Cops stop man from jumping barricade to see Modi in Bengaluru
Bengaluru: City police thwarted what could have potentially been a security-related incident when Prime Minister Narendra Modi's convoy was passing South End Circle, Jayanagar, Sunday. A man attempted to jump a barricade for a closer look at the PM, but the police quickly stopped him and escorted him away. The incident occurred as Modi was travelling from KRS railway station, after flagging off three Vande Bharat trains, to Ragi Gudda Metro station for Yellow Line inauguration. Crowds had gathered in the park at the circle, which is enclosed by a grilled compound, and along the barricaded footpath. Moments later, a few others began running along the footpath. In the commotion, an elderly woman in the crowd was pushed. Another police team rushed to assist her and ensured she was safe. About 200 policemen were stationed at the circle as part of the citywide security arrangements for Modi's visit. A senior officer dismissed any security breach. "The incident at South End Circle was not a lapse. There was no lapse anywhere during the visit. It was a well-managed security arrangement," he said. Bengaluru: Bengaluru must take the lead in building future-ready urban infrastructure to keep pace with the demands of the 21st century, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Sunday, inaugurating key mobility projects in the city. Bengaluru must be prepared for future," Modi said, highlighting that recent years have seen projects worth thousands of crores launched for Bengaluru. He urged the city to strengthen its role in Make in India and manufacturing. "Our next big priority should be becoming self-reliant in technology. India's products must adhere to the Zero Defect, Zero Effect standard," he said. Hailing India's rise as "the fastest-growing major economy in the world", he noted in 11 years, the country has moved from the tenth to the fifth-largest economy and is rapidly progressing toward becoming one of the top three economies. His remarks come days after US President Donald Trump's India is a "dead economy" jibe. Modi linked this growth to the 'Reform, Perform and Transform' approach, and cited rapid infrastructure expansion: Metro networks have grown from five cities in 2014 to over 1,000km in 24 cities today, making India the third-largest network globally. He noted expansion of railway electrification to over 40,000km in the same period, airports from 74 to 160, and national waterways from three to 30. Highlighting Bengaluru's role in India's transformation, Modi pointed to electronics exports rising from $6 billion in 2014 to $38 billion, with India now among the top five mobile handset exporters. Automobile exports have more than doubled, placing India fourth globally. Digital India, he said, now accounts for over half the world's real-time transactions through UPI, with over 2,200 govt services available on mobile. Modi also cited growth in AIIMS (from 7 to 22) and medical colleges (from 387 to 704), along with over one lakh new medical seats. On housing, he said more than 4 crore pucca houses have been provided under PMAY, with 3 crore more planned. Prime Minister flags off first Yellow Line Metro train, services open to public from 6.30am today
Bengaluru: After purple and green, the city's Namma Metro map now boasts a vibrant yellow. The long-awaited 19km elevated corridor from RV Road to Bommasandra, with 16 stations built at a cost of Rs 7,600 crore, was inaugurated Sunday by Prime Minister Narendra Modi , who flagged off the first train from Ragigudda station. Earlier in the day, the PM also launched three Vande Bharat Express trains, including the Bengaluru-Belagavi service, which he said would boost trade and tourism in Belagavi. Services between Nagpur-Pune and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra-Amritsar were also launched. After flagging off the Yellow Line, he boarded the train, travelling to Konappana Agrahara with chief minister Siddaramaiah, deputy CM DK Shivakumar, Bangalore South MP Tejasvi Surya, and other dignitaries. This time, he purchased a QR code ticket using a vending machine at the station. The CM and DCM also used QR tickets for their travel. During the journey, the PM interacted with a group of students who had the rare chance of travelling on the inaugural train. Modi also laid foundation for Phase III of the Metro project — a 45km network covering JP Nagar 4th Phase to Kempapura on the west side of Outer Ring Road, and Hosahalli to Kadabagere on Magadi Road. Bangalore Rural MP CN Manjunath said: "Both the central and state govts together have achieved this. I congratulate both govts. For health purposes, we need BMW — bicycle, Metro and walking.
