Will send BJP to detention camps post 2026 assembly polls: TMC's Abhishek

TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee on Sunday tore into the BJP, branding it a 'Bangla-Birodhi' party, alleging that it wants to send Bengalis to detention camps.
He also claimed that after the 2026 Bengal Assembly polls, it is the BJP that will be electorally "sent to detention camps and wiped out" from the state.
The BJP wants to take Bengalis to detention camps. I want to tell them clearly after the 2026 elections, it is you whom we will send to the detention camps, the TMC national general secretary said, addressing TMC's Martyrs' Day rally.
Claiming that the BJP is a Bangla-Birodhi party (anti-Bengal party), Banerjee alleged that it has consistently targeted Bengalis for speaking their mother tongue.
Just because we speak Bengali, we are being targeted. Why doesn't the BJP take action against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for his continuous attacks on the Bengali language? It shows their true colours, he asked.
Banerjee said that if required, TMC MPs would speak in Bengali in Parliament in the ongoing session.
Let the BJP try to stop us. If needed, we will speak in Bengali inside Parliament during this session and see if they dare silence our voice, he added.

While there is a need to learn many languages, including English, she said, one should not forget the mother tongue. "The sweetness of Bengali is all-pervading," she added. Additionally, Banerjee said that so far, 93 lakh students have benefitted from the 'Kanyashree' scheme, which is aimed at preventing child marriages. She assured that the number would surpass one crore next year. She said that her government has spent ₹17,000 crore for implementing the scheme, which has also received the United Nations' recognition. "Due to Kanyashree, dropout rates at the primary, secondary and higher secondary levels have dropped. Dropout rates at the primary level are zero," she added.

Ahead of Independence Day, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Thursday urged everyone to learn from the history of the Partition, stay united to protect India from division, and work together to achieve the dream of Viksit Bharat by 2047. 'It's because of him, the Hindu Bengalis got a place. Many people from both East Pakistan and West Pakistan came here after leaving their houses, properties and from India, Muslims went there,' he added in the X post.

Yatnal booked for saying he will give ₹5 lakh in cash to Hindu youth marrying Muslim girl
The police have booked expelled BJP leader Basanagouda Patil Yatnal for saying that he will reward ₹5 lakh in cash if a Hindu youth marries a Muslim girl. District working president of Khidmat-e-Millat Qamar Junaid Qureshi has in his complaint at Roza Police Station said that Mr. Yatnal, who has always created controversies disturbing communal harmony by making derogatory statements, particularly against Muslims, insulted Muslim girls with his recent remark. Mr. Yatnal's statement came after a youth belonging to the Valmiki community in Koppal was killed by a group of people from the Muslim community on August 3 over his affair with a Muslim girl. He said that in love jihad cases, the State government gives protection to the minorities but nobody comes forward to save Hindu youth. He stated that he will launch a campaign to provide ₹5 lakh in cash for Hindu youth marrying Muslim girl.
