Wide receiver Terry McLaurin has requested a trade from the Commanders, AP source says
The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the negotiations were private.
McLaurin has been holding in at training camp. The veteran reported to camp Sunday after skipping the first four practices and parts of the offseason program. He remains on the physically unable to perform list with an ankle injury while contract talks continue.
The Commanders reached the NFC championship game last season under first-year coach Dan Quinn and rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels. They added wideout Deebo Samuel in the offseason and are aiming to make a run at the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC East.
McLaurin had 82 catches for 1,096 yards and a career-high 13 touchdowns last season, earning second-team All-Pro honors.

Jermaine Johnson was fully cleared by doctors a little over a week ago. Johnson has been back around the Jets at training camp the past few days, but trainers still haven't given him the okay to make his highly anticipated return to the practice field. First-year head coach Aaron Glenn said on Saturday that they are being cautious with the pass rusher, but the expectation is still that he'll be ready for the regular season opener. 'Everyone has their own protocol -- he understands and he's working his ass off to get back, but we want to make sure we have him for the long haul. 'I've said it before, Week 1 and Week 2 it's all good, but I want to make [sure] that player is ready for the long haul -- and it's not just about him playing, it's about who he is as a person, we just want to make sure he's all good.' Johnson, of course, suffered an Achilles injury in Week 2 last season. He has been making steady progress in his recovery over the past few months, but the team still decided to place him on the PUP list at the beginning of training camp. This is a huge year for Johnson, as he could potentially hit free agency for the first time in his career next offseason after having his fifth-year option picked up just a few months ago. Before the injury, the 26-year-old had established himself as one of the NFL's top edge rushers. He landed his first career Pro Bowl appearance after recording 7.5 sacks, 16 QB hits, 11 tackles for loss, 55 total tackles, 56 pressures, 20 run stops, a pick-six, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery. A return to that dominant form would be a ginormous boost for Gang Green's defense.

Red Sox pitcher Tanner Houck to undergo Tommy John surgery
BOSTON (AP) — Boston Red Sox right-hander Tanner Houck's attempt to come back this season is over. Manager Alex Cora said Saturday that Houck will undergo Tommy John surgery. An All-Star last season, the 29-year-old Houck went on the injured list in mid-May with a right flexor strain after going 0-3 with an 8.04 ERA in nine starts. 'Tanner's going to have Tommy John surgery,' Cora said before the Red Sox faced the Houston Astros at Fenway Park. 'He went to see Dr. Meister there in Texas and that was the recommendation,' Cora said. 'We don't have a date yet, but he's going to have it." Houck had a strong 2024 season, finishing seventh in the American League with a 3.12 ERA in 30 starts, but was only able to make five rehab appearances after going on the IL. 'Tough year for him, tough year for us,' Cora said of the season-ending news. 'But he'll kill the rehab, he'll do his job, and when he comes back, he's going to be OK.' Houck earned his first All-Star appearance by going 8-6 with a 2.54 ERA in the first half. He struggled after the break, going 1-4 with a 4.23 ERA. He worked an inning at the All-Star Game in Texas last year, giving up three hits including a homer to Shohei Ohtani. He's the third Boston starting pitcher to suffer a season-ending injury. Hunter Dobbins tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee covering first base last month and Kutter Crawford underwent right wrist surgery. The team hopes the pickup of righty Dustin May at the trade deadline from the Los Angeles Dodgers will bolster the staff. He's expected to make his first start for the Red Sox on Wednesday at Fenway. 'It was definitely a ride of emotions, up and down,' said May, sitting in the dugout on Saturday of being dealt to Boston. 'Sad leaving because I've been there my whole career, but very, very excited to be joining this organization.' 'I was kid of pushed out,' he said. 'We've got quite a few guys there in that organization. I couldn't be more excited and thrilled to be here and be a part of it.' ___

Guardians add Carlos Hernández to roster and call up prospect C.J. Kayfus from Columbus
CLEVELAND (AP) — The Guardians added right-hander Carlos Hernández to the roster and selected the contract of first baseman/outfielder C.J. Kayfus from Triple-A Columbus before Saturday's game against the Minnesota Twins. To make room for Hernández and Kayfus, left-hander Tim Herrin and outfielder Johnathan Rodríguez were optioned to Columbus. Kayfus — a third-round pick in by the Guardians in the 2003 MLB Draft — made his major-league debut Saturday, batting eighth and playing right field. The 23-year old Kayfus started the season in Double-A Akron before being promoted to Columbus, where he batted .283 with 13 home runs and 43 RBIs. ___
