
Two men charged with murder after boy, four, killed in pick-up truck crash
Two men have been charged with murder after a four-year-old boy was killed in a crash between two pickup trucks.
Peter Maughan was killed in the crash on New Barn Road, Dartford, which has also left his dad, 24, fighting for his life.
His one-year-old baby sister was also taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Police were called to the scene around 9.30pm on June 1, and all three victims, who were from the same vehicle, were taken to hospital.
Patrick Maughan, 53, and Owen Maughan, 27, have been charged with murder.
Tributes have poured in for Peter, who was known as Peter Rabbit, saying his death was 'the saddest thing they heard'.
One friend wrote: 'Rest in peace Peter Rabbit please everyone keep them in your prayers it's a cruel world.' More Trending
Kent Police said: 'Three people from the same vehicle were taken to hospital. A four year old boy died at the hospital and a 24 year old man remains in hospital in a critical condition. A one year old girl received minor injuries.
'On Monday 2 June 2025, officers arrested two men in connection with the incident, a 27 year old from Darenth and a 53 year old from Swanley.
'They remain in custody while enquiries continue to establish the circumstances surrounding the collision.
'Detectives would also like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the collision involving two grey Ford Rangers.'

Teenager killed in Sheffield hit-and-run named
A teenager who died in a hit-and-run crash in Sheffield has been named as Abdullah Yaha Al-Zaidy. The 16-year-old, better known as "Abdul", was walking along the pavement on Staniforth Road in Darnall when he was hit by a grey Audi car at 4.50pm on Wednesday. The driver of the car, who also collided with an e-bike, left the scene. Abdul died in hospital. The 18-year-old man on the e-bike suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries. A 20-year-old man was arrested in Kent on suspicion of murder on Thursday. Three other people have been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. In a post announcing Abdul's death, the Facebook page South Yorkshire Janazah Announcement described him as a "beloved member of the Al-Shafeey Centre mosque". It added: "He was reportedly walking to a nearby shop to meet his father, with plans to eat together, when the tragic accident occurred. "It is deeply heartbreaking to see his photo — a boy always smiling, always full of joy. He worked tirelessly alongside his father and had plans to begin college soon." Flowers continue to be left at the scene of the incident, which happened two days before the Muslim festival Eid.

Trial date set for father and son accused of murdering boy, 4, in crash

Rochdale: Illegal products found under loo in closed-down shop
A shop has been ordered to close temporarily after illegal vapes and counterfeit tobacco were found on the premises, with some products hidden under a volumes of illegal and potentially dangerous goods were discovered at the Drake Street Food Store, also known as Polski Sklep, in Rochdale, during undercover visits, the local authority shop was also found to have sold foods not labelled in English and toys that did not meet safety standards, it added.A Rochdale Council spokesperson said that since June 2024, they had seized more than 33,000 fake cigarettes and 26kg of hand-rolled tobacco during a series of undercover visits there.
