Zee Education Conclave: Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Criticises AAP, Calls Sheila Dikshit 10 Times Better
Her statement shows that she believes Dikshit, who served as Delhi's CM from 1998 to 2013 with the Congress party, did a much better job than the AAP government, which she called a "disaster." Sheila Dikshit is remembered for modernizing Delhi, improving public transport, and starting projects like the Delhi Metro, although her time in office was also linked to corruption issues during the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

Rekha Gupta, who became Delhi's 9th Chief Minister in February 2025 and is the fourth woman to hold the post, used the event to highlight her focus on improving education. Her comments also show the BJP's strategy to present itself as a better choice by reminding people of Dikshit's positive work, especially after AAP's defeat in the 2025 elections.
After the BJP returned to power in Delhi after 27 years, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that Delhi had been looted many times — sometimes by invaders and sometimes by its own governments. She added that if the BJP had come to power in Delhi at the same time as it did at the Centre in 2014, the city would have looked very different today. However, she said, "better late than never," and noted that Delhi now has a triple-engine government. She stressed that if everyone works together, the development speed will increase many times.

Wish India flourishes without language terror: Mamata
Amid protests over alleged harassment of Bengali-speaking migrants in BJP-ruled States, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday (August 8, 2025) referred to Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore and wished that the country flourished without the "terror of language". She also hoped that people would wake up in an India where "Rabindranath's language, Bengali, receives respect, dignity, and the love of all citizens". 'I offer my reverence at the feet of the world poet Rabindranath Tagore. He resides in our hearts in every living moment. He is the poet of our soul, and I invoke him today from the depths of my heart. He is our guardian and our guiding light,' Ms. Banerjee posted on X. Ms. Banerjee made her comments on a day that marks Tagore's 84th death anniversary, which, according to the Bengali calendar, falls on the 22nd day of Shravan. 'Every day is a day of remembrance in his memory. We remember the poet and celebrate him throughout the year and day and night." "May that nation awaken where Rabindranath's language, Bengali, receives respect, dignity, and the love of all citizens. May that nation flourish where there is no terror of language," the Chief Minister said. Banerjee mentioned that the state government had on Thursday organised a programme in Jhargram district, remembering Tagore. 'Yesterday, we had a government programme in Jhargram. There, we had the opportunity to pay tribute to many scholars. We bowed to the world poet on that occasion. Before that programme, we also paid tribute to him publicly on social media,' she added.

‘I lost 2019 Lok Sabha election because…': Mallikarjun Kharge's big charge as he targets PM Modi
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday alleged that he had lost the 2019 Lok Sabha elections because of "bogus votes". Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge addresses the party's 'Vote Adhikar Rally' at Freedom Park in Bengaluru on Friday,(PTI) Addressing the Congress's 'Vote Adhikar Rally' in Bengaluru's Freedom Park, Mallikarjun Kharge launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), alleging 'vote theft'. 'The current government is a government of theft. Modi is making this country cry with bogus votes. I had said this in 2019. In my entire life, I lost in the 2019 elections, I also lost because of bogus votes, which has now come to light,' news agency ANI quoted Kharge as saying. After winning 11 consecutive elections (nine assembly and two Lok Sabha elections), the Congress veteran had suffered a massive defeat in the 2019 general polls. He was beaten on his home turf by his loyal follower-turned-rival Umesh Jadhav, BJP candidate, by a margin of 95,452 votes. It was his first electoral defeat in 47 years of political journey since 1972. Backing Rahul Gandhi's 'vote theft' claim in Mahadevapura in Bengaluru Central, the Congress chief alleged that the Election Commission of India works at the behest of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah. "In the elections held in Bengaluru, a legislative assembly has verified 6,60,000 votes. The last election was a betrayal election. Modi's attempt is that even if people do not vote, Modi and Amit Shah order the Election Commission to decide where to vote less and where to vote more. Modi has already intimidated the Congress and other parties and gained a majority," Kharge added. He said that the BJP won the Maharashtra and Karnataka Assembly polls and the 2024 Lok Sabha elections illegitimately. "Earlier in Maharashtra, and in Karnataka, he has continued the same trick. Modi and company did not win the 2024 elections," he said. He added that the INDIA bloc MPs will march to the Election Commission's office in Delhi on August 11. "This government will not survive, we will make you shunned by the people. Not just to bring them down, we will teach them a lesson; they are ruining our country with bad economic policies. On Monday, all the MPs will walk to the Election Commission and appeal to the Commission in Delhi. We have called a meeting of the INDIA alliance leaders. We should all be united; otherwise, PM Modi would have come to power like this," Kharge further said. Addressing the rally, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, demanded that the ECI provide immediately the voter lists and video recordings from the last 10 years. "BJP's ideology is against the Constitution of India. Every Congress leader and worker will protect Commission of India should give us the voter lists and video recordings from the last 10 years, immediately," Rahul Gandhi said.

'Big 'kaand' happening under EC's nose': Priyanka Gandhi slams poll body; backs Rahul's claims of voter fraud
NEW DELHI: Congress leader on Friday hit out at the (EC), asking it to investigate 's allegations of large-scale voter fraud. The Congress leader questioned whether the poll body sees its responsibility as being solely towards the ruling . Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Speaking to reporters in Parliament, Priyanka accused the EC of ignoring evidence of electoral wrongdoing and instead focusing on procedural demands. 'If they feel their responsibility is only to the BJP and only to one party, they need to rethink it,' she said. Priyanka said that those who 'colluded in this kind of complete destruction of our democracy' would one day have to answer for it. Priyanka slams EC over affidavit demand Priyanka's remarks came after chief electoral officers of at least three states asked Rahul Gandhi to provide names of electors allegedly added or removed wrongly from voter rolls, along with a signed declaration under the Conduct of Election Rules, to enable action. EC also said Rahul should either submit the list with a formal declaration or 'stop misleading' the public with 'baseless allegations.' Priyanka questioned the EC's insistence on an affidavit. 'Understand this, the affidavit they are asking for is under a law in which you have to give a petition within 30 days otherwise nothing will happen. So why are they asking for the affidavit? Such a big disclosure has been made. If it is unintentional, then investigate it,' she said. She also accused the EC of failing to provide voter lists in a machine-readable format and of refusing to probe the matter. 'Which is a bigger oath than what we take in Parliament? We have taken that oath, we are saying everything in public and are showing the evidence to you,' she said. Rahul's claims of voter fraud Rahul Gandhi has alleged that a Karnataka constituency witnessed 'vote chori' of 1,00,250 votes. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now His breakdown included 11,965 duplicate voters, 40,009 voters with fake or invalid addresses, 10,452 bulk voters registered at a single address, 4,132 voters with invalid photos, and 33,692 voters allegedly misusing Form 6 for new registrations. At a press conference in Delhi, the Opposition leader in Lok Sabha presented what he called evidence of the fraud. ' I am a politician, what I say to the people is my word. I am saying it to the people publicly, take it as an oath. Interestingly, they haven't denied the information,' Rahul said. He added, 'They haven't said the voter lists (shown by me) are wrong, they are saying Rahul Gandhi should say it under oath... they know the truth. We know you (EC) have done this across the country.' In a warning to officials, he said, 'It doesn't matter how senior or junior you are. One day, the opposition is going to come to power and then you see what we do to you.' EC defends stance, Congress pushes back The EC has said that Rahul must file his claims in the legally prescribed manner before any action can be taken. Priyanka countered by asking how the EC could dismiss the claims without an inquiry. 'The evidence is in front of them and they have to investigate it. How can they say it is wrong unless they investigate it? There can be no matter bigger than this,' she said. Priyanka added that the INDIA bloc would decide collectively on further action. Drawing an analogy, she said, 'If you go to a teacher and say cheating is happening, will the teacher slap you or say that it would be checked? Here they are abusing him (Rahul Gandhi) and then say sign an affidavit. If such a big 'kaand' is happening under your nose and you are not doing it, then investigate it.' Later, Priyanka stressed that the 'entire nation wants' the EC to carry out a proper investigation. Asked if the matter should be discussed in Parliament, she said the government 'has no courage' to debate it. 'This government has become absolutely weak... it is unable to run the House,' she claimed. 'What is the problem in holding a discussion? They should put forward their stand and we will put forward ours,' she said.
