Nebraska volleyball adds an all-conference opposite hitter to the roster for 2025
The Nebraska volleyball team has added an all-conference opposite hitter to its roster. Two-time All-Big 12 selection Allie Sczech will join the Huskers for the 2025 season.
The Texas native played three seasons at Baylor and has one year of remaining eligibility. Head coach Dani Busboom Kelly believes that Sczech has a big arm that can contribute to the Cornhuskers this fall.
"Allie is a great person who has been all in on joining our program even through the coaching transition, which says a lot about her character and commitment to becoming a Husker. Allie is a proven and experienced player at this level and has a big left arm. We are very much looking forward to Allie's arrival on campus next month."
Last season, she averaged 2.44 kills per set with a .273 hitting percentage. She also totaled 80 digs and 72 blocks. The Texan earned a gold medal with Team USA at the 2023 Pan American Cup in Nogales, Mexico. Sczech will earn dual degrees in corporate communication and journalism in May 2025.

Insider believes Steelers' T.J. Watt will become highest-paid defender

The Steelers appear to be laser focused on making T.J. Watt the highest-paid defender in the NFL — at least that's what insider Jeremy Fowler believes. On Sunday's episode of ESPN's SportsCenter, Fowler claimed that the Steelers remain optimistic in contract negotiations, while Watt could usurp the title of highest-paid defender — a title Browns DE Myles Garrett holds: "Steelers, I'm sensing are optimistic they can reach a deal with Watt eventually," Fowler said. "My sense is that he will probably be the highest-paid pass-rusher in the league when this is all said and done. He wants to be a Steeler for life, the Steelers want that, he's a legacy-type player. "They believe at 30 years old he still has several good years left. They're just gonna have to come up with a number and a good guarantee structure. He did miss minicamp, so Pittsburgh has a lot of work to do. But typically, Pittsburgh perks up in these things around training camp and late July." Fowler's comments mirror those of insider Jesse Palmer — who predicted last week that Watt could surpass Garrett's $40 million per year. However, insider Ian Rapoport quickly shot down the buzz, claiming he hadn't heard that exact number being discussed. These insights will continue to fluctuate until Watt puts pen to paper — which is hopefully soon, as July's training camp continues to inch closer. Jaden Akins looking for next opportunity following being unselected in NBA Draft

Former Spartan Jaden Akins went unselected in NBA Draft this week -- so what's next for him? Here's the latest on Akins What's next for former Spartans star Jaden Akins? That's still an unanswered question following the NBA Draft. Akins went unselected during the 2025 NBA Draft this week, with the lone Spartan selected being Jase Richardson by the Orlando Magic with the No. 25 overall pick. Akins wasn't expected to be selected in the two rounds of the NBA Draft, but there was always an outside chance someone would take a flier on him. So what's next for Akins now? Well, we should be seeing him picked up by a team as an undrafted free agent ahead of the NBA summer league. Oddly, though, we haven't seen Akins sign anywhere yet -- which I personally expected to happen by the end of the weekend. Akins started all 72 of the Spartans' games over the last two seasons, averaging double-digits in scoring in both years and providing stellar defensive presence as well. He is slightly undersized for the NBA, though, which ultimately hurt his professional stock in the NBA. Akins worked out for a few teams during the pre-draft process, including the Utah Jazz and Milwaukee Bucks, so we should keep our eyes out for either of those teams signing him for summer league play. I anticipate he will be getting a chance to show what he has at the next level during summer league, and we should hopefully hear of a signing in the next week.
