JP Nadda, Dharmendra Pradhan, Samrat Chaudhary, Nayab Singh Saini among others listen to PM Modi's 'Mann ki Baat' program
Gurugram (Haryana) [India], June 29 (ANI): Union Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party national president JP Nadda were among those who listened to the 123rd episode of PM Narendra Modi's 'Mann ki Baat' in Gurugram on Sunday.
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini was also present during the occassion.
Meanwhile, Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami participated in the program in Dehradun, whereas Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak did so in Lucknow.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan listened to the 'Mann ki Baat' program in North 24 Parganas, whereas Bihar Deputy Chief Miniseters Samrat Chaudhary and Vijay Sinha listened to the program in Patna.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the 123rd episode of his monthly radio address condemned the imposition of Emergency in the country and termed the period as one of the darkest chapters in India's democratic history.
He said that the country is observing the 50th anniversary of the Emergency as 'Samvidhan Hatya Diwas'.
During the programme, PM Modi played rare archival audio clips of former Prime Ministers Morarji Desai, Babu Jagjivan Ram and Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who described the Emergency as a time of constitutional murder, mass arrests, and the suppression of civil liberties and press freedom.
Prime Minister Modi asserted that every citizen should remember the ones who fought 'bravely' against the Emergency and it also inspires us to stay 'vigilant' to 'safeguard' the constitution.
'Morarji Desai describes the Emergency in brief... Not only did those who imposed the Emergency murder democracy, but their intention was to keep the judiciary as their puppet... Under 'MISA', anyone was arrested arbitrarily, people were tortured... Indians refused to compromise on democracy. Finally, people won and the Emergency was lifted. Babu Jagjivan Ram powerfully about this...' PM Modi said.
In the audio clip of Morarji Desai, the former Prime Minister is heard recounting the horrors of the Emergency.
Desai is heard saying in the clip played by PM Modi in his radio address, 'When the Emergency was imposed, people were treated inhumanely. Their right to freedom was snatched away, newspapers were silenced, and the judiciary was rendered powerless. Over one lakh people were jailed. Such an arbitrary rule is rare even in world history.'
OM Modi also addressed various other topics such as the eradication of eye disease trachoma, the recent celebration of international Yoga Day and women-led development enterprises shaping New India. (ANI)

MP Upendra Kushwaha seeks fairer representation in parliament for Bihar and UP
Former Union minister Upendra Kushwaha on Sunday claimed that states like Bihar and Uttar Pradesh have an inadequate representation in Parliament and delimitation was necessary to set things right. I would urge my Hindu brethren to show some magnanimity, Kushwaha said.(ANI file) Addressing a rally in Gayaji, the Rajya Sabha MP also termed as "misleading" the contention that better implementation of family planning measures had slowed down the growth in population of southern states and delimitation would put these at a disadvantage. "If we see the period between 1881, when the first census was held under British Raj, and the Independence in 1947, the rate of growth in southern states was higher. The reason being famines and pandemics hitting Bihar and adjoining states like Uttar Pradesh with greater severity", claimed the Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) chief. The RLM is an NDA partner. He said, "If we look at the data, in southern states there is a Lok Sabha constituency for every 21 lakh people while in Bihar and UP 31 lakh people elect one MP. This militates against Babasaheb Ambedkar's principle of one person one vote and every vote having an equal value". Kushwaha blamed the "injustice" on the Congress, saying, "During the Emergency, in 1976, the Delimitation Act was amended, which disrupted the earlier practice of census and delimitation taking place together. Now, the number of parliamentary constituencies has been static for 50 years. Otherwise, Bihar would have 60 MPs, 20 more than its current strength in the Lower House". He also said, "Over the years, the rate of population growth in the south has declined not because of performance of governments in states but due to improvement in education, which they could afford much before the Hindi heartland could catch up". "Education has been spreading in the Hindi-speaking states and this will have an impact on the growth of population here as well. But until that happens, let the region's representation in Parliament be commensurate with its population", said Kushwaha. He also expressed solidarity with Buddhists demanding full control of the Maha Bodhi Temple at Bodh Gaya, where Buddha is said to have got enlightened 2,500 years ago. "I am myself a Hindu and not a Buddhist. But I would urge my Hindu brethren to show some magnanimity. They are free to have full control of crores of temples. Let them give up their claim on just one and prove that Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam is not a mere slogan", added Kushwaha. He also said, "Some may see me as a stormy petrel. When I was in the first council of ministers of Narendra Modi, my criticism of the collegium system in higher judiciary raised many eyebrows. But I consider myself a trailblazer. Today all parties are speaking against the discriminatory system of appointment of judges in High Courts and the Supreme Court".

LUCKNOW Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national general secretary Tarun Chugh on Sunday said the Modi government has been fighting to eradicate poverty, empower women and Muslims from the day it came to power at the Centre. He said it was very much evident when Colonel Sofiya Qureshi and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh briefed the media during the Operation Sindoor. Addressing the gathering, Chugh said: 'The day the Modi government came to power on May 26, 2014, it has been fighting to eradicate poverty.' The BJP leader listed out various welfare schemes of the Centre in which all sections of the community, including Muslims, are beneficiaries. 'In all welfare schemes of the government, Muslims are beneficiaries in large numbers. Be it housing for the poor, Ujjwala gas, toilets, medical insurance and other such schemes,' Chugh added. 'The Modi government's efforts to empower women was clearly evident when Colonel Sofiya Qureshi and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh briefed the nation during Operation Sindoor,' he said. 'The government gave ration to 80 crore needy people without asking their caste and religion,' the BJP leader added. Speaking on the occasion, deputy CM Brajesh Pathak attacked the Congress and the Samajwadi Party. 'For the Samajwadi Party and the Congress, Muslims are only vote bank. Both the parties have done nothing for Muslims,' Pathak said. 'Your children were left behind in all spheres of life only because of the Congress and the Samajwadi Party,' he added. Further attacking the SP, Pathak said if Muslims do not vote for the Samajwadi Party, it would not be in a position even to get its corporator elected. 'The Modi government is working for the welfare of Muslims. So, Muslims must help Modi ji,' he said. The deputy CM exhorted Muslims to take a firm decision and stop following the Samajwadi Party. PM Modi hails Kalaburagi's jowar rotti initiative
Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his monthly radio address Mann Ki Baat aired on Sunday praised the Kalaburagi district administration for its innovative initiative to empower rural women by bringing women roti producers onto a common cooperative platform and selling the rotis under the Kalaburagi Rotti brand, a jowar-based flatbread, turning a local staple into a recognised regional brand. 'The achievements of Kalaburagi's women in Karnataka are equally remarkable. They have transformed jowar roti into a well-known brand. Over 3,000 rotis are being made every day at their cooperative. The aroma of these rotis is no longer limited to their village. A special counter is already opened in Bengaluru. Orders are coming in through online food platforms. Kalaburagi's roti is now making its way into the kitchens in big cities. This initiative has had a tremendous impact on these women. Their income has increased significantly,' Mr. Modi said. Meanwhile, responding to the Prime Minister's praise, Minister Priyank Kharge, who hails from Kalaburagi, expressed delight, but emphasised the role of the State government behind the success of the initiative. Writing on X, Mr. Kharge said, 'What the Prime Minister described in Mann Ki Baat is actually the result of our Kaam Ki Baat, a testament to the efforts of the Congress government.' Meanwhile, speaking to The Hindu, Deputy Commissioner Fouzia Taranum, the key official behind the initiative, credited the success to the over 1,000 women who are at the heart of the project. 'The women have done an outstanding job. Their dedication and commitment are truly commendable. The real credit belongs to them. We are now planning to open franchise outlets in Hyderabad, Bidar, Pune, Delhi and other cities. I am hopeful that these plans will materialise soon,' she said.
