BJP criticises ASI's ‘attitude'
Hosapete (Vijayanagara): BJP MLC KS Naveen Kumar stated that the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), operating under the central govt's ministry of tourism, functions autonomously and often disregards central directives.
He was speaking at a press conference on Thursday, while discussing the Modi govt's 11-year achievements. "Consequently, the expected progress in monument preservation and infrastructure development in various areas of the state, including Hampi, did not occur," he stated.
"The same issue can be seen not only in Hampi but also in Chitradurga and other regions. Even constructing a toilet is not done swiftly. The ASI is in a position where it is not heeding anyone's requests.
The party will strive to address this oversight in the upcoming days," Naveen Kumar assured.
Highlighting the performance comparison between govts, he pointed out substantial differences in outcomes during the UPA tenure of 2004-14 versus the NDA period of 2014-24. Employment generation increased from 2 crore to 17 crore positions. The inflation rate dropped from 8.2% to 5%. The proportion of people in extreme poverty declined from 29.2% to 11.3%.
Additionally, the count of income tax returns submissions went up from 3.9 crore to 9.2 crore, he claimed.
"Vijay Mallya, Nirav Modi, and no other wealthy individual had their loans waived. There is evidence to back this up. Vijay Mallya himself indicated that he repaid the loan. The country observed extensive progress during the Modi administration, with significant advancements in all areas, including highways, railway development, foreign investment, and women's empowerment," Naveen Kumar said.
The press conference was attended by party district unit president S Sanjeev Reddy, Ayyali Thimmappa, KS Raghavendra, Odo Gangappa, Surya Papanna, Omkar Gowda, Shankar Meti, Sali Siddaiah Swamy, Honnurappa, Madhusudan, and others.

Condolences have been pouring in from several political leaders on the death of Vijay Rupani. Several Bharatiya Janata Party leaders mourned the death of Vijay Rupani. In a post on X, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that Vijay Rupani will be remembered as a grassroots leader who devoted his life to the development and welfare of his state. Rupani was in charge of the Punjab unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu had confirmed the presence of former CM Rupani on board the crashed Air India flight. 'The 12-year-old Boeing 787-8 aircraft departed from Ahmedabad at 1338 hours, carrying 230 passengers and 12 crew. The aircraft crashed shortly after take-off. We regret to inform you that, of the 242 aboard, there are 241 confirmed fatalities. The sole survivor is being treated in a hospital, Air India posted on X. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday visited the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital and met with Vishwashkumar Ramesh, the lone person to miraculously survive the Air India plane crash a day ago, in which all the other 241 passengers died. Kumar, a British national of Indian origin, was seated in row 11 at the left window seat in the flight's economy class section positioned right behind an emergency exit. There were 169 Indian nationals, 53 British nationals, seven Portuguese nationals, and one Canadian national on board the crashed plane, airline authorities said. Paying tribute to the BJP leader, PM Modi said that the former CM was a humble and hardworking person and firmly committed to the Party's ideology. 'Met the family of Shri Vijaybhai Rupani Ji. It is unimaginable that Vijaybhai is not in our midst. I've known him for decades. We worked together, shoulder to shoulder, including during some of the most challenging times. Vijaybhai was humble and hardworking, firmly committed to the Party's ideology,' PM Modi wrote in a post on X. 'Rising up the ranks, he held various responsibilities in the Organisation and went on to serve diligently as Gujarat's Chief Minister,' he added. PM Modi further praised the former Gujarat CM's contribution in various posts that he held over the years. 'In every role assigned, he distinguished himself, be it in the Rajkot Municipal Corporation, as Rajya Sabha MP, as Gujarat BJP President and as Cabinet Minister in the state government,' PM Modi said. Speaking to ANI, one of Rupani's neighbours, Kiranben, with a wrenched heart, stated that it still feels as if he is present with them. '...I still feel as if he is with us. I have not been able to say anything since yesterday. His memories will stay with us used to celebrate all the festivals believe this has happened,' she said. For Rupani's neighbour and family doctor, Dr Nayan Shah, it is hard to believe what has happened, but it would be the memories that he will cherish forever. Shah stated, 'We have been neighbours for 35 years. His memories will always stay with us. Be it good or bad times, we stayed used to celebrate all the festivals is very difficult to believe, but we have to stay with his memories.'
