Indian all-party delegation wraps up Saudi visit, calls it 'productive'

Panda also said, 'We have had very fruitful discussions in Saudi Arabia and other countries we have visited. Here in Riyadh, we have met senior officials, leaders, media, and of course, the Indian diaspora.'
The Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia also shared a post on X, saying the visit had strengthened the shared resolve between India and Saudi Arabia to combat terrorism.

Speaking to PTI, Panda said, 'We have very clearly conveyed India's position and the threat that we have faced from cross-border terrorism. India has a deep relationship with Saudi Arabia... Stands taken on terrorism are the same.'
The delegation met with members of the Indian community during this visit, acknowledging their role in India's growth. Saudi Arabia's consistent support in standing against acts of terrorism was equally appreciated, the Indian Embassy said in a statement on Thursday.
'Our Indian diaspora in Saudi Arabia continues to make India proud through its success, contributions & standing in local society. Today, our all-party delegation engaged with them, sharing India's united national stance, the success of Operation Sindoor, and our unwavering commitment to combat cross-border terrorism with a zero-tolerance approach,' Panda said in another post.
The delegation also included All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leader and MP Asaduddin Owaisi, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, Rajya Sabha MP and former National Commission for Women chairperson Rekha Sharma, BJP MP Phangnon Konyak, and Satnam Singh Sandhu. Ghulam Nabi Azad, ex-J&K CM, was also part of this delegation but had to be hospitalised following the Bahrain visit of the multi-country trip.
Nishikant Dubey, while interacting with the media, said, 'Saudi Arabia acknowledged cross-border terrorism. We met a lot of people here, and everyone stands with India in our fight against terrorism. I can guarantee that Pakistan will not be spared anymore if it tries to attack us again.'
Ambassador Harsh Vardhan Shringla, also part of the delegation, said on X that he felt honoured to address representatives of the 2.7 million-strong Indian diaspora in Riyadh on the calculated nature of the recent cross-border terror attack in Pahalgam, and how India's 'New Normal' deals with such threats.
Before arriving in Riyadh on Tuesday, the group had visited Bahrain and Kuwait.
This team is one of seven multi-party delegations that India has deployed to 33 global capitals to highlight Pakistan's involvement in terrorism to the world.

Opposition meet to pick V-P candidate remains inconclusive, another round of parleys on August 19
The meeting of INDIA bloc leaders on Monday (August 18, 2025) at Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge's official residence to decide the Opposition candidate for the Vice-President's post remained inconclusive. 'A meeting of leaders of all Opposition parties in Parliament will be held at 12:30 PM tomorrow Tuesday Aug 19th at 10, Rajaji Marg,' Congress communications chief Jairam Ramesh said in a post on X. The Opposition bloc is likely to announce its choice on Tuesday (August 19, 2025). According to sources, the Congress president, who is also the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Rajya Sabha, was committed to fielding a candidate and not conceding without a contest. On Sunday night, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had reached out to the leaders of some Opposition parties, including Mr. Kharge for unanimously electing the new Vice-President. Sources said the Opposition wants to field a non-political face who has national standing and stature for the second-highest constitutional position in the country. The vice-presidential election, necessitated by the sudden resignation of incumbent Jagdeep Dhankhar last month, is scheduled for September 9. The last date for filing nominations is August 21. Though no name was finalised, several possible candidates were considered. According to sources, on DMK's suggestion, Indian scientist Mylswamy Annadurai, who during his tenure at ISRO worked on two of the major missions of ISRO, namely Chandrayaan-1 and Mangalyaan, was also discussed. The Trinamool Congress, however, was of the opinion that it would be 'reactive' to field another Tamilian in response to the NDA's vice-presidential candidate — Maharashtra Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan. Mr. Annadurai hails from the same Kongu region as Mr. Radhakrishnan. His scientific and apolitical background is an advantage. If a consensus on Mr. Annadurai's candidature emerges within the Opposition ranks and if he agrees to contest, it will help the DMK and its allies politically as they will not be seen as 'anti-Tamil' in opposing Mr Radhakrishnan. Another name that is said to have been discussed is Tushar Gandhi, the great-grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, sources claimed. There were also some reservations among RJD and SP leaders about contesting the vice-presidential polls since the numbers are loaded in favour of the NDA. They argued that since the Opposition does not have the requisite numbers, it should let this election go in view of the upcoming Bihar polls, which they argued needs more attention. The SP also argued that the Opposition should focus its energy on its campaign against the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Farmers pay tribute to former Governor Satyapal Malik at Jagadhri Memorial gathering
A memorial gathering was organized today by the Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) Charuni at the Jagadhri grain market in Yamunanagar district to pay tribute to former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satyapal Malik, who passed away recently. The event, attended by a large number of farmers from Haryana, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh, was led by BKU Charuni national president Gurnam Singh Charuni. Farmers strongly criticized the BJP government for denying state honours to Satyapal Malik, alleging that the decision was politically motivated. Speakers recalled that while serving as Governor, Malik openly spoke against the BJP government's policies, supported the farmers' movement, and urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to engage directly with protesting farmers to resolve the agitation. Malik had also condemned the Pulwama terror attack and demanded a transparent investigation, which, according to farmers' leaders, became the reason behind the government's denial of state honours after his demise. 'Any person who speaks for the nation and against the wrong policies of the government is branded as anti-national. The same happened with Satyapal Malik. He never spoke against the nation. Charuni added that it is the government's responsibility to pay tribute to Satyapal Malik with full state honours. The memorial ceremony was presided over by farmer leader Krishan Pal Sudhal and saw participation from several political parties, who also voiced opposition to the government's policies. Leaders announced that on September 14, a united memorial program will be organized in Delhi by all farmers' organizations in Malik's honour. Prominent attendees included BKU's acting state president Karam Singh Mathana, district president Sanju Gundiana, women's state president Suman Hooda, Manoj Nagar from Uttar Pradesh, Happy Harpal from Punjab, Krishan from Kurukshetra, Malkit from Ambala, Vikram Kasana, youth state president Ashok Latwal from Sonipat, Mamta from Rohtak, Same Singh from Rewari, Numberdar from Sirsa, Ranjit from Fatehabad, Narendra Singh from Panchkula, and state media in-charge Sandeep Singroha. Rahul Gandhi to Election Commissioners: Day will come when INDIA bloc will form govt in Bihar as well as Centre
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi warned the chief election commissioner and the two election commissioners of stern action when the INDIA bloc forms a government, asserting that 'vote chori'is an attack on Bharat Mata. Addressing a gathering at Gaya Ji in Bihar on Monday, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha directly attacked Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and election commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi. 'Whatever I say, I do it. You have seen that I don't lie from the stage... these three election commissioners... I want to tell them that it is Modiji's government right now... Tejashwi (Yadav) ji said that you (election commissioners) have taken BJP membership and are working for them,' he said. 'But understand one thing, a day will come when there will be an INDIA bloc government in Bihar and Delhi; then we will take action against the three of you... You've stolen (vote) from the whole country,' Gandhi said as he wound up the second day of the Voter Adhikar Yatra with RJD's Tejashwi Yadav by his side.. 'Election commissioners must hear out that if they don't do their job, there will be strict action against them,' Gandhi asserted. In a blistering attack on the Election Commission, Gandhi also said that the poll body had brought in a 'new special package' for Bihar, which is named SIR (special intensive revision), a 'new form of vote theft,' just like the special package Prime Minister Narendra Modi talks about. He said the Election Commission was asking him to file an affidavit even after the poll panel's "vote theft" had been caught. 'I want to tell the EC that the whole country will ask you to give an affidavit. Give us some time, we will catch your theft in every assembly and Lok Sabha seat, and put it before the people,' he said. "What did they do? Like PM (Narendra) Modi ji talks of a special package, the EC has brought a new special package for Bihar named SIR, which means a new form of vote theft," Gandhi added. The leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha made the remarks a day after Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar gave him a seven-day ultimatum to submit a signed affidavit to back his claims; otherwise, the allegations would be considered baseless and invalid. In his first press conference after Gandhi levelled allegations of 'vote chori' in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and several opposition leaders flagged issues about the revision of electoral rolls in Bihar, CEC Kumar asked the Congress leader to either apologise or back his claims with a signed affidavit as required under electoral rules. "Give an affidavit or apologise to the nation. There is no third option. If an affidavit is not given within seven days, this means that all allegations are baseless," said Kumar on Sunday, flanked by Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi.
