Extortion via massage service: Woman held

TAWAU: A woman suspected of being involved in an extortion case in Perak by using a fake online massage service advertisement was arrested in Kg Titingan at 12.25pm on Tuesday. Tawau Deputy Police Chief Supt Champin Piuh said the 21-year-old suspect was detained by a team from the District Police Criminal Investigation Division following a tip-off.
Advertisement A report was lodged at the Gerik District Police Headquarters (IPD) in Perak in February, with an investigation paper opened under Section 385 of the Penal Code for extortion. The case unfolded after a 41-year-old foreigner contacted a woman offering massage services via Google and WhatsApp. 'However, after making an initial payment of RM100, the woman failed to show up at the agreed location. 'The victim later received threats from an unknown number, demanding an additional RM500 to 'cancel' the service, warning that someone would be sent to find or harm him if he refused,' he said in a statement, Thursday. Fearing for his safety, the victim transferred the money to one of the suspect's accounts via an ATM in Perak. He lodged a police report after when he realised he had been scammed, especially after being pressured to pay more. The suspect is being investigated for possible links to a cyber scam syndicate. Champin reminded the public to always be cautious and not to fall easily for dubious online service offers. 'Avoid making payments to unknown individuals and immediately report any form of threats or intimidation to the authorities,' he said. A fire that broke out near the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant after Ukrainian shelling has been brought under control, the Russian-installed administration of the Russia-held plant in Ukraine said on Saturday. Mall assault: Classmates attacked teen over how he spoke, say cops
KUALA LUMPUR: The Form One student assaulted at a Kajang mall was targeted over his classmates' dissatisfaction with his communication and behaviour. Kajang police chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof said the remand for the four 13-year-old students was extended for one more day until tomorrow. "The students were released on police bail today after the documentation and investigation process were completed. "So far, nine witness statements have been taken, including those from the four students who were arrested. "The suspect, a classmate of the victim, was dissatisfied over how the complainant communicated and interacted with classmates," he said when contacted today. Four male students were detained after the victim, who is also a Form One student at a secondary school in Kajang, lodged a police report after being beaten by a classmate at 11am on July 30. The case is being investigated under Sections 323 and 506 of the Penal Code as well as Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the case will be referred to the Attorney-General's Chambers next week, with 60 witnesses interviewed. Zara's mother, through lawyers Hamid Ismail and Shahlan Jufri, denied linking the case to any VIPs and urged the public not to spread unverified claims, warning such actions could hinder investigations. Police found no evidence connecting the incident to political or influential figures.
