Bollywood stars hitting the streets promoting their films
The Hindi film industry has been facing a turbulent phase over the past few years, with only a few films managing to make a mark at the box office annually. Major stars like Akshay Kumar and Salman Khan have suffered back-to-back flops, while Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan have significantly reduced their film output to one release every two or three years. With dwindling theatre footfalls, audiences are increasingly opting to watch content on OTT platforms instead.
Realising the need for stronger audience engagement, Bollywood stars are now stepping out of their comfort zones and returning to aggressive ground-level promotions to draw crowds back to cinemas. The era of stars relying solely on press meets and media coverage appears to be over, replaced by direct public interaction.
Recently, Akshay Kumar surprised fans by donning a mask and visiting a local theatre screening his latest film Housefull 5. He discreetly gathered public feedback without being recognised. Before most could realise who he was, Akshay left the premises. The video of this unique promotional stunt quickly went viral, earning praise from netizens. While Housefull 5 is seeing only average box office returns, Akshay's efforts have injected hope into the industry.
Meanwhile, Aamir Khan, known for his innovative promotions, is back in action. To promote his upcoming film Sitare Zameen Par, the actor was spotted selling vada pavs on a Mumbai street. With his last release Laal Singh Chaddha failing to impress, Aamir is determined to bounce back when the new film releases on June 20.
As senior stars lead the way with unconventional promotional strategies, questions arise about the younger generation of actors. Will they follow suit and step up their efforts to reconnect with audiences? Only time will tell.

Thug Life's box office collection day 7 (live): Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam's film slows down
'Thug Life,' starring and directed by , hit the screen on 5 June 2025 with large-scale expectations. The highly anticipated film opened with a net of an impressive ₹ 15.5 crore on 1 day, mainly thanks to Tamil Nadu's contribution of ₹ 13.35 crore. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now However, despite the grand opening, the film received a mixed response from the audience. While many praised its ambitious realm and artistic execution, others found its narrative style less attractive, especially in non-nominees, where the Telugu and Hindi versions were brought only in a minor number. Sharp drop and low occupancy After a strong start, 'Thug Life' experienced a significant decline in the collection, earning 7.15 crores on day 2, which was a 53% decline according to Sacnilk. The film recovered a little with ₹ 7.75 crore on Saturday and then again to ₹ 6.5 crore on Sunday. Workdays were difficult: Monday's ₹ 2.3 crore declined to ₹ 1.77 crore on Tuesday, and on Wednesday, only 0.35 crore. The film's week one reached a total of ₹ 41.32 crores. Tamil occupancy on day 7 was 13.14% less, with less than 14% registration at noon and morning, showing a weak occupancy. Despite a talented actors' contingent and Mani Ratnam's direction, the film's cerebral tone and large-scale elements deficiency have limited its box office legs. The plot, cast, and what lies ahead 'Thug Life' tells the story of Rangaraaya Naicker, who is a person who returns to his violent roots on emotional levels of identity and justice. Kamal Haasan led the actors in the lead roles along with Silambarasan, Trisha, Ashok Selvan, Jujo George, and Gautham Karthik. With music scored by AR Rahman, cinematography by Ravi K Chandran, and editing by Srikar Prasad, the film has top-level technical cleverness. However, the box office trajectory now depends on its second-weekend performance and foreign reception, as the film reduces interest in domestic cinemas.

'Housefull 5' box office collection day 6 (LIVE): The multi-starrer movie has a decent beginning on Wednesday after crossing Rs 110 crore
After 'Housefull 5' had a good opening day number along with jump over the weekend, all eyes were on the weekday numbers which would play a crucial role in determining the film's fate. But it has managed to hold decently well on Monday and Tuesday. Of course, while a dip on Monday was expected, the film will manage to sail through if it manages to stick to a double digit number this whole week. Plus, there's also some growth expected on the second weekend. The film had an opening of Rs 24 crore on Day 1. On Saturday and Sunday, it minted Rs 31 crore and Rs 32.5 crore respectively. On Monday though, it saw a dip of around 60 percent, making Rs 13 crore. On Tursday, which is day 5, it again saw a drop but atleast remained in the two digit numbers. The early trend of Wednesday also looks similar to Tuesday. On Day 6, till the morning and afternoon shows, it has made Rs 2.35 crore. The total collection so far, in India, according to Sacnilk is Rs 114.1 crore. It should be able to make minimum Rs 10 crore on day 6 and remain the same on Thursday and Friday as well. The film being a multistarrer and shot on a cruise with some exquisite production values is mounted on a huge budget of over Rs 225 crore. Thus, it's very important for the movie to continue to hold up well. It was expected to cross the Rs 100 crore mark in four days which it has managed to do very well. The collection and trend for the film is much better than Salman Khan 's 'Sikandar'. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Ready-to-Move In 2/3 BHK @ ₹5400/Sqft Undo Just 10 min to Annanagar Undo Fully equipped with Modern amenities Undo However, the coming days and the upcoming weekend will be crucial. Aamir Khan 's 'Sitaare Zameen Par' is releasing on June 20 and that may serve some competition to it. The number of screens for 'Housefull 2' may also reduce, which may lead to a dip in the numbers. But till then, the film has an open window to continue to perform well at the box office. However, the trade feels that had this one been a family entertainer, just like its previous parts, it would have done even better in some sectors. This time around, it has a bit of an adult comedy with an element of a thriller.
