Luis Diaz leaves Liverpool training camp to finalise Bayern Munich move
Diaz was given permission to leave and has now departed Tokyo, where the team are preparing for Wednesday's match against Yokohama F. Marinos, for Germany.
The forward, who turns 29 in January, had been pushing for a move since last summer and after two attempts to agree an extension to the two years he has remaining on his contract failed due to the gap in expectations, Liverpool reluctantly accepted his departure was inevitable – but only for a suitable price.
Hugo Ekitike's arrival last week means the club have already bolstered their attacking options and they maintain an interest in Newcastle's wantaway striker Alexander Isak.
The completion of the sale of Diaz, who cost the club £42m plus £3.4m in add-ons, will see Liverpool's income from transfers in the last year top £190m.

The Reds ramp up their preparations for the new campaign with a pre-season friendly against Athletic Bilbao in five days' time and Ngumoha will no doubt be hoping to get some more minutes under his belt in front of a home crowd at Anfield. Asked how happy he was with Ngumoha's impact off the bench, Slot told reporters: 'He wasn't the only one that impacted the game from the bench because Trey Nyoni also scored, assisted by Jeremie Frimpong. 'In the first goal, I think Curtis Jones played a big part by winning the ball in the midfield. 'Rio, again, showed the quality that he has and that's nice for us because we have a lot of very good players, but to get some very good players from the academy is always helpful. It always gives energy to a team as well. 'It's always nice to see players at 17, 18, 19 years old already impacting a game, but there was also a moment in the game where he should have squared it to [Alexis] Mac Allister or Curtis so there are also learning points for him. 'But yeah, if you're 16 and you can impact a game like he did then that's definitely worth a compliment.' Slot was pleased that Liverpool managed to come away from the 'intense' contest with a win, but felt there were certain areas they must look to improve before facing Athletic Bilbao. 'It was a good game against an opponent that is already in the middle of the season and is used to the circumstances over here,' the Liverpool head coach added. 'They made it an intense game for us which is always nice to have in pre-season because this is also what we're looking for. 'What want to have teams that can really compete with us and they were definitely one of them. 'We've seen a few very positive things. For example, coming back after going 1-0 down. It's a thing we did last season a lot of times, seeing players from the bench impacting the game. 'More than a few times, there were very good moments in build-up, but what I also saw in the goal we conceded and in the first half, a big chance we conceded, is that we had to work harder in those moments and that also happened against AC Milan. 'It could be to do with the tough training camp, it could be to do with the heat. But that's something we definitely have to improve towards Bilbao, who we have as our next opponent.' While being immensely proud of Liverpool's success last season, Slot's 'full focus' is now on the upcoming campaign. 'I had quite a long holiday and because we won the league quite early I could enjoy it for quite a long time,' the Dutchman continied. 'But I think the moment we started again, that was also the moment stop thinking about last season. 'You guys can still enjoy it, but we now need to prepare ourselves for the upcoming season and, therefore, there are no moments to enjoy what we did last season. 'Our full focus is now on this season and how I and we prepare for another tough season. 'Last season was already tough, but if you look at what all the Premier League clubs are doing, the Premier League is going to get even stronger than last season. 'We need to be ready for that, that's what my full focus is on at the moment and over the last few weeks. 'We are making steps forward but I also don't forget that I went to Wembley last season and had to look at Newcastle winning a trophy and in two weeks we go there again so I hope we show a different face in that final than we did in the Carabao Cup final.' United director of recruitment Christopher Vivell and negotiator Matt Hargreaves flew out to Germany in a bid to get the deal over the line, although the Old Trafford club will try to negotiate Leipzig's asking price down. Vivell was previously with the Red Bull group that owns Leipzig and Sesko's previous club Salzburg for seven years and knows the 6ft 5in striker, 22, well. The Red Devils have already signed Matheus Cunha from Wolves and Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo, but Ruben Amorim is open to adding more firepower to his side following the club's dire 2024/25 campaign. The highly rated Sesko looks set to move on after Leipzig missed out on Champions League football. United will be absent from European football completely this season, but that is not thought to have put the Slovenian off. Sesko is reportedly favouring a move to Old Trafford over Newcastle, who are also in the market for a top forward, with Liverpool-linked Alexander Isak angling for a move away from Tyneside. According to The Athletic, Sesko is Man United's priority if they go for another striker this summer and they are said to have made 'informal' contact with Leipzig. The Red Devils are also admirers of Ollie Watkins, although Aston Villa have insisted the 29-year-old is not for sale. A move for Sesko looks more realistic, with United also favouring a player of potential over a proven quality like Watkins. United have been linked with Sesko in the past, but they balked at paying his previous club, RB Salzburg, around £2m in 2019. He will now cost many times more after emerging as one of the most promising strikers in Europe, scoring 39 goals in 87 appearances for Leipzig since his arrival in 2023. His current contract runs until 2029, having only signed a new deal last year. It reportedly came with an understanding that he would be allowed to depart if another club offered in the region of £69m to £78m. Untied's signings will need to be offset by some outgoings, with a number of players declaring their desire to leave the club. Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia were left out of the tour of the United States, with the so-called 'bomb squad' training at the club's Carrington complex. Marcus Rashford has joined Barcelona on loan. United's transfer dealings have been widely criticised in recent seasons but Amorim has said chief executive Omar Berrada and sporting director Jason Wilcox would not be taken advantage of just to get rid of those surplus to requirements.
