New ‘Street Fighter Live-Action' film reveals cast including Andrew Koji, Jason Momoa and Callina Liang
The upcoming film is directed by Kitao Sakurai, who has taken over from Danny and Michael Philippou, with a release planned for 2026 through Legendary and Sony. The project is co-developed and co-produced with Capcom, the developer of the original video game series.
While the film's plot remains under wraps, casting announcements have steadily emerged. David Dastmalchian will portray the series' iconic villain M. Bison, while Orville Peck will appear as Vega. Callina Liang has been cast as Chun-Li, and Andrew Schulz will play Dan Hibiki.
These additions join an ensemble that includes Andrew Koji as Ryu, Noah Centineo as Ken, Jason Momoa as Blanka, Cody Rhodes as Guile, Roman Reigns as Akuma, and Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson as Balrog.
Street Fighter was launched in 1987 and has since become one of the most recognisable fighting game franchises globally, selling over 55 million units.
The games typically focus on a worldwide fighting tournament organised by M. Bison, leader of the criminal group Shadaloo, with a diverse lineup of martial artists competing in intense one-on-one battles.
The live-action adaptation aims to bring this dynamic energy to the screen while introducing new audiences to the characters and storylines.

Sony hikes annual profit forecast by 4%, citing smaller trade war impact
TOKYO: Sony raised its full-year operating profit forecast on Thursday by 4% to 1.33 trillion yen ($9.01 billion), citing a diminished impact from U.S. President Donald Trump's trade war. In May, Sony forecast a profit of 1.28 trillion yen, factoring in a 100 billion yen hit from the tariffs. The Japanese conglomerate has transformed from a maker of household electronics such as the Walkman to an entertainment behemoth spanning games, movies, music and chips. Sony reported a 36.5% rise in operating profit to 340 billion yen for the April-June quarter, beating an estimate of 288 billion yen from eight analysts surveyed by LSEG.

Tom Holland's Spider-Man goes retro in ‘Brand New Day'
Tom Holland's Spider-Man is returning with a fresh yet familiar look in the upcoming film Spider-Man: Brand New Day. In a video posted to Instagram on August 2, Holland unveiled the new Spider-suit, which features distinct nods to early comic book designs from the 1960s and 70s. With the high-tech Stark suits now out of reach following the events of No Way Home, Peter Parker is truly going back to basics. The new suit sports bright blue panels, black webbing, and red accents, a style reminiscent of Steve Ditko's original 1962 design, later refined by John Romita Sr. and Sal Buscema. Gone are the nano-tech gadgets and flashy Iron Spider enhancements; instead, this version looks hand-stitched and grounded, perfectly suited to a Peter Parker now living alone, broke, and working freelance for a New York tabloid. The aesthetic shift supports the film's direction, which appears to embrace a more stripped-down, character-driven narrative. The title Brand New Day itself is a callback to a controversial comic arc from 2008 that rebooted Peter's story, erasing past relationships and restoring his anonymity. This echoes the ending of No Way Home, where a magical reset made everyone, including MJ and Ned, forget Peter's existence. Fans have already begun drawing comparisons between the new suit and Romita Sr.'s legendary artwork in The Amazing Spider-Man #106 (1975) and Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man #1 (1976). The design features large white eyes rimmed in black and ditches the webbing under the arms, staying faithful to the era when Spider-Man's look was fully cemented in pop culture history. Marvel and Sony have yet to reveal major plot details for Brand New Day, but the costume alone suggests a tonal shift toward the grounded storytelling that first made the character a relatable icon. With a more vulnerable Peter Parker at the centre and a suit that reflects his humble circumstances, the upcoming film could mark a refreshing return to the hero's roots.

A cryptic nine-second teaser has turned Spider-Man Day into full-blown chaos. Posted to X by the official Spider-Man Movie account, the clip showcases a zoomed-in shot of Tom Holland's latest Spider-Man suit, sparking immediate online frenzy over what's being dubbed his most comic-accurate costume yet. Set against the caption 'Something brand new is coming', the video reveals raised black webbing and vibrant red-and-blue tones, design cues that appear to nod to the classic Spider-Man look, specifically from the Raimi era. The subtle tweaks weren't missed. Fans quickly pounced on the details, flooding X with theories and thirst-posts. 'That looks like Toby's suit!' one user wrote. The teaser confirms the title Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which hits theatres on July 31, 2026. The film will be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and sees Tom Holland reprise his role alongside returning cast members Zendaya and Jacob Batalon. The trending hashtag #RAISEDWEBBING quickly overtook X, joined by meme-fuelled pleas like 'DONT TEASE ME I CAN'T HOLD IT ANY LONGERR.'
