Netflix's 'Black Warrant' actor Rahul Bhat criticises Cannes festival, says 'Didn't walk the red carpet for fashion, PR or...'
Rahul highlighted that his appearances at Cannes were rooted in the merit of his films. 'People come here to take pictures on the red carpet.' read more
Actor Rahul Bhat, whose films have been officially selected at the Cannes Film Festival twice, has shared his disappointment over how the event seems to have shifted its focus from cinema to style. In a conversation with Brut India, he reflected on how the festival's essence has changed, and many online seem to agree with him.
Rahul highlighted that his appearances at Cannes were rooted in the merit of his films. 'People come here to take pictures on the red carpet. But I'm proudly saying that I have walked the red carpet. Shouldn't that be of some value? Instead, I'm having to point out the difference and tell people I was part of official selections.'
STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD
He also spoke about the struggle to be recognised for the right reasons, 'I walked the red carpet for real, not for fashion. Not for taking pictures, not for PR machinery. I walked the real red carpet. Two of my movies (Ugly, Kennedy) have been (premiered) here. What to do? I am forced to tell this to people, but I don't know how to blow my own trumpet,' he said.
Online, many say Cannes has lost its prestige
With influencers and celebrities making frequent appearances on the red carpet, the festival's image seems to be shifting, and not everyone is happy about it. 'Not relevant anymore now…. before it used to be film exclusive, now anyone can go there so it's lost its significance,' wrote one Instagram user. Another added, 'It's time Cannes realises that it's a movie's Mecca not a pop gathering.'
The sentiment was echoed across several comments, with some calling the festival a 'circus.' 'It's sad to see such a prestigious film festival turn into a circus,' said one. Another remarked, 'Cannes has turned into a circus ! So sad.' One even likened it to another major fashion event: 'They have turned a film festival into a ramp walk , met gala knock off at this point.' A user even joked, 'Soon influencers will go to Noble Prize ceremony too…and when it will happen we must know that the end is near.'

As expected, the Grammy winner delivered a power-packed performance on the opening night. While performing one of her most popular songs, I'm That Girl, the pop star's chaps unexpectedly fell off, causing a wardrobe malfunction. The icon that she is, Beyonce handled the situation with grace. The Single Ladies crooner did not miss a beat as she bent down to pick up her chaps. She was seen smiling and swaying her hips as she moved on from the mishap. One of her background dancers quickly came over and fastened the chaps into her back. The audience cheered on as Beyonce continued with her performance. Some people lauded the background dancers for their quick effort to recover the situation. 'THE DANCERS DESERVE THEIR 10s!!! The way they fell back in line effortlessly! Wow," said a user. Another remarked, 'The show must go on! And the dancers are on it and fall right back in line!!!" View this post on Instagram A post shared by Nunny Darius (@nunnydarius) This wasn't the first time Beyonce handled a stage mishap like a pro. During her Cowboy Carter concert in Chicago, both the Crazy in Love singer and her daughter Blue Ivy were on stage when the teen's hoops got tangled in Beyonce's hair. The moment happened during the duo's performance on Protector. However, the 13-year-old remained calm as she proceeded to untangle her earring mid-performance, proving that she's a true professional, just like her mom. Beyonce is set to perform in London for another five nights. The European leg of her tour will be wrapping up on June 26 in Paris. After that, the pop star will head to the US, ending her tour with a final show in Las Vegas on July 26. First Published:

Deepika Padukone NOT Dropped from Kalki 2, Sources Deny Fallout Rumours
Last Updated: Deepika Padukone has not been dropped from Kalki 2, say sources. The film is still in pre-production and casting has yet to begin. No on-set fallout occurred. Amid swirling rumours that Deepika Padukone has been dropped from Kalki 2, sources close to the film have categorically denied any such development. The buzz, which gained traction online over the past few days, claimed that Deepika had a fallout with the film's team and co-star Prabhas—a claim insiders are now calling 'completely baseless." The truth? Kalki 2 hasn't even begun filming yet. According to sources, the much-anticipated sequel is still in the pre-production phase and no official casting has been locked in. 'They haven't even approached actors because it's still in development," a source told NDTV, debunking the theory that Deepika was dropped due to 'on-set friction." As another insider pointed out, 'There's been no shoot, no interaction, and therefore, no fallout." The speculation appears to be an extension of earlier reports involving Deepika's exit from Sandeep Reddy Vanga's upcoming film Spirit. Rumours suggested the actor had demanded 8-hour workdays, a higher salary, and a share in profits—conditions that reportedly did not sit well with the filmmaker. Adding fuel to the fire, Vanga shared cryptic posts on X (formerly Twitter) criticizing actors for wanting 'luxury," which many assumed was a dig at Deepika. The situation escalated when Triptii Dimri, fresh off her success in Animal, was announced as the lead in Spirit. While Dimri confirmed her casting with a grateful Instagram post, the timing led many to conclude that Deepika had been replaced. As for Kalki 2, no such decision has been made. The rumour mill may be churning overtime, but for now, Deepika's involvement remains a matter of speculation—one not supported by any official word or concrete development. Until the film moves forward, one thing remains clear: there's no drama where there's no shoot. First Published: June 06, 2025, 16:14 IST
