Major EastEnders exit as Bobby Brazier quits after four years

Metro20 hours ago

After four years on Albert Square, Bobby Brazier is set to leave EastEnders.
The actor and Strictly Come Dancing 2023 runner-up has been inundated with job offers since reaching the final of the BBC dance show, so he's striking while the iron is hot and moving on to pastures new.
Bobby, 22, who plays Freddie Slater in the soap, will bow out later this year.
An EastEnders spokesperson confirmed to Metro: 'We can confirm that Bobby Brazier will be leaving EastEnders, and we wish him all the best for the future.'
Meanwhile, an insider explained that the pieces just happened to fall into place with regard to storylines and Bobby's plans.
The source told The Sun: 'Bosses had a meeting with Bobby only recently as they had a plan in mind for a storyline, and it just so happened that Bobby was also thinking that now was the right time to look for other opportunities outside the show.
'The timing of the decision worked for both, but his final scenes are not for a while yet.
'The character has had a great run, but the time is now right for Bobby to look for other opportunities, and for EastEnders to wave goodbye to Freddie Slater.'
Bobby has proven to be a real hit with EastEnders viewers since he joined, taking home the National Television Award for rising star last year.
Freddie first appeared in 2004, and he is the son of Graham Foster and Little Mo Slater.
Bobby then made his EastEnders debut by taking over the role from Alex and Tom Kilby, who last portrayed the character in 2006 when Freddie left with his mum to start a new life.
His return came when Freddie attended the wedding of his aunt, Kat Slater, and Phil Mitchell.
Since, his most memorable moments have included when he beat Theo Hawthorne unconscious with an iron and punched him multiple times, having confronted Theo for pretending to be his father.
Freddie was also given an ADHD diagnosis with the help of his old schoolteacher.
When he joined EastEnders, Bobby, whose mum is the late Jade Goody, said: 'Stepping into the acting world has always been a vision of mine, and doing that with EastEnders as a Slater is a blessing.
'I'm very grateful.'
Executive producer Chris Clenshaw also said: 'Freddie Slater is a chaotic 18-year-old with a sensitive soul. A modern-day lad who's in touch with his spiritual side.'
He called Bobby 'an amazing young addition to the EastEnders cast, who brings heart and humility to the role'.
In recent months, Bobby has reached new heights of stardom, confessing to the Daily Mail that he had 'spent lots of money' after his Strictly success.
He also laughed when quizzed about rumours that he was set for Hollywood after impressing the nation with his performance abilities. More Trending
'You kind of just take it as it comes, and nothing really changes,' he said.
'There's what everyone sees, and then there's your life, and I'm too invested in my own life to get wrapped up in what everyone else says and is talking about.'
He said similar to Metro in 2023 while Strictly was still airing, where Bobby was paired with Dianne Buswell.
'I just trust that I'll always be OK and that life will take me where it's meant to take me.'

Jamie Borthwick's EastEnders job 'at risk' after being 'suspended for using shocking disabled slur backstage at Strictly'

Jamie Borthwick 's job on EastEnders could be at risk after his disabled slur scandal. The actor, who has played Jay Brown for 19 years, has been suspended by the BBC after he used a slur aimed at disabled people on the set of Strictly. He has since issued an apology, sharing that he did not fully understand the derogatory nature of the term he used but now that he is aware, he is 'deeply embarrassed'. A source has now told The Sun his job is at risk, explaining: 'Jamie is well thought of but Jay hasn't played a central role in the show for a while. 'The character hasn't had a major storyline recently - he's been very much a supporting character of late.' From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. The actor, who has played Jay Brown for 19 years, has been suspended by the BBC after he used a slur aimed at disabled people on the set of Strictly Jamie has been kept busy with Strictly since appearing on the Christmas special in 2023, and then the full series in 2024, so hasn't taken on any major storylines on the BBC show for a while. The insider added: 'With a new boss in Ben Wadey who only recently took the helm and with the scandal taking place so soon into his tenure feeling is that Jamie's place on the show could be at serious risk.' MailOnline has contacted the BBC and Jamie's representatives for comment. A video obtained by The Sun showed the EastEnders actor using the term 'm********s' to describe residents of Blackpool where the show was being filmed at the time. He was reportedly backstage during rehearsals with Wynne Evans who could be heard saying 'Oh my God' when he made the remark. In the video clip, Jamie and Wynne were reportedly sharing their excitement at being selected for a place on the Strictly tour. Jamie has since issued an apology for using the slur, saying: 'I want to apologise sincerely and wholeheartedly for the words I used in the video showing my reaction to making it through Blackpool week on Strictly. 'I am deeply sorry for any offence and upset my words and actions have caused. It is no excuse, but I did not fully understand the derogatory term I used and its meaning.' 'The character hasn't had a major storyline recently - he's been very much a supporting character of late' Jamie added he did not fully understand the derogatory nature of the term he used but now that he is aware, he is 'deeply embarrassed'. The soap star said his actions were not a true reflection of his views and he reiterated how sorry he is. The BBC told The Sun on Sunday: 'This language is entirely unacceptable and in no way reflects the values or standards we hold and expect at the BBC. We have robust processes in place for this.' Jamie, who has played Jay Brown on EastEnders since 2006, is now said to have been suspended from the show. Jamie, laughing, is reported to have said: 'Blackpool by the way. 'Absolute m********s'.' MailOnline has contacted the BBC for further comment. It's the second Strictly-related controversy Jamie has found himself in after he and Wynne were reportedly blasted by BBC bosses over a shocking sex toy video. In footage obtained by The Sun on Sunday in April, the two stars were filmed backstage after the opera singer sent a sex toy to the EastEnders star. Filmed just two days after Wynne was recorded making a vile sexual comment to Jamie about pro dancer Janette Manrara , the video sees Jamie claiming the toy was sent to Birmingham 's Utilita Arena reception by Wynne. The actor smiles as he holds up the rubber toy, then points the camera at Wynne who is seen shirtless as he practices with professional dancer Neil Jones . Jamie says: 'Look at what he bought me. I opened it up and he surprised me with this, didn't he. It's so funny.' Jamie reportedly shared the offensive clip on the Strictly contestant Whatsapp group. A source told The Sun: 'As soon as BBC executives were made aware of this shocking and immature footage being shared they formally addressed the issue and reminded the pair they had to act professionally. 'The men were acting extremely immaturely and inappropriately, considering it was a family show, and many cast members didn't share their crass sense of humour. 'Bosses were horrified and shocked, hoping to nip the issue in the bud, unaware the video had been shared more widely.' They added that the pair thought the video was funny, yet while they saw the hilarity, others didn't, especially as Strictly is a family show. It came after Wynne was recorded crudely suggesting a three-way sex session with Janette, using the hugely demeaning term 'spit roast'. Janette did not make a complaint against the singer, yet he apologised for the vile remark aimed at tour host Janette, when footage emerged of the comment at the tour's press launch. He was then axed from the tour.

EastEnders boss leaves 'hidden message' to fans in emotional final episode

Chris Clenshaw's final EastEnders episode as Executive Producer aired tonight - with fans thinking he sent a 'hidden message' to them through Kat and Alfie's emotional chat It was the end of an era in EastEnders tonight, as Chris Clenshaw's final episode as Executive Producer aired. Chris has been leading the BBC soap since 2022, and announced he'd be stepping down earlier this year. During his time as producer, Chris created many bold and storylines that will go down in the show's history, including The Six flashforward whodunit, and the return of Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins). ‌ It was a memorable final episode for Chris, as iconic couple Kat and Alfie tied the knot for the third time - despite Kat calling the wedding off earlier in the week. ‌ At the end of the episode, the newlyweds took a moment to themselves, as they reflected on their relationship over the years. However, fans believed Chris added a hidden message from himself in the couple's conversation. As the couple reflected on the day on the open top bus, Kat said: "What a mad day." Alfie then responded: "Yeah. Well it's been a mad few years hasn't it?" to which Kat responded: "Oh, I'm knackered. I wouldn't change a thing." Fans then took to X, formerly known as Twitter to suspect it was a message from Chris. "This is deffo a message from Chris Clenshaw as it's his final episode under executive producer #eastenders," said one, while another penned: "So cute!" Previously speaking on his decision to step down earlier this year, Chris said: "It has been the honour of my life to work on the show. ‌ "I made the tough decision that I would step down after the 40th anniversary many months ago – to keep EastEnders creatively refreshed as it's a show that needs to constantly evolve. After what will be three years at the helm and leading the team through its milestone celebrations, the time feels right that I hand over the keys to The Queen Vic." He then went on to say how "grateful and proud" he was to the cast and crew. Ben Wadey has taken over the role as Executive Producer, with his first episode set to air on Monday (June 16). Teasing a huge moment to come, Ben said: 'Next week marks the start of something big in Walford that we hope will get everyone talking, and it's only just the beginning. We've got twists, shocks, and plenty of drama lined up for a summer you don't want to miss.'

Martine McCutcheon reveals huge TV comeback eight months after her split from ex-husband Jack McManus

Martine McCutcheon has revealed she's set to make a major return to television eight months after her split from husband Jack McManus. The former EastEnders star, 49, took to Instagram on Thursday to gave a candid insight into her life and career. In the clip, she shared that she recently filmed scenes for a show which she describes as being a 'number one fan' of, but remained coy on the details. Sat in her car, she told her followers: 'Hello everybody, I hope you are good, I've just pulled over, I did the school run this morning a bit windswept got the window down just having a hot flush. 'I was looking at my Instagram and I realised that I actually haven't talked to you guys on here, just having a chit chat for such a long time because I've had so much going on and yeah it's been so much change. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the Daily Mail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. 'I've still been managing to do my thing and get back to it, I did a show the other night that I am probably its number one fan. 'I'll share more with you about that nearer the time but loved it, loved it. I've been meditating for the universe and I've decided that I really want to do guided meditations and I want to help people.' While she kept details of the project under wraps, Martine's comeback tease has sparked a wave of excitement among fans eager to see her back on screen. Martine is best known for her role as Tiffany Mitchell in the iconic BBC soap EastEnders. She has also starred in dramas such as Spooks, Agatha Christie's Marple, and Echo Beach, and appeared alongside Hugh Grand in popular Christmas flick Love Actually. In addition to acting, she's appeared as herself on shows like Loose Women, Celebrity Gogglebox, and showcased her singing talent on The Masked Singer. Martine had taken a step back from social media following her high-profile divorce from singer Jack. The actress revealed in August 2024 that Jack had left her after 18 years together - days after she wrote a heartfelt birthday tribute to him. It later emerged that the pair had put their £1.5million house in Surrey up for sale three months earlier, in May. Yet after seven months and no luck securing a sale, the asking price has been slashed by £250,000, dropping from its original listing of £1.5million in May to £1.25million. Martine and Jack now look set to make a loss, having originally purchased the property for £1.3million in June 2022. The decision to lower the price comes just a week after Martine appeared to take a swipe at her ex in a series of cryptic Instagram posts. In January, Martine shared a series of quotes on her Stories, and captioned one by vowing to 'keep the faith and look forward' in the wake of her marital split. In one pointed post, Martine re-shared a quote which read: 'Sometimes, healing means telling people to f**k off,' with the caption: 'Absobloodylutely!' She went onto share a poem, which said: 'And all this time, you thought you were falling apart, you didn't realise you were actually putting yourself back together.' Alongside it she wrote: 'For anyone who needs this, keep the faith. Look forward - not back... and smile... you WILL be OK... Maybe even better than OK.' Martine broke the news of her split in a statement that read: 'After much thought and consideration, Jack has decided it's best for us to separate after 18 years together and I accept his decision. 'We are both so very blessed and grateful for our beautiful, nine-year-old son Rafferty, who's [sic] happiness and welfare has always been, and will continue to be, our number 1 priority. 'We both of course, still cherish and look forward to being parents together to our wonderful boy for the rest of our lives... 'Whilst this decision has evolved over a period of time, we are still finding our new way forward as a family and kindly ask for some privacy at this time... especially for our little boy.' She continued: 'Our love for Rafferty is something that will never waver or change and we obviously want to protect him and help him feel as safe and secure as possible. 'Many thanks in advance for your respect and support at this difficult I continue to send Jack all the love, luck and happiness for the next chapter of his. 'Rafferty and I (as always,) are rooting for you! Thank you all, for the love and support, now and xx.' Speaking exclusively to MailOnline at the time of Martine's statement, Jack had said: 'There is nothing more to add. I will not be saying anything more about this.' The couple married in 2012 in Italy's picturesque Lake Como, five years after they started dating.
