) Hamilton has now been out-qualified by Leclerc at 10 of the 14 rounds so far and trails his team-mate by 30 points in the standings. And, in an astonishing admission in the moments after qualifying, Hamilton told Sky Sports: 'It's me every time. 'I'm useless, absolutely useless. The team have no problem. You've seen the car's on pole. So we probably need to change driver.' After he failed to progress to Q3, Hamilton emerged from his cockpit and walked towards the Ferrari motorhome holding his gloves in front of his visor to obstruct the full glare of the waiting TV cameras. Hamilton's lowly grid slot looks set to extend his run without a podium finish to 14 races. Until this season he had never gone more than 10 rounds into a campaign without finishing in the top three. Ready to fight from there 🇭🇺 — Scuderia Ferrari HP (@ScuderiaFerrari) August 2, 2025 In a subsequent session with the print media, which lasted just 59 seconds, Hamilton added: 'I just wasn't very good, just not fast enough. It is nothing to do with the car. (It has been) a struggle all weekend.' Rain could play a role in Sunday's race but when asked if the possible inclement conditions could help him, Hamilton said: 'I don't think anything can help me right now.' Championship leader Oscar Piastri and title rival Lando Norris had been expected to fight for pole, but the McLaren men were left to settle for second and third respectively. Leclerc saw off Piastri by just 0.026 seconds, with Norris only 0.015secs behind the Australian. George Russell finished fourth for Mercedes. Leclerc said: 'Today I don't understand anything in Formula One. Honestly, the whole qualifying was extremely difficult. When I say extremely difficult, it's not exaggerating. 'It was difficult for us to get to Q2, it was difficult for us to get to Q3. In Q3, the conditions changed a little bit. Everything became a lot trickier and I knew I just had to do a clean lap to target third. 'At the end of the day, it's pole position. I definitely did not expect that. Honestly, I have no words. It's probably one of the best pole positions I've ever had. It's the most unexpected, for sure.'
