64 cops promoted over success against Maoists
As many as 64 cops who were part of highly successful anti-Maoist operations of state police between July 2024 and April 2025 were granted out-of-turn promotions at the special promotion decoration ceremony held in Balaghat district recently. The ceremony was graced by CM Mohan Yadav and state DGP Kailash Makwana. The officials rewarded with promotions out of the blue belong to the district police force, the special anti-Maoists operations Hawk Force and the special armed force. The promotions were granted in connection with the elimination of seven hardcore and wanted operatives and the arrest of an equally dreaded Naxal leader.
Twin deaths leave MP political circles grieving
The sudden demise of a popular state BJP face and a senior journalist has sent shockwaves across various quarters in MP. While former Congress man and one of BJP's most active state spokespersons 58-year-old Narendra Saluja died in Indore on May 1 following a heart attack, senior PTI correspondent, 56-year-old Anil Dube died from a brain stroke and multiple heart attacks in Bhopal on Tuesday. Known for their work ethics and jovial nature, the sudden departure of Satuja and Dube less than a fortnight apart, have left state political circles grieving, while expressing shock over the possible health reasons behind the sudden deaths of such active individuals.

Chhattisgarh: Murder in hardcore Maoist's native village spikes tension

Authorities have cordoned off the region and are actively interrogating villagers to gather intelligence on the perpetrators. For years, the village remained under the firm control of Maoists, with entry strictly prohibited without their authorisation. However, recent developments have marked a turning point. Security forces have successfully established a presence in Puvarti, which was previously considered one of the safest hideouts for Maoists in the Bastar region. The establishment of a security camp has led to remarkable changes, including the first-ever Panchayat elections in the area and the historic hoisting of the national flag -- a symbolic assertion of governmental authority in a region long dominated by insurgents. These developments signal a shift in governance and an effort to reclaim control over insurgency-affected territories. Authorities continue their efforts to track down those responsible for the attack and to strengthen security measures in the district. The incident underscores the persistent challenges faced by law enforcement in countering Maoist insurgency, particularly in remote and conflict-ridden areas. 'Go home': Local's response to pro-Khalistan parade in Canada goes viral
As the Khalistan movement continues in Canada, a video of a parade of Khalistan supporters in Vancouver made went viral on social media. In the video, posted by Canada-based investigative journalist Mocha Bezirgan, a local Canadian man was heard responding to the parade by stating 'no one cares.' This video comes after Bezirgan alleged that he was 'surrounded and threatened' by a group of Khalistan supporters, who also snatched his phone, while he filmed filming their weekend rally in downtown Vancouver. Along with Khalistan flags, a Pakistani flag was also spotted during the rally. In response to the rally, the local man was heard saying 'go home, no one cares.' The supporters in the video can also be seen carrying an effigy of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi while chanting - 'Who killed Canadian citizens? Indian government.' In May 2025, India lodged strong protest with the Canadian High Commission after an anti-India parade was held in Toronto. During this parade, effigies of PM Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar were paraded. During these Khalsa day celebrations, Khalistan supporters also carried out floats with pro-Khalistan propaganda, pro-Pakistan banners and imagery targeting Indian leaders. The parade was condemned by several Indo-Canadian groups as well. In 2024, a float symbolising the assassination of Indira Gandhi was also carried out by Khalistan supporters. This parade was met with condemnation from the Canadian High Commissioner Cameron McKay. Due to the Khalistan movement in Canada, ties between India and Ottawa have also hit a snag. Last year, the rise in anti-India activities due to the killing of Khalistani extremist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, prompted India and Canada to carry out a tit-for-tat expulsion of diplomats. Tensions between India and Canada increased after the killing of Nijjar, as Khalistani supporters alleged the involvement of the Indian government. This allegation was then highlighted at a global stage after former Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau accused the Indian government of carrying out covert operations on Canadian soil, including the killing of Nijjar. The Indian government has denied any involvement and called on Canada to share the 'evidence and credible allegations' they had against New Delhi.
