WWE 10 Bell Salute To Hulk Hogan
With the entire WWE SmackDown staff onstage, Triple H led a 10-bell salute to Hulk Hogan. Fans were unanimously cheering and chanting for Hulk Hogan.
After the salute, where the majority of people onstage were emotional, WWE aired an awesome video package on Hogan. Narrated by Triple H, it was essentially a mini-documentary. WWE aired 'Remembering Hulk Hogan' vignettes throughout the night.
Joe Tessitore opened the broadcast by calling Hogan the most transformational wrestler in history. Right after Tessitore and Barrett wrapped up their tributes to Hogan, they were interrupted by Cleveland's own Logan Paul.
Impaulsive With Logan Paul Featuring Jelly Roll
Logan purposefully confused 'Thank you, Hogan' chants for 'Thank you, Logan.' Diabolical.
Jelly Roll interrupted Logan Paul to a huge pop. Jelly then cut an awesome promo, saying the only thing Paul has ever inspired is 'little a—hole kids filming themselves being a—holes.'
Paul stepped on Jelly Roll's lines, mocking Jelly Roll for thinking he had a chance against Paul and Drew McIntyre. Jelly Roll fired back, saying he'd ship Logan Paul back to Westlake. Jelly Roll is one of the best promos in this company.
Jelly finished this onslaught by calling Paul a 'Prime-peddling, punk-ass bitch.' Then he sang Randy out to the ring in a call-and-response. Jelly Roll is unbelievable.
The action got physical, Jelly Roll hit a series of shoulder tackles and polished Paul off with a Blackhole slam.
Roxanne Perez Def. Alexa Bliss
In terms of combined height, this has to be one of the shortest matches between two full-sized adults in WWE history.
Charlotte Flair waved a black pom pom in support of her new BFF Alexa Bliss.
Flair and Raquel Rodriguez brawled on the outside. Perez got the better of Charlotte, and instead of hitting Twisted Bliss on Perez, Bliss saved Charlotte with a Twisted Bliss on Raquel.
Roxanne Perez took advantage of a distracted Bliss and rolled her up while holding the bottom rope. Team 'We're Not Friends' are definitely winning the women's Tag Titles. Bliss was bloodied in the match.
Jade Cargill Def. Chelsea Green
Chelsea Green cut a backstage promo on Jade Cargill, but Cargill was behind Green the entire time. Cargill attacked Green and the two engaged in a one-sided brawl all the way back into Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse.
A referee rang the bell to start an impromptu match.
Cargill made quick work of Chelsea Green after the break, countering the Unpretti-Her with Jaded.
Cody Rhodes Calls Out John Cena
Cody Rhodes appeared in a jogging suit. You'd think it was because he didn't have the time to put on a suit, but Rhodes appeared in a suit to begin the show during Hogan's 10 bell salute. So, in essence, it took more effort for Rhodes to put on his jogging suit.
Cody Rhodes thanked Hulk Hogan before his promo before turning his attention to John Cena: last generation's Hulk Hogan.
Cody Rhodes said he wants to wrestle the real John Cena. Rhodes wants the version of John Cena who wears the belt correctly and runs to the ring. The most noteworthy part of this promo was Cody suggesting Cena will be at SmackDown next week.
Jacob Fatu Def. The Miz
Cleveland's own Miz gave Jacob Fatu an impassioned backstage promo, six weeks after Fatu took out Miz. Babyface Miz slapped Fatu backstage as a means to fire him up, an d challenged Fatu to a match.
Miz started the match strong with heavy support from his hometown crowd. Unfortunately for Miz, they almost immediately switched their support to Fatu.
As Fatu prepared for a running hip attack, Solo Sikoa and the MFT's interrupted him. The distraction caused Miz to pounce and take advantage of the match.
The Miz got a lot of offense considering his opponent, but Fatu finished him with a pop-up Samoan drop. Jimmy Uso saved Fatu with a steel chair in hand. Uso struck Talla Tonga with a steel chair, but Tonga no-sold it. Fatu took out all three MFT's before attempting to Pillmanize Solo. Fatu was cut off by Talla, mid-sprint. Solo and the MFT's stood tall to a ton of heat.
Andrade And Rey Fenix Def. The Wyatt Sicks By DQ
Andrade and Rey Fenix are 4-0 as teammates. This isn't a traditional SmackDown main event, so WWE tried its best to build it up with a well-done video package earlier in the night.
Andrade and Rey Fenix opened up with a series of double-team moves, but Cleveland didn't seem to care just yet.
The Wyatts smothered Rey Fenix until he made the hot tag to Andrade. Rey got the crowd into by clearing Andrade and Joe Gacy with a dive unto Dexter Lumis. Andrade hit The Message, but Nikki Cross pulled the referee out for the DQ finish. People were furious.
The entire tag team division filled up the ring and brawled as SmackDown went off the air. Nick Aldis announced a TLC Match. He didn't say which tag teams would be involved, though, but Tessitore said all of them would be involved.

'Spartacus: House of Ashur' to premiere on Starz this winter
July 27 (UPI) -- Starz has narrowed the premiere window for Spartacus: House of Ashur to "this winter" and released a new teaser for the eagerly awaited period drama. Nick E. Tarabay will reprise his role of Ashur from 2010's Spartacus: Blood and Sand. Spartacus franchise creator Steven S. DeKnight is the showrunner for the latest chapter. "What if he lived, and the Romans rewarded his treachery with the gladiator school where he once bled? Welcome to the House of Ashur. No longer a slave, Ashur has clawed his way to power, owning the same ludus that once owned him," a synopsis for the show said. "But ruling a band of merciless gladiators is child's play compared to surviving the savage world of Roman politics -- a cutthroat game in which betrayal isn't a sin, it's currency." The cast will also include Tenika Davis, Graham McTavish, Jamaica Vaughan, Jordi Webber and Jaime Slater.

How Dark Gritty Reboots Paved the Way for Today's Lighter Escapism in Cinema — GeekTyrant
For years, Hollywood loved its dark, grounded reboots. But times have changed, and so have audience tastes. A recent video essay by Pyramid Peak takes a deep dive into why the bleak tone of early 2000s blockbusters has shifted toward something lighter, more hopeful, and even escapist, like Superman . After September 11, 2001, American audiences gravitated toward stories that reflected their fears and uncertainties. Movies embraced gritty realism, and no franchise exemplified that better than Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy. 'You can imagine just how incredible it was to see this in 2005 for the first time audiences saw a Batman who looked like he belonged in our world and faced dangers that felt almost too real. 'Needless to say Batman Begins was a massive success to critics and general audiences the movie's dark and gritty tone felt like a breath of fresh air.' Following that, other franchises leaned hard into the 'realistic' approach, turning comic book worlds and action sagas into moody character studies. But that was 20 years ago, and as Pyramid Peak explains, that tone no longer resonates the same way: '20 years later the reboot doesn't pack the same punch. So what happened to the dark and gritty era? Right now we're living in a world of constant noise a million channels of conflicting information are all shouting at once. 'That overwhelm might inspire stories where the hero is someone who cuts through the chaos sees the bigger picture and finds a clean focused solution a narrative where all the threats are secretly connected and one brave person untangles them giving us the simple clarity we crave.' This shift is more than just stylistic. It's a reflection of our cultural mood. Back then, villains were symbolic. Today, the issues feel personal and systemic. As Peak notes, future stories might even tackle wealth inequality head-on. 'If another global recession makes wealth inequality the popular issue of the day, the real enemies might be the rich, the powerful the out of touch elite. We could see a resurgence of stories about the common person rising up against unchecked greed and corruption and a generation dealing with the housing crisis and endless inflation would connect with the hero who's dealt a crappy hand but make something of it.' The era of gritty antiheroes might be behind us, replaced by characters who bring clarity in chaos or challenge corruption head-on. In other words, escapism is evolving, and Hollywood will follow wherever our cultural compass points next.
