Hindi medium, no money, one dream: Rajasthan boy makes it to medical college

India Today02-08-2025
When 19-year-old Monu Meena from Bhadadsui, a remote village in Baran district of Rajasthan, received the news of his NEET result, the tears in his eyes weren't just of joy. They were filled with memories of struggle, sacrifice, and a promise fulfilled to his late father, his hardworking mother, and a selfless elder brother.Monu, a Hindi medium student, secured the 748th rank in the OBC category in NEET 2025 and is now on his way to becoming a doctor.advertisementBut behind this success lies a tale of loss, grit, and silent determination.A FAMILY 'S SACRIFICE FOR ONE DREAM
Monu lost his father in 2011 after a prolonged illness. He was very young then, and the entire burden of raising the family fell on his mother, Kalavati Bai, who supported them through subsistence farming. His elder brother, Ajay Meena, also a biology student, once dreamt of becoming a doctor himself. But when coaching for both brothers became unaffordable, Ajay quietly gave up his own dream and pursued a BSc instead — so that Monu's dream could stay alive.Monu showed early academic promise, scoring 91.5% in Class 10, but preparing for NEET in Kota was a distant dream due to financial constraints.

A TURNING POINT IN KOTAThrough the Chief Minister Anuprati Coaching Scheme, Monu received two years of fully sponsored coaching and hostel facilities at Motion Coaching in Kota. He was selected based on his school marks. There, he met NV Sir, the director of Motion, who saw the dream in his eyes along with the hesitation that came from being a Hindi medium student. He became his biggest supporter and encouraged him towards achieving his goal.Monu recalls, "People say it is difficult to succeed in Hindi medium, I also used to think the same. But when I met NV Sir, the direction of my thinking changed."He added, "It's not the medium, but hard work that matters. And then I decided that now I will work twice as hard."Motion Coaching provided Monu with Hindi study materials, test series, and one-on-one doubt sessions, never letting him feel different because of not coming from an English medium background. This year, he cracked NEET, not just passed but also secured 748th rank in his category and will now study MBBS in a government medical college.FROM A VILLAGE CLASSROOM TO A MEDICAL COLLEGEMonu's success in NEET is not just academic. It is deeply emotional, a tribute to his mother's unbroken resolve and his brother's silent sacrifice.advertisementHe expressed gratitude to the Rajasthan government and the Chief Minister for schemes like Anuprati Yojana that empower marginalised students. Monu also thanked coaching institutes like Motion for ensuring inclusivity without discrimination. He said, "If I am here today, it is only because my mother did not give up. My brother gave me his dreams. And Motion gave me a platform to fly."- Ends

Manchester United Announce Signing Of Slovenia Forward Benjamin Sesko

Last Updated: Manchester United have signed Slovenian international Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig for up to £74 million, completing their attack overhaul. Manchester United signed Slovenian international Benjamin Sesko on Saturday, August 9, making him the third forward the 20-time English champions have acquired during the close season. The 22-year-old's transfer from RB Leipzig, reportedly worth up to £74 million (85 million euros, $99 million), completes an overhaul of the Red Devils' attack, which underperformed last season. 'Manchester United is pleased to confirm that Benjamin Sesko has joined the club, subject to registration," stated the club. The five-year contract includes a guaranteed payment of £66.3 million, with the remainder in add-ons, as per reports. Sesko, who has scored 16 goals in 41 international appearances, is United's third major signing in attack following the arrivals of Matheus Cunha for £62.5 million and Bryan Mbeumo for £65 million with £6 million in add-ons. 'The history of Manchester United is very special, but what excites me is the future," Sesko said. 'When we discussed the project, it was clear that everything is in place for this team to continue to grow and compete for the biggest trophies again soon." Sesko had also been linked with Newcastle, but Eddie Howe's League Cup winners failed to secure him despite offering European football this season, unlike Manchester United. Sesko noted the vibrant atmosphere at the club as they aim to recover from a disappointing 2024-2025 campaign. 'From the moment I arrived, I could feel the positive energy and family environment that the club has created," he said. 'It is the perfect place to reach my maximum level and fulfil all of my ambitions. 'I cannot wait to start learning from Ruben (Amorim) and connecting with my teammates to achieve the success that we all know we are capable of together." Strikers Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee scored just 18 goals between them in all competitions last term as United fell to a club-record 18 defeats in the Premier League era and its lowest points total of 42.
