KUALA LUMPUR, May 27 (Bernama) – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has described the organisation of the 46th ASEAN Summit, held in the Malaysian capital, as highly commendable and successful.
'Excellent. Very good, very good,' he told the media after attending the 2nd ASEAN-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre here today.
This marks Prabowo's first appearance as head of state at the regional gathering since assuming office as Indonesia's president in October last year.
The 46th ASEAN Summit and related meetings, which began on Monday, bring together Southeast Asian leaders for high-level discussions centred on regional cooperation, economic integration, and geopolitical stability.
Malaysia, as ASEAN Chair for 2025, is also concurrently hosting the second ASEAN-GCC Summit and the inaugural ASEAN-GCC-China Summit, aimed at strengthening inter-regional collaboration.

Marine Viaduct To Be Built To Link Southern Penang With Silicon Island
GEORGE TOWN, June 6 (Bernama) -- A 380-metre marine viaduct connecting southern Penang with Silicon Island will be built and is expected to open to the public by December 2028. Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the four-lane viaduct is a key component of the Pan Island Link 2A (PIL2A) project, which is a strategic infrastructure initiative aimed at strengthening connectivity between Silicon Island and the Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah Bridge or the Second Penang Bridge, as well as supporting the state's long-term urban growth. He said construction work on the viaduct would begin this month, with the first phase expected to be completed by mid-2027 to support the opening of the first factory to operate on Silicon Island in the same year. 'The total cost of PIL2A phase one is RM390 million, covering the construction of 1.5 kilometres of infrastructure connecting the land area at Permatang Damar Laut to Silicon Island, including the construction of a 380-metre permanent marine viaduct. 'The components in PIL2A phase one will also connect Silicon Island with the Second Bridge at Batu Maung Roundabout and the Penang International Airport (LTAPP) through the construction of an elevated highway to improve connectivity,' he told reporters after visiting Silicon Island to see the progress of development there, which has now reached 64.75 hectares. According to Chow, the contractor has completed the construction of a 378-metre temporary bridge to provide access for construction and infrastructure works on Silicon Island, which will have a community hub, including Medan Selera Matang, to be built at Permatang Damar Laut overlooking Silicon Island. He said the initiative is to ensure that those affected by the development project there, especially food stall traders, can be relocated, thus reflecting the state government's commitment and concern. "The development of the community hub on land covering approximately 0.8 hectares will also include a new Village Community Management Council (MPKK) hall, Fishermen's One-Stop Service Centre, food stalls and restaurants, as well as a shed for fishermen," he said. Chow said to support the initial water supply needs of Silicon Island, a suction tank and pump house will be built on land adjacent to Medan Selera Matang, with construction work to commence in the third quarter of this year and is expected to be completed by the end of 2027.

Marfika, a journalist with Bernama's Lifestyle Desk, said that during her four-month stint in China, she saw how deeply AI was woven into daily life and how it proved useful to her as well. 'AI became a part of my daily routine in China, not just as a work tool, but as a personal assistant that just made life easier,' she said. Among the AI applications she found indispensable were Baidu Translate and WeChat Translate, which let her instantly convert Chinese documents into Malay or English using just her phone. She acknowledged that she relied heavily on ChatGPT throughout her four-month assignment, using it to craft interview questions, write photo captions and translate Chinese texts into Malay or English. Reflecting on the challenges she faced in China, Marfika said the language barrier was the most difficult, as most locals had limited proficiency in English.

Bursa Malaysia Ends Slightly Lower Tracking Regional Markets

At 5 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was down 0.08 per cent, or 1.33 points, to 1,516.79 from Thursday's close of 1,518.12. The benchmark index opened at 1,516.91, less 1.21 points, and moved between 1,513.39 and 1,518.71 throughout the trading session. Market breadth was negative, as decliners outnumbered gainers 478 to 325. A total of 529 counters remained unchanged, with 1,014 untraded and 20 suspended. Turnover dropped to 1.92 billion units worth RM1.66 billion compared with Thursday's 2.42 billion units valued at RM2.27 billion. Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd equity research vice-president Thong Pak Leng told Bernama that key regional indices ended mixed as investors remained cautious, awaiting further signals on trade negotiations between the United States (US) and key regional players, especially China. Besides, he said that the weak performance on Wall Street overnight hurt market sentiment globally. Meanwhile, UOB Kay Hian Wealth Advisors Sdn Bhd head of investment research Mohd Sedek Jantan said the FBM KLCI posted a marginal decline, despite Thursday's notable technical rebound, which helped cushion broader losses.
