Andhra Speaker seeks probe into land grabbing
The letter refers to a news article in a vernacular, which quoted Visakhapatnam JSP Corporator Peethala Murthy Yadav accusing some leaders and officials of issuing No Objection Certificates (NOCs) irregularly. In his letter, Ayyanna mentioned that Murthy Yadav alleged that land grabbing by leaders affiliated with the previous YSRCP government was continuing under the current regime, with the alleged support of certain revenue officials and IAS officers.
Ayyanna expressed concern over being named in the video, where Yadav claimed that a land parcel in Survey No. 14-1 of Visakhapatnam Rural mandal, Endada-2, covering 5 acres and 10 cents, was issued an NOC allegedly with the help of YSRCP leaders. Denying any involvement, Patrudu said the allegations were baseless and intended to damage his reputation.
He noted that land issues in Visakhapatnam have persisted for years due to rising land values and called for urgent measures to protect the interests of genuine landholders. Recalling that the previous TDP government had constituted a Special Enquiry Committee to address similar concerns, he emphasised that land encroachments still affect many citizens.
In his letter, the Speaker urged the revenue minister to order an investigation into the specific case of Survey No. 14-1 and submit the findings before the start of the next Assembly session. He also recommended that the Revenue Department prepare proposals to strengthen mechanisms that prevent misuse of power for land acquisition. He suggested the government consider amending relevant laws and policies.

He also accused Naidu of planning to "suppress voter turnout and block media coverage." Despite these allegations, Jagan expressed confidence that "truth and justice will ultimately prevail." Andhra Pradesh farmers' unions accuse governments of illegal land grabs
Farmers' and agricultural workers' unions in Andhra Pradesh have accused both the previous YSRCP regime and the current TDP-led coalition of unlawfully acquiring 1,91,472 acres of fertile, multi-crop farmland over the past decade, bypassing provisions of the 2013 Land Acquisition and Rehabilitation Act. At a statewide public discussion held here on Sunday, the Andhra Pradesh Rythu Sangham and Andhra Pradesh Agricultural Workers' Union brought together High Court lawyers, displaced families, and movement leaders to highlight what they called 'a decade of illegal land grabs' in 173 villages across 64 mandals in 18 districts. They alleged that police force was misused to seize land, causing severe damage to the State's economy, cutting rural jobs, and threatening future food grain security. While emphasising they were 'not against development,' the unions condemned the transfer of forcibly acquired land to corporates without fair compensation or proper rehabilitation. The unions listed major projects — from airports and highways to steel plants, solar parks, SEZs, ports, and the Amaravati capital region — which they claimed diverted nearly 20% of the State's cultivated land for corporate use without delivering the promised jobs or industrial growth. They further alleged that in some cases 'not even 10 government jobs' were offered to displaced people, while locals in Amaravati's Secretariat were given only low-paying roles such as watchmen and sweepers. In areas where farmers' organisations resisted, land acquisition failed, they said, while in other places compensation has been pending for decades, citing Polavaram oustees as an example. The groups demanded that the Centre and the State strictly follow the 2013 Act, ensuring farmland for industries is acquired only with farmers' consent and after full compensation and rehabilitation. They warned against further forcible acquisitions for corporates and investors, urging lawful and transparent processes. V. Krishnayya, State president, Rythu Sangham; K. Prabhakar Reddy, State secretary, Rythu Sangham; D. Subba Rao, State president, Agricultural Workers' Union; and V. Venkateswarlu, State general secretary, Agricultural Workers' Union, addressed the meeting.

Undemocratic, Anarchic: Jagan Mohan Reddy Slams Chandrababu Naidu Over ZPTC By-Elections
YSR Congress Party president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy launched a scathing attack on Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, accusing him of being an 'undemocratic and anarchic' figure. Reddy accused Naidu of resorting to conspiracies, attacks, atrocities, lies, cheating, and backstabbing to cling to power instead of winning public support through genuine work. Reddy also accused Naidu of misusing his authority to manipulate the electoral process and prevent free and fair polling in the Pulivendula and Ontimitta ZPTC by-elections 'Chandrababu Naidu is an undemocratic and anarchic figure who, instead of winning people's affection through genuine work, resorts to conspiracies, attacks, atrocities, lies, cheating, and backstabbing to seize power. This is once again being proven before our eyes. In the Pulivendula and Ontimitta ZPTC by-elections, he is undermining democracy through shameless politics, misusing his authority to prevent free and fair polls,' Jagan Mohan Reddy said in a post on X. TDP and YSRCP are locked in a bitter fight in the ZPTC by-election in Pulivendula, the Assembly constituency represented by Jagan Mohan Reddy. YSR Jagan alleged that from the moment the by-election notification was issued, police atrocities began. Hundreds of YSRCP leaders and workers were bound over, including people with no previous police cases, solely to intimidate them. He said that on August 5, TDP gangs attacked YSRCP leaders attending a wedding in Pulivendula. Amaresh Reddy and Saidapuram Suresh Reddy were severely injured. Others were also attacked as a warning against supporting YSRCP. On August 6, TDP gangs attempted to murder YSRCP MLC Ramesh Yadav and YSRCP leader Velpula Ramalinga Reddy near Nallagondavaripalle. Their car was smashed with sticks, stones, and rods, and petrol was poured in an attempt to set it on fire. Police stood by as silent spectators, alleged Jagan. The former CM said that instead of arresting the attackers, police filed a false SC/ST case on August 6 against Velpula Ramu and about 50 others, making several arrests and planning more on polling day. On August 8, after threatening and luring a YSRCP leader to switch sides, the ruling party obtained a false complaint and police issued notices to Raghavareddy, Gangadharareddy, Y.S. Bhaskar Reddy, and Devireddy Shivashankar Reddy. The same day, officials shifted polling booths from villages to far-off locations, forcing around 4,000 YSRCP-supporting voters in Pulivendula ZPTC to travel 2 to 4 km, facing threats and attacks on the way. This creates scope for booth capturing and rigging, the YSRCP chief said. On the night of August 8, in the false case against Velpula Ramalinga Reddy, 12 people were arrested. Some were at the police station during the alleged incident, yet were still charged. After evidence was shown, four were released but eight were remanded. 'On polling day, TDP plans to suppress voter turnout and hide its attacks, atrocities, and booth capturing by controlling media coverage. Gangs are prepared to destroy live broadcast vehicles and equipment to stop the truth from reaching the public,' Jagan Mohan Reddy said. 'In truth, one should feel ashamed to even call these democratic elections. Still, I have faith in God and in the people. Ultimately, dharma will prevail,' he added.
