My lover lied to me about being married – so I agreed with his wife to set up trap

Scottish Sun01-05-2025
DEAR DEIDRE: AFTER many months of being lied to by my lover – who turned out to be married – I agreed to help his wife set a trap.
But I've been left feeling empty and deflated, and my faith in men is practically non-existent.
I'm 34, my lover is 38, and we met on a dating app three months ago.
From the moment we met up, our chemistry was electric, and it was hard for us to keep our hands off of each other.
He was everything I had ever dreamed of in a man: Caring, compassionate, funny and romantic.
I believed he was genuine, but looking back I can see I missed a lot of red flags.
We would always spend time in my house. He was barely ever free at weekends and he claimed he didn't have any social media.
I was so trusting, until one day I received a message from a woman I'd never heard of before.
It was then the crushing blow came — he was married with kids. Worse, I was his third affair. I couldn't believe it.
His wife wanted to set a trap to catch him in the act, and in a complete rage I decided to go along with it. I set up a date with him in a restaurant, and we both sat at the table waiting for him to arrive.
He was stunned, to say the least.
Since then, he's blocked my number and they've stayed together for the sake of the kids.
Dear Deidre on relationships, jealousy and envy
I feel so heartbroken, and I don't know what to do.
How could he do this to her? Or to me?
DEIDRE SAYS: This man played you, and there's no way you could have known.
While there were red flags, the fact you chose to see the best in him and put you faith in the relationship says everything about who you are.
It's understandable that this has hurt you deeply, but take this as a blessing in disguise.
Unfortunately, you'll probably never know what his motivations were, so instead of pondering over the why, focus on picking yourself back up and moving forward.
It can be difficult to be hopeful for future relationships after being deceived like this, but know that this is only one man, not all.
My support pack Mend Your Broken Heart will help you come to terms with what you're feeling.

DNA SHOWS HE'S NOT MY BROTHER
DEAR DEIDRE: WHEN my brother and I decided to do a DNA test to find out about our ancestry, the last thing I expected to discover was that he's my uncle and not my sibling.
I can't understand why my parents kept this a secret from us, and they're not even here for us to ever find out. I'm 45, my 'brother' is 50, and we've always had an incredibly close relationship.
When the results came back that we were closely related but not brothers, I was perplexed.
Our grandparents and parents have passed away, so the only person I had left to speak to was my aunt. When I mentioned the results, she admitted that it was all kept under wraps, but my parents adopted my brother when my grandmother unexpectedly got pregnant later in life.
She was unable to care for him, and my mum refused to see him go into the childcare system and took over. I was gobsmacked, to say the least.
Ever since, I've been struggling to wrap my head around it. How could my parents keep this a secret from us for all those years?
All I want is answers, and I'm struggling trying to accept that I'll never get them. I really don't know how to feel.
DEIDRE SAYS: It's understandable you feel confused, this is a huge shock. Take your time to absorb the information and come to terms with it.
While you have every reason to feel hurt that your parents kept this from you, try to trust that they had their reasons. Perhaps they were worried about how your brother would react, or they didn't think it mattered. Whatever it is, it's likely you'll never know.
Your brother is probably going through a whirlwind of emotions right now as well, so confide in each other. No matter your biological status, it shouldn't change your relationship.
HAS SHIFTY BOYFRIEND GONE BACK TO DRUGS?
DEAR DEIDRE: MY boyfriend swears he's not fallen back into his drug addiction, but I can't help but worry every time I see him walk through the door with a new mysterious package.
I'm 32, he's 34 and we've been together for six years. When we first met, he had quite an affinity for partying and doing drugs. He was out all the time, and even when he was at home, he was still dabbling in something.
It took us years of therapy and hard work for him to get clean. For the past two years he's completely reformed himself, and I've been so proud.
That was until I noticed the array of packages he's been receiving through the post. It seems like he gets a new one every few days, and it disappears before I can even investigate what's inside.
I've tried asking him about it, but he snaps at me and tells me it's none of my business. I know I might be jumping to conclusions, but I'm worried sick.
DEIDRE SAYS: If your partner is being secretive and keeping things from you, it's a normal reaction to worry – especially considering his past.
While he may not have relapsed, if you can't trust it, you need to have a serious conversation with him.
Find a quiet moment and be honest about your worries. Tell him it is your business, and you deserve to know.
Hopefully he can put your mind at ease, but if he can't, my support pack Drug Worries? will help.
WORRIED THAT SHE'S HAVING AFFAIR
DEAR DEIDRE: FINDING out about my wife's affair turned my entire world upside down – and now I'm worried sick that history is repeating itself.
I'm 42, she's 39 and we've been together for ten years.
A few years ago our relationship hit a really rough patch, and instead of working on things, my wife ran into the arms of another man.
I was in denial about her affair for months. The late nights in the office, weekends away with friends and last-minute work trips were a dead giveaway, but I didn't want to face the truth.
Ever since, we've tried so hard to fix things in our relationship, and I thought we were finally back on track.
But now the late nights at work have started again, and I'm already thinking the worst.
Will I ever get over this?
DEIDRE SAYS: Your wife broke the trust in your relationship, and it's going to take time for that to be repaired. It's understandable that you're worried she'll cheat again, and even if she isn't, it's highlighting the fact that you both still have things to work on.
Be honest with your wife and explain that you're still struggling to trust her. Allow her the opportunity to reassure you and help you resolve these feelings.
My support pack Cheating: Can You Get Over It? will help you navigate this.

Physio who accessed patient's personal data to visit her home is struck off

Josep Bofill Blanch, who was a registered physiotherapist employed by NHS Grampian in north-east Scotland, met the woman and gave her an injection when she attended his vaccination centre on May 7 2021. He then found and messaged her on Facebook to ask if her arm was sore, before visiting her rural address the following day with a bottle of Kombucha tea as a gift when there was 'no clinical justification' for him to do so, according to a Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) tribunal panel. Computer logs showed Mr Blanch had used a national vaccination database system to view the woman's record, which included her address, on three separate occasions after she had received her injection and left the centre. The panel found Mr Blanch's behaviour had breached professional boundaries and amounted to conduct done in the pursuit of a future sexual relationship. The physiotherapist had started working as a vaccinator on Fridays in the Macduff Vaccination Centre in Aberdeenshire from February 2021. Mr Blanch said he found the woman on Facebook after administering her injection as he knew her first and last name and used her social media photograph to identify her. When interviewed about the Facebook message she received from Mr Blanch, the woman said: 'I thought it was strange and ignored it. You can find anyone online, but I thought it was inappropriate.' The woman did not respond to his message. Describing his appearance at her home on May 8 2021, she said: 'I live very rural and isolated. In amongst barns. I did not see anyone there. 'I parked up after taking the dog to the vet. I never heard him approach but he appeared when I took the dog out the car. 'It was distressing for the children … it was quite a shock.' Interviewed about the incident, Mr Blanch said he felt the woman had been upset during her vaccination and he wanted to visit her to ask her how she was feeling, as it was the custom in his culture. He later provided an alternative explanation for the visit by saying that he wanted to make friends. A witness said Mr Blanch had told her he knew the rough area where the woman lived from their conversations at the vaccination clinic, so he had drove there and asked a neighbour who pointed him in the right direction. The HCPC panel found Mr Blanch's explanation for knowing and finding the woman's address was 'implausible' and 'unbelievable', and said that if he was genuinely concerned about the woman it 'should have been escalated through appropriate channels at work'. 'In all the circumstances, the panel determined that the explanations provided by (Mr Blanch) at the local interview stage were inconsistent and his conduct in attending (the woman's) address with a gift was highly inappropriate,' the panel said. Mr Blanch was suspended by NHS Grampian on May 14 2021 and resigned on August 3 of that year, before an investigation was completed. He did not tell the HCPC about the suspension, with the healthcare body only being notified after receiving a referral from NHS Grampian almost five months later on October 13, and tried to seek other employment in the profession. The panel found Mr Blanch's conduct was dishonest 'by the standards of an ordinary decent person'. It concluded all the facts proved in the case fell far below the standards required in the profession and amounted to misconduct. Mr Blanch 'showed limited insight' into his own misconduct and provided no evidence of provided any meaningful reflection or steps taken to address the concerns, meaning there was a 'real risk' he could repeat his actions in the future, the panel said. His behaviour amounted to 'persistent and intensified unwanted attention' towards the woman that 'placed his needs in the pursuit of a future, sexual relationship above the wellbeing and privacy of a service user', it added. The panel made an order to strike Mr Blanch's name from the register after determining his fitness to practise was impaired. An NHS Grampian spokesperson said: 'We note the decision of the HCP tribunal service. This individual was suspended in May 2021 and left the organisation in August 2021.'

Scots dog sitter banned from boarding animals after shocking video shows her ‘pulling a spaniel by the ears'

Kiki Sutherland was filmed dragging pets around her garden at a house in Monymusk, Aberdeenshire, and the video was then shared on social media. 3 Kiki Sutherland was filmed dragging pets around her garden at a house in Monymusk Credit: Facebook 3 The dog sitter has been banned from boarding animals after the disturbing video Credit: Facebook In the clip, Sutherland can be seen in the garden with the scruff of a Dachshund-type dog in her hand. She is then seen walking towards a spaniel before 'pulling it by the ears'. She yanked the spaniel back and picked the pooch up while going back into the house. It was later revealed that Sutherland, who advertises a home boarding service for dogs, did not have a licence for it, the Press and Journal reports. And after an investigation was launched, Aberdeenshire Council has issued a warning letter to Sutherland. It states that any commercial boarding of animals must stop at the premises as it does not currently hold a licence. The SSPCA also launched a probe last week after the shocking video emerged. An Aberdeenshire Council spokesman told the P&J: "Our investigation has concluded. "A warning letter has been issued advising that any commercial boarding of animals would require a licence. "The premises does not currently hold such a licence, therefore any commercial boarding of animals must cease at the premises. Dog groomer sacked 'immediately' and probe underway after 'unacceptable' video of animal 'abuse' emerges "Any unlicensed boarding of animals may be reported to the fiscal."

XL Bully owner stabbed dog as it attacked gran and left boy, 8, covered in blood

WARNING - GRAPHIC IMAGES: Caio Shaw had been excited to go to a birthday party but an XL Bully which was caged in the living room somehow got loose and attacked him An XL Bully owner stabbed his own dog twice after it bit an eight-year-old boy's right thumb off and savaged a grandma. ‌ Ian Parry, 45, of North Penrally, Caernarfon, Gwynedd, admitted to owning a dog dangerously out of control which caused injury on August 11 and was jailed for 26 months today. Caio Shaw declared in an impact statement read by his mother at Caernarfon crown court: "I thought I was going to die. I still get bad dreams about what happened. I have scars all over my body." ‌ Prosecutor Richard Edwards said the youngster was excited to be going to a birthday party. His mum Ffion Williams, 38, a carer, took him to Parry's nearby home. It comes after a shark attack horror as boy, 7, had his leg shredded in an idyllic bay. ‌ ‌ "Ms Williams didn't know there was an XL Bully dog at the address," counsel said. The dog had been in a cage in the living room. Parry later told police a child may have opened the cage. Mr Edwards said as Caio and a friend were preparing to go to the party, gran Yvette Hodgson saw the dog "focussed" on Caio outside the home. It leapt towards Caio's face. Both the gran and boy fell to the floor and she tried to shield the youngster, but there was a "crunching" sound from his hand. Parry got a knife from the house and stabbed the dog in the chest. But the pet bit Mrs Hodgson's forehead before it was stabbed a second time. ‌ The schoolboy was left covered in blood. He was taken to hospital at Bangor and then, due to the severity of his injuries, transferred 90 miles to Alder Hey children's hospital in Liverpool. Mr Edwards said: "Police found, despite the two stab wounds, the dog was still alive. The decision was made to dispatch the dog with a single shot to the head." Caio had a catalogue of wounds including to the ear, shoulder, face and arm and was seen by a plastic surgery team. The dog was about 10 months old and bought for £1,000 on Facebook, according to Parry. ‌ In an emotional impact statement, Caio's mother told the judge her son had been "adventurous and boisterous." She said: "I had absolutely no idea the dog was in the house. If I had known there had been an XL Bully at the address I would never have let Caio go in. They have a bad reputation." She described seeing his ear was torn and thumb had gone. "He was asking me 'why me, why me, I didn't do anything wrong'." Ms Williams said. "Caio could have been killed that day. I think about what could have happened." Her son suffered nightmares and had a nickname at school which "triggers" him. The prosecutor added that Parry had 33 offences on his record including for violence and drug matters. Defence barrister Simon Killeen said Parry had a wife and four children and had "absolutely genuine remorse." Mr Killeen said the dog required an exemption certificate to keep it. Parry used an online system but didn't check payment had been made for it. Judge Nicola Jones said the dog didn't wear a harness or collar when it left the cage. She said serious injury was caused to the boy, with partial amputation of the thumb, and to Yvette Hodgson. "It was an XL Bully, it was known to be prohibited," the judge added. An indefinite order prevents Parry from having custody of a dog. He protested in Welsh from the dock about his sentence. Outside court, Caio's mum said : "I'm glad the case is over. It's a life sentence for Caio. It will never be over for Caio. I feel guilty because I took him there."
