Kaizer Chiefs fan-favourite handed a surprise lifeline?
Several Kaizer Chiefs fan-favourites have a lot to prove if they're still going to be with the club beyond 2025-2026.
George Matlou, surprisingly, is included in the club's pre-season tour.
Mduduzi Shabalala has drawn criticism from some sections of supporters.
Two Chiefs fan-faves handed surprise lifelines?
Talented midfield player George Matlou will join the squad on their pre-season tour to the Netherlands. That could be seen as a surprise, given his relatively fringe status.

Speaking of favourites, Mduduzi Shabalala also has plenty to prove at this level. At the start of 2024-2025, Mdu was a critical cog in the Chiefs side, operating from the number 10 role. His output was healthy, too. However, that has dwindled dramatically. After 27 league appearances, he's only got four goals and an assist. His decision-making can also be questioned; with three men ahead of him and only two defenders, an easy pass would have guaranteed that Chiefs doubled their lead against Pirates in their league encounter earlier this month. Instead, he carelessly gave it away, and the Sea Robbers scored on the break through Evidence Makgopa. Mdu or Die in action. Image: @kaizerchiefs / X

Joey Chestnut returns to Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest: Is the record in danger?
Competitive eating icon Joey Chestnut is set to make his triumphant return to the Nathan's Famous Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest next month, after missing last year's event due to a sponsorship dispute. Chestnut, a 16-time champion and holder of the world record with 76 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes (set in 2021), announced his comeback on social media this week. 'This event means the world to me,' Chestnut wrote on X. 'It's a cherished tradition, a celebration of American culture, and a huge part of my life.' Chestnut missed the 2024 competition following a disagreement with Major League Eating (MLE) over his endorsement deal with Impossible Foods, a plant-based company. However, he emphasised that his involvement in the plant-based space never conflicted with his love for traditional hot dogs. 'I'm excited to be back on the Coney Island stage, doing what I live to do… Stay hungry!' he added. Major League Eating president Richard Shea confirmed the excitement, calling Joey Chestnut's return a moment that will make the 2025 contest 'the greatest Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest of all time.' Last year's champions were: Patrick Bertoletti , who ate 58 hot dogs to win the men's title , who ate 58 hot dogs to win the men's title Miki Sudo, who claimed her title with 51 hot dogs in the women's division The 2025 contest will take place as usual on Friday, 4 July at Coney Island in New York. Orlando Pirates could sell Mofokeng to Israeli club for just R31m?
Orlando Pirates could lose talented Relebohile Mofokeng for just R31 million if he gets sold to Maccabi Haifa. The 20-year-old has been described as a generational talent having been the Buccaneers' best player this past season. According to a report by Israeli publication Sport5 , Maccabi Haifa have been monitoring the Bafana Bafana winger for some time and are ready to made a bid 'Orlando Pirates [are] demanding about 1.5 million euros (approx. R31.2 million) for the 20-year-old talent, as well as a percentage of any future sale,' the publication said. The Buccaneers have one of the most talented young players the country has produced. Given Mofokeng's achievent at such a young age, many would think the player is worth more than R31 million. With the team set to jet off to Europe for their pre-season training, Pirates need to expose the young attacker as much as possible to European clubs. A bigger offer might emerge in the coming weeks or months before the transfer window closes. Although R31 million is a lot of money, Orlando Pirates should know that Israel is not the best country for Mofokeng to improve as a player. Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos suggested the player to move to Belgium, Spain, Portugal or the Netherlands.
