A gorgeous new Greek restaurant is now open on Woolloomooloo Finger Wharf

Akti, a gorgeous new Greek restaurant by the family-owned-and-operated Sydney Restaurant Group – who are behind waterfront spots Aqua Dining, Ormeggio at The Spit, Sails, Ripples Chowder Bay and more – is now open on Woolloomooloo Finger Wharf. The harbourside diner, which has taken over the space previously occupied by seafood restaurant Manta, celebrates the Drakopoulos family's heritage, serving up the flavours of Greece with a modern spin.
Akti joins a slew of new Greek restaurants to open in Sydney of late (hello, Olympus, Olympic Meats and Ammos) – proving our love of creamy taramasalata, fresh, crunchy horiatiki and caramelised, slow-roasted lamb shoulder is showing no signs of slowing down.
Founder of Sydney Restaurant Group, Bill Drakopoulos, says: 'Akti brings new energy to a space as quintessentially Sydney as the harbourside Finger Wharf, which is heritage-listed and significantly where many Greek migrants first arrived by steamship in the 1950s.
'We are paying homage to this shared heritage, with the new venue embodying the Greek tradition of filoxenia – wholehearted hospitality,' he adds.
Leading the kitchen at Akti is Ntinos Fotinakis, who comes from Bungalow7 in Athens, as well as head chef Robert Judd, who's worked at Hellenika at The Calile, as well as SK Steak & Oyster.
Begin with soft, handmade pita alongside Kalamata olives, fava, tarama, tzatziki and melitzanosalata (a smoky eggplant and garlic dip), as well as moussaka croquettes, and saganaki with smoked lemon and oregano. More substantial dishes include grilled king prawns with gremolata and lemon; lamb shoulder with chimichurri; and pork belly souvlaki with yoghurt and pita. For dessert, a riff on galaktoboureko sees thin, crisp pastry layered with creamy milk custard into a showstopping delight.
The drinks menu features hard-to-find Greek wines, as well as innovative and well-balanced cocktails crafted by Nicola Drakopoulos – like the Meet Me at Akti, made with Aperol, Limoncello, clarified guava and pistachio, and Kalimera, Baby, a tzatziki-inspired drink with dill vodka, pepper vodka, cucumber, mint and Greek yoghurt. Martini lovers should try Before 9, a savoury tipple with EVOO fat-washed vodka, clarified celery, cherry tomato, Kalamata olives and spices.
Forget the whitewashed walls of Greek homes – Akti evokes the warm glow of an Aegean sunset, decked out in soft peaches, pinks and yellows, with the design overseen by Perry Drakopoulos. Plush seats, coastal-kitsch trinkets and beautiful lamps inject colour and life into the space. Chic white umbrellas provide shade for sun-soaked lunches, and we're a big fan of the small bar area that's perfect for casual drop-ins.
These are the best Greek restaurants in Sydney right now.

Etihad Airways expands network to 300+ global destinations

Whether you're planning a quick getaway or long-haul adventure, flying in and out of the UAE just got even easier. Etihad Airways has revealed that it is expanding its global reach through a wave of new airline partnerships, which will allow travellers to reach more than 300 destinations globally. The Abu Dhabi-based airline now has more than 40 codeshare partners in its network, which allows it to make flights on other airlines available via their own channels, giving travellers more options when booking their next dream holiday. The national carrier links travellers to more than 100 destinations on its own network and over 300 worldwide when you factor in its codeshare partners. This puts the UAE capital firmly on the map as one of the most accessible cities on the planet. Among its most recent tie-ups? Ethiopian Airlines, Azul Brazliian Airlines, China Eastern Airlines, Air Europa, and Akasa Air, which serve Ethiopia, Brazil, China, Spain and India, respectively. These agreements join an already impressive line-up that includes Air Seychelles, Portugal's TAP and Greek carrier Sky Express. Etihad's loyalty programme also happens to be one of the largest of any non-alliance airline, with 25 partner carriers allowing frequent flyers to earn and spend rewards across hundreds of global routes. More global carriers are expected to tap into the capital's potential in the months ahead, so stay tuned. Arik De, chief revenue and commercial officer at Etihad Airways, said: 'Every partnership we build strengthens the connectivity, choice and experience for our guests, while positioning Abu Dhabi as a key world destination. 'Through our strategic partnerships, we have brought major international airlines such as Ethiopian Airlines, China Eastern Airlines, Air Seychelles, Air Europa and Akasa Air to Abu Dhabi. 'These partnerships are not only expanding access to critical markets such as China, North America, Africa and Europe, they are also contributing directly to the growth of Abu Dhabi's tourism, affirming the city's role as a hub for innovation, tourism and global business.' Danone shares shine after Q2 sales beat expectations thanks to strong China

PARIS, July 30 (Reuters) - Danone ( opens new tab shares rose as much as 7% on Wednesday after it delivered second-quarter sales that beat expectations, boosted by strong demand in China for infant milk formula and medical nutrition products. That largely outpaced weakness in the water segment in Latin America due to rainy and cold weather in Mexico, and coffee creamer sales still sluggish in a competitive U.S. market. The French consumer goods group, whose brands include Evian and Badoit water and Activia yoghurt, said second-quarter sales rose 4.1% on a like-for-like basis, beating expectations of a 3.8% increase in a company-provided analysts' consensus. Danone's recurring operating income for the first half of 2025 was 1.811 billion euros ($2.09 billion), with a margin of 13.2% of sales against 12.7% a year ago. The company reiterated that its full-year 2025 forecast was in line with its mid-term ambition of like-for-like sales growth of between 3% and 5%, with recurring operating income growing faster than sales. The first-half performance reflected "the strength and resilience of our health-focused portfolio," said CEO Antoine de Saint-Affrique. "The name of the game for us is performing consistently while transforming and fixing what needs to be fixed," he added, citing the plant-based business and coffee creamers in the United States. By 0807 GMT Danone shares were up 6.6% at 70.72 euros. "This is a reassuring update," Jefferies analysts said in a note. "The notably strong beat in China Nutrition will quash worries that the category competitiveness is less favorable. It suggests that Danone continues to be a winner in this region, while others struggle." China, North Asia and Oceania had another stellar quarter, with sales up 12.4% like-for-like. Specialized Nutrition recorded double-digit growth, driven by strong growth both in Infant Milk Formula and Medical Nutrition. In North America sales rose 2.3% in the quarter, driven by double-digit growth in protein products such as the Oikos brand Greek yoghurt, while coffee creamers were progressively recovering following supply chain issues in the first quarter. Danone has been using some of its cash for acquisitions to boost its focus on health and science, and build resilience to a volatile environment. It recently bought the Akkermansia Company, a Belgian biotics firm, and took a majority stake in Kate Farms, a U.S. plant-based maker of organic formula and shakes. "We don't stop there," Saint-Affrique told analysts. "There are more acquisitions to come. We are working on a number of things." ($1=0.8654 euros)

Kitchen Kings Blackwood a smash burger business that has taken the high street by storm! (Image: NQ) The business popped up on the street back in March this year but has humble beginnings upgrading from a burger van parked outside the local gym. We decided to plate up at Kitchen Kings and 'grill' the brains behind the business. Owners Tommie Webb 27, and Will Davies 28 stepped up to the challenge. Speaking about their business Will said: 'It just skyrocketed from the beginning, we grew up together and are best friends but never imagined it would turn out like this, but we've always had faith in the business.' Then we got our van and we started outside the gym.' Will added: 'It was my dad's fish shop in Newbridge, I started in the fish shop, but I've always had a head for business and my wanted by own business. 'We got together had the idea of getting a burger van that was in November.' Kitchen King dynamic duo Tommie Webb and Will Davies (Image: NQ) Together the boys have accumulated 10K followers on Facebook and dominated the Blackwood Highstreet. Huge queues each day can be seen leading out of the shop which has a great selection of food for hungry customers. However, the boys acknowledged they couldn't have done it alone. Will said: 'We couldn't have done it without our staff, our team are great, and the community support has been immense.' An epic munch box filled with smash beef burgers and cheese, chicken wing bites, loaded fries with pulled pork and all dripping with cheese sauce (Image: NQ) So, what's on the menu? The business is best known for smash‑style double patties, loaded fries and jackets, Korean BBQ‑style chicken, tacos, wraps, rice boxes, and refreshing drink options. Whilst at Kitchen Kings I dug into a 'Munch Box.' In my munch box I was spotlit for choice. From crispy lean chicken tenders to BBQ pulled pork loaded fries all topped off with two huge smash burgers dripping in cheese and as if that wasn't enough, a giant cheese dip. I was absolutely stuffed! Crunchy and tender chicken bites from Kitchen Kings Blackwood (Image: NQ) This was all priced at £25 and can only be described as 'lush.' One customer even said, 'They'd give the Beefy Boys a run for their money!' The restaurant is normally open from 11am-around 10pm. Would you eat here??
