Bihar police seizes horse for transporting liquor

The horse was seized during a raid conducted by Nautan police and was being used by a local smuggler, identified as
Akash Yadav
, to ferry liquor—an offense under Bihar's strict prohibition laws. While a search is underway to apprehend Yadav, officers now have an added burden of looking after the animal.

, Station House Officer (SHO) of Nautan police station, said the horse is currently being kept on station grounds. 'We are feeding it green grass, chickpeas, and jaggery at the station's expense. Until we find someone suitable to take care of it, the responsibility lies with us,' he explained.
According to the SHO, 'the smugglers have changed their mode of transportation from bikes to horses'.
Police have appealed to higher authorities to help identify an experienced animal lover who can temporarily adopt and care for the horse. Once such a person is found, the horse will be handed over through an official process.

'The person taking custody will be required to sign an affidavit committing to the proper care of the animal,' the SHO said. 'Furthermore, the court will be informed of the handover, and the custodian must be prepared to present the horse in court when necessary throughout the proceedings.'
Upon the conclusion of the legal case, the state government intends to auction the horse. The individual who cared for the animal during the trial will be given the first opportunity to purchase it. Should they decline, the horse will then be offered for public sale.
This case highlights the complex and sometimes unusual challenges faced by law enforcement under the state's prohibition regime.

The breakthrough came after coordinated raids across Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Gujarat, which led to the identification of ten suspects. Six have been arrested, two are already in jail and will be brought on production warrants, while two remain on the run. In a press release, police said the gangs posed as senior police officers, CBI officials, or other law-enforcement authorities over the phone. Victims were falsely accused in fabricated criminal cases and threatened with a so-called 'digital arrest' unless they transferred large sums of money. The scam spanned several states, including a Rs 3-crore fraud targeting residents of SAS Nagar. The case stems from two FIRs lodged at the SAS Nagar Cyber Crime Police Station, Phase-7. Investigators have frozen or closed 310 bank accounts linked to the racket and connected the suspects to a Rs 12.5-crore fraud case registered in Bengaluru under Sections 318(4) and 319(2) of the BNS, and Sections 66(C) and 66(D) of the IT Act. Over the past four months, SAS Nagar Cyber Crime Police have dismantled six illegal call centres, arrested 41 people- including seven foreign nationals- and seized laptops, mobile phones, SIM cards, ATM cards, and multiple bank accounts. They have also cracked a honey-trap case, arrested the mastermind of a fake Railway job racket that duped 25 people, refunded Rs 4.12 crore to victims, and blocked scams worth Rs 2 crore through timely alerts to banks. SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans said the operation was more than just making arrests — it showcased Punjab Police's strong commitment to protecting citizens from cybercrime. He added that their efforts will continue to target such networks, recover stolen money, and ensure every offender is brought to justice.

27-year-old held for robbing 1 tola gold from woman
Hyderabad: A day after a woman was robbed in Narsapur forest, local police on Thursday apprehended the accused, who was found to be a repeat offender. The accused identified as G Bikshapathi, 27, a resident of Medak, was taken into custody, and police recovered the 1-tola gold ornament he had allegedly stolen from the victim. According to the police, Bikshapathi struck up a conversation with the woman and befriended her while they were traveling on a bus. The duo later got off at Narsapur, where he purchased liquor. They then proceeded into the forest area, where the woman was attacked, and her gold ornament forcibly taken from her. Accused throws rice in courtroom, judge sentences him to jail till rising of court
New Delhi: An accused who misbehaved by throwing rice in a courtroom during the proceedings was sentenced to undergo imprisonment until the rising of the court. The lawyers present in court suspected he was practising 'black magic'. The court of additional sessions judge Shefali Barnala Tandon on Aug 11 also imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 and issued a notice to Chander Vibhas under BNS Section 267 (intentional insult or interruption of a public servant sitting in any stage of a judicial proceeding). The accused, through his counsel, submitted that he had been 'misguided' by someone and felt remorse. He undertook not to repeat any such act in the future and kneeled down while seeking an apology. On Aug 2, when the court was on leave, some rice was found thrown on the floor of the court under the dais. The court was informed by the staff that the accused had done this. But the accused submitted that he was present through VC on that day. "Disrespect towards the court or disruption of judicial proceedings sends a damaging public message, and such overt act/behaviour of the accused not only disrupted the court proceedings and undermined the judicial process, but also threatened the very foundation of our legal system," the court observed. "Section 267 of BNS exists to ensure the courts can do their work without harassment or disturbance, preserving both the order of proceedings and the authority of law. The act done by the accused, if left unchecked, will erode the court's ability to function," it added. After the accused tendered an apology and expressed remorse, the judge sentenced him to jail until the rising of the court, along with a Rs 2,000 fine.
