Longhorns women's basketball reveals 2025-26 conference schedule

USA Today19 hours ago
With the women's college basketball season just a few months away, Longhorns fans can start marking their calendars. On Tuesday, Texas revealed its SEC slate for the 2025-2026 season. After falling just a few wins short of a national title last year, they have a few exciting matchups on the horizon.
During the 2025-2026 campaign, Texas is set to welcome Auburn, Georgia, Kentucky, LSU, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and Texas A&M to the Moody Center. In conference play, they will go on the road to face Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, LSU, Missouri, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt.
The Longhorns' first conference home game will come on January 4th when they take on Ole Miss. Four days later, Auburn will make the trip to Forty Acres before Texas goes on the road to face LSU and South Carolina. The January slate also includes trips to Fayetteville on the 25th and Gainesville on the 29th.
When the regular season comes to an end, Texas will shift its focus to the 2026 SEC Women's Basketball Tournament. It will be held at Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, South Carolina. The tournament, which will include all 16 games, is set to start on March 4 and end on March 8th.
While the Longhorns will be looking to add another conference title to the rafters, they also have unfinished business. Last season, they made it to the Final Fur before their season came to an end. With a roster full of talent and retiring stars such as Madison Booker, they are poised to build on their success.
In conference play, Texas will be able to show just how good they are. If they can mirror their success from the 2023-2024 campaign, the rest of the SEC could be in trouble.

LSU football WR Aaron Anderson named to Biletnikoff Award watchlist

LSU football's Aaron Anderson was named to the Biletnikoff Award watch list, announced Wednesday. The annual award is presented to college football's most outstanding receiver. Ja'Marr Chase won it in 2019 as part of the Tigers' national championship team, and Josh Reed took it home in 2001. Anderson is entering his fourth season of college football and third in Baton Rouge. The New Orleans, LA native returned to his home state after playing for Alabama as a freshman. The redshirt junior faces increased competition this year due to reinforcements from the transfer portal, but he'll likely solidify a starting role in the slot. The five-foot-eight, 188-pounder recorded career bests with 61 catches for 884 yards and five touchdowns last year. He averaged 14.5 yards per catch and hauled in a career-long 76-yard pass, which came against Texas A&M. Anderson was LSU's leading wide receiver in 2025, making his return significant with LSU losing four of its top five receivers. Anderson also contributes as a return specialist on kickoffs. He took one to the house against Oklahoma in the season finale.

Spurs rumors: Why Dylan Harper could make De'Aaron Fox ‘expendable'

The post Spurs rumors: Why Dylan Harper could make De'Aaron Fox 'expendable' appeared first on ClutchPoints. One of the big questions for the San Antonio Spurs entering the 2025-26 season is how they will handle the logjam that currently exists in their guard department. Last year, San Antonio saw Stephon Castle win Rookie of the Year and traded for De'Aaron Fox midway through the season, then they selected guard Dylan Harper with the second overall pick in the ensuing NBA Draft. With all of these talented guards on the roster, there has been speculation that one of them could become the odd man out, and recently, ESPN NBA insider Jeremy Woo shed some light in that department, citing a Western Conference scout. '[Harper] has some [Manu] Ginobili to his offensive game,' said the scout. 'If the 3-point shot ever becomes a true weapon [for him], he makes Fox expendable and gives San Antonio a nice trade asset.' Woo also noted that 'Harper's pick-and-roll prowess and crafty, powerful style of play made him the choice for the Spurs, who have been optimizing for additional playmaking around Victor Wembanyama moving forward,' and that even if he comes off the bench this year, the Spurs still view him as a foundational piece of their future. An awkward situation for the Spurs Being too talented is almost always a good problem to have, but it's still something that the Spurs must address as it pertains to their guard depth chart, and whether some of those resources would be better allocated to other parts of their roster. At the current juncture, Fox figures to get the starting point guard nod for San Antonio, with Castle possibly sliding in beside him in the backcourt. However, Harper was one of this year's most highly touted draft prospects for a reason, and it's possible that at some point, he will force the Spurs coaching staff to give him increased minutes. If things reach that point, it's not hard to envision other teams inquiring about Fox's availability. However, in the present moment, Spurs fans can be happy that their team is clearly taking its effort to build around Wembanyama seriously, even if they may have created a guard logjam in the process. Spurs' De'Aaron Fox lands $229 million max contract extension

The post Spurs' De'Aaron Fox lands $229 million max contract extension appeared first on ClutchPoints. De'Aaron Fox and the San Antonio Spurs have agreed to a four-year, $229 million max contract extension, league sources confirmed to ClutchPoints on Monday. Leading up to becoming extension-eligible on Sunday, August 3, Fox and his representation had been in constant contact with the Spurs about the potential numbers on a new deal. While there were discussions about a potential smaller contract, including the possibility of taking less than the maximum, sources said Fox's camp was adamant about wanting to lock in the full amount now. No player option or trade kicker exists on this four-year extension. ESPN reported the terms of the contract. This new contract locks Fox into his star role with the Spurs next to Victor Wembanyama through the 2029-30 NBA season. Fox, 27, was dealt to the Spurs before the 2025 NBA trade deadline after requesting a trade from the Sacramento Kings. Between the organization firing Mike Brown 31 games into the 2024-25 season and uncertainty surrounding Fox's long-term future with the franchise, Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul decided with Fox that it would be in his best interest to seek a change of scenery. As a result, the Kings granted Paul and Fox the ability to speak with teams around the league about the potential of a trade, which led to mutual interest between San Antonio and the star point guard. San Antonio was Fox's top destination before the trade deadline. The 2022-23 NBA Clutch Player of the Year has already formed a very strong bond with Wembanyama and the Spurs' staff since his arrival in February. He has worked extremely hard this offseason in preparation for the 2025-26 season after undergoing surgery several months ago to repair tendon damage in his left pinky finger and hand. Although his time with the Spurs was cut short to just 17 games after the trade deadline as a result of this injury and eventual surgery, Fox averaged 19.7 points, 6.8 assists, and 4.3 rebounds while shooting 44.6 percent from the floor in San Antonio. Fox will enter the 2025-26 season as the Spurs' second star alongside Wembanyama in what has become a team to watch in the Western Conference. In addition to having Wemby and Fox, the Spurs recently selected Dylan Harper with the second overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, and 2024-25 NBA Rookie of the Year Stephon Castle headlines other youthful pieces on this roster. While many have questioned how Harper, Castle, and Fox will fit in with one another since they are all ball-dominant guards, the Spurs are extremely optimistic that they will be able to make this trio work in their rotations and solidify themselves as the best backcourt in the NBA. It has become clear that the Spurs are not thinking about flipping De'Aaron Fox in yet another trade, and he will be one of the young, experienced leaders to help revitalize this franchise. San Antonio has not been to the playoffs since 2019, its longest postseason drought in franchise history.
