Slugging third baseman Eugenio Suárez returns to Mariners in deal with Diamondbacks, AP source says
The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the deal had not been announced.
Suarez spent the 2022 and 2023 seasons with Mariners, hitting 53 home runs.
The 34-year-old infielder has 36 homers this season and is tied with Seattle's Cal Raleigh for the major league RBI lead with 87. He joins a lineup that already ranks fifth in the majors in home runs, thanks in large part to Raleigh — the major league leader with 41 homers.
Suárez is in the final season of an eight-year, $79 million contract and is eligible for free agency after next season. Seattle is fighting for a wild-card spot.

NBA Opening Night to reportedly feature Rockets-Thunder, Warriors-Lakers, with 5-game slate on Christmas Day
The schedule for the 2025-2026 NBA season is starting to take place, as early pieces of the schedule are making their way out. For Opening Night on Oct. 21, the NBA will kick off the year with two big games on NBC, per ESPN's Shams Charania. The night will include the Houston Rockets playing the Oklahoma City Thunder, and the Golden State Warriors traveling to the Los Angeles Lakers. The first matchup has the defending NBA champs hosting the Rockets, who finished second in the West last season. The second could pit two league heavyweights, Warriors guard Stephen Curry and Lakers forward LeBron James, against each other to start the season (though James' future with the Lakers is currently a little uncertain). Either way, it opens the season with the league's triumphant return to NBC, as the network hosts NBA games for the first time in more than two decades. In addition to Opening Night, Charania has offered up a report on the NBA's Christmas Day slate. Those matchups are: Cleveland Cavaliers at New York Knicks San Antonio Spurs at Oklahoma City Thunder Houston Rockets at the Lakers Dallas Mavericks at the Warriors Minnesota Timberwolves at the Denver Nuggets This story will be updated.

Paige Bueckers out for Wings-Liberty on Friday as she deals with back injury
Paige Bueckers is out for Friday's game between the Dallas Wings and New York Liberty as she deals with tightness in her back. Head coach Chris Koclanes said on Thursday that he expected her to play, even though the No. 1 overall pick skipped practice. She was listed as questionable on the injury report. Dallas' franchise player exited the third quarter of the Wings' 85-76 loss to the Liberty on Tuesday. Post-game, Bueckers told the Associated Press, "I was just dribbling the ball and just felt a tightness come along." "It's day to day. I'm hoping it won't take me out. Just get some treatment, get some rest. I think it's just a pulled muscle. I felt a strain, felt it tighten, so I am just getting it worked out." After receiving treatment, Bueckers returned in the fourth quarter and finished the game with 21 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Although the expectations are high for the former UConn star, the Wings have struggled, entering the Liberty rematch with an 8-22 record, 12th in the WNBA standings. Nevertheless, Bueckers has been putting up solid numbers, averaging 18.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 5.4 assists per game. She has scored at least 20 points in Dallas' last four outings despite losing their last three games. Bueckers leads the struggling Wings in points, assists and steals. The Wings are facing a Liberty team that has been performing poorly for their standards in recent weeks. After a 13-6 start to their campaign, the defending WNBA champions went on a four-game skid before stringing wins over the Connecticut Sun and the Wings. The Liberty own a 19-10 record and are second in the WNBA behind the Minnesota Lynx, who have a comfortable 25-5 standing.

Chivu Cautiously Optimistic After Inter Milan Beat Monaco In Friendly: ‘Good Match, But Results Don't Matter In Preseason'
Inter Milan coach Cristian Chivu is satisfied with his team's performance in a preseason friendly win over Monaco. The Nerazzurri coach spoke to InterTV after the friendly win, via FCInterNews. He also added that 'results don't matter' in preseason matches. The Nerazzurri had to do it the hard way, though. Firstly, Monaco went ahead within a couple minutes. Maghnes Akliouche took the lead within two minutes for the host. Then, Hakan Calhanoglu got a straight red card for a late tackle. However, Inter came back in the first half. Firstly, Nerazzurri captain Lautaro Martinez equalized. Then, summer signing Age-Yoan Bonny got on the scoresheet to complete the comeback. Chivu: 'Good Match' For Inter Vs Monaco In 2-1 Friendly Win SEATTLE, WASHINGTON – JUNE 21: Cristian Chivu, Head Coach of FC Internazionale Milano, reacts during the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 group E match between FC Internazionale Milano and Urawa Red Diamonds at Lumen Field on June 21, 2025 in Seattle, Washington. (Photo by) Inter Milan coach Cristian Chivu said after the fixture that 'it's a preseason match.' 'Legs aren't quiet working the way they should yet,' the coach admitted. 'But it was a good test of our abilities.' 'We need to get some minutes in,' Chivu continued. 'Because time is running out.' Chivu noted that 'there are just seventeen days to go before the start of the season.' 'I'll take the character from the team, and the desire to turn the match around despite the difficulties we had playing with ten men.' 'It's hard to analyze,' said Chivu. 'Because we're not at our best physically.' 'But we gained some intensity. Obviously, we're still lacking some technical brilliance and a clinical edge in front of goal.' 'We had some clear chances in front of goal,' Chivu added. The Inter coach also admitted that 'I don't much care about the result.' 'I don't want to win a trophy in August,' he declared. 'I'm interested in the team gaining confidence and fuel for the challenges to come.'
