McCarthy, in my mind, is a first-round talent, and he has great weapons around him.
You have a coach that just seems to make any guy under center perform well.
He puts up decent fantasy stats.
The fact that he's going, you know, a little bit later than these other guys I think, in hindsight, is going to be a mistake.
In the long run, I think he's going to get bumped up right where we're seeing Kayla, but right where we're seeing Mago and Knicks, I think he would be a second-round talent.
It might just take, you know, four weeks into the season, eight weeks into the season, or something before people realize that.
If Sam Darnold can do it in this offense, I'm sorry, not to be a Sam Darnold hater, but if Sam Darnold, after the career he had leading up to that point, was able to produce like that, what is McCarthy going to do in this offense?
Yeah, like, it's like hits to some degree, right?
And I think obviously where they fell in this draft really kind of perfectly encapsulates that.
And, you know, you can say like, you're apologizing for your Sam Darnold, like if he did it, then JJ McCarthy can do it.
The entire industry is saying like, this was less about Darnold and more about what Kevin O'Connell is giving you, and I don't think you could find anybody out there that's got anything bad to say about the way O'Connell designs offenses, the players that they have locked in there for multiple years, like you have the best receiver in football in Justin Jefferson and you just keep going back and charting Jefferson pretty recently for RP, it's like, man, they just do so much to get that guy free, you know, to get him away from, I mean, it's hard to get him away from double coverage, and you know, cloud coverage, and, you know, two-high safety and stuff like that, but they do a lot to get him free on downfield concepts and, you know, Sam Darnold, to his credit, was willing and able to take and make those throws.
We'll see if JJ McCarthy is that guy, but I mean, even if he's not a, I don't know, like an elite quarterback or becomes a guy that is, pushing for top-10 finishes, uh, like in these NFL rankings and stuff like that.
If he's merely a good starting quarterback, it's going to be hard for him to fail from a fantasy perspective in this offense.

The playlists of the rich and famous: What the people in power really groove to

The top minds love the top 40. If you've wondered which tech titan likes to 'Get His Freak On' to Missy Elliot after a long day coding, or who leaves the senate blasting hardcore emo, we now have the answer. A new site claims it has been tracking the music tastes of the rich and powerful on streaming services for over a year, publishing the findings Wednesday. Advertisement Called Panama Playlists, the site reveals Millennial Veep JD Vance apparently has a Making Dinner list featuring Justin Bieber's One Time and Backstreet Boys 'I Want It That Way'. But unlike 'YMCA'-loving President Trump, Vance also rocks out with emo group Death Cab for Cutie in his music cabinet, listed on in his 'Gold On the Ceiling' playlist (named for the Black Keys song, a group from his native Ohio), according to the Panama Playlists. 12 Vice President JD Vance apparently has a Making Dinner playlist that features Backstreet Boys 'I Want It That Way,' according to a site that went live on Wednesday called Panama Playlists. / MEGA Advertisement 12 Vance's apparent Making Dinner playlist also includes Justin Bieber's 'One Time.' And when he's not building AI data fortress Stargate, OpenAI CEO's Sam Altman streams the aforementioned 'Get Your Freak On,' per his 'My Shazam Tracks' on Spotify. Advertisement How can the anonymous poster behind the Panama Playlists be sure he's got the correct tech titans, media mavens and political appointees? 'Many use their real names. With a little sleuthing, I could say with near-certainty: yep, this is them,' the anonymous eavesdropper told The Post. 12 Attorney General Pam Bondi is a fan of Foreigner's 'Cold As Ice,' according to her self-titled Spotify playlist 'Pam,' per the Panama Playlists' site. The Panama Playlists poster made clear the project is in no way affiliated with the streaming services it tracked, while Spotify pointed out all its users' playlists are public by default when contacted. Here are some of the highlights and a few eyebrow raisers from the various lists. Soothing sounds and soft rock When House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La), isn't presiding over lawmaker drama, he's apparently listening to the soothing sounds of David Tolk's new age piano composition 'Peace.' Alongside rocking out, Vance also has a softer side — a love of Sheryl Crow's 'Strong Enough,' and Whitney Houston's 'I Wanna Dance With Somebody,' according to Panama Playlists. Meanwhile beloved 'TODAY' weatherman Al Roker can forecast a flood warning — and jam out to Elton John's 'Philadelphia Freedom,' his No. 1 song played a whopping 151 times on Spotify. Politics and pop princesses Jacob Helberg, President's Trump's pick for undersecretary of state for growth, energy and the environment, is apparently as invested in Chappell Roan and Charli XCX as today's Gen Z and millennial concert go-ers. (A stark juxtaposition from husband, Keith Rabois', house heavy love of Deadmau5's 'When Summer Dies'). But he also keeps tracks more in line with his worldview, with Donald Glover's 'This Is America,' about racism and gun violence also included.

AJ Barner sends Sam Darnold warning ahead of QB's first Seahawks season

The post AJ Barner sends Sam Darnold warning ahead of QB's first Seahawks season appeared first on ClutchPoints. Sam Darnold parlayed his career-best season with the Minnesota Vikings in 2024 into a three-year, $100.5 million contract with the Seattle Seahawks this offseason. Now Seattle is hoping Darnold can build on last season's success and lead the team back to the playoffs for the first time since 2022. Seahawks tight end AJ Barner is a believer. 'He's one of the best quarterbacks in the league, no doubt about it. We're going to show it this year,' Barner said of Darnold, per Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic. 'Sam's been phenomenal… Really takes the time to get with the guys. He's open about communication back and forth about what you see. His timing is really something I've really taken notice of and think he's very, very good at. When he hits his drop and when he sees it, the ball is going to be out before you're out of your break. I'm really excited to work with him,' Barner added. Sam Darnold looks to continue career revival with Seahawks Darnold was selected third overall out of USC by the New York Jets in the 2018 draft. After three underwhelming seasons, the Jets moved on, using the second pick in the 2021 draft on Zach Wilson. Darnold was shipped to the Carolina Panthers where he started 17 games over two seasons, throwing for 3,670 yards with 16 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. In 2023, Darnold landed with the San Francisco 49ers where he backed up Brock Purdy. He then signed a one-year deal with the Vikings in 2024. However, after signing Darnold, Minnesota drafted J.J. McCarthy with the 10th overall pick in that year's draft. The eighth-year veteran hoped to beat out the rookie for the starting job in training camp. But Darnold became the Vikings' QB1 after McCarthy tore his meniscus in the preseason opener. He would go on to record career-highs in passing yards (4,319), touchdowns (35), attempts (545), completions (361) and completion percentage (66.2). Darnold was named to his first Pro Bowl as he led the Vikings to a 14-3 regular season record. However, the team was eliminated in the Wild Card round by the Rams as Darnold struggled in his first ever postseason start. Still, his time working with Kyle Shanahan in San Francisco and Kevin O'Connell in Minnesota seems to have triggered a turnaround. Now the Seahawks hope that trend continues. Seattle traded longtime starter Geno Smith to the Raiders this offseason, making room for Darnold. He'll take over a Seahawks offense featuring third-year wideout Jaxon Smith-Njigba and newcomer Cooper Kupp. Related: DeMarcus Lawrence's drill work leaves Seahawks HC Mike Macdonald astounded Related: Seahawks' Mike Macdonald shuts down question about Noah Fant release

Key Seahawks' Sam Darnold protector undergoes surgery, but there's a catch

The post Key Seahawks' Sam Darnold protector undergoes surgery, but there's a catch appeared first on ClutchPoints. With training camp in full swing and the Seattle Seahawks preparing for their NFL preseason opener against the Las Vegas Raiders, the team's offensive line is facing an early test of its depth. Standout Seattle left tackle Charles Cross recently underwent successful surgery to repair a dislocated finger, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport. Despite the setback, the news comes with a silver lining. Cross is expected to be ready for the start of the regular season. So, for now, Sam Darnold and Seahawks fans can sigh with relief. The 23-year-old Cross had been practicing through the injury before opting for surgery. It underscores his toughness and commitment as the anchor of Seattle's offensive line. With a new offensive system being installed under first-year head coach Mike Macdonald and offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb, Cross's missing any part of training camp is less than ideal, especially given his status as the most experienced member of the unit. The Seahawks should be fine despite Charles Cross's surgery Cross's absence now opens the door for others to step up at left tackle. Veteran Josh Jones is the most likely candidate to get first-team reps. But second-year tackle McClendon Curtis and undrafted rookie Michael Jerrell could also see increased opportunities. It's an important stretch for Seattle to test its depth. It's also significant to evaluate developmental prospects. Originally the No. 9 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, Cross was a first-team All-American and All-SEC selection at Mississippi State. He signed a four-year, $21.38 million contract with the Seahawks that includes a team option for a fifth year. The Seahawks believe in Cross. So, despite the injury, he's a staple on the offensive line. Cross started all 17 games for Seattle in 2024. He's continued to solidify his role as a foundational piece of the offensive line. His return for Week 1 is a crucial piece of stability for a Seahawks team looking to build offensive cohesion early in the Macdonald era.
