PRCA MENA launches its workplace mental health survey 2025

PRCA MENA, the regional arm of the global PR body, has launched the 2025 edition of its Mental Health Survey, developed in partnership with YouGov and led by the PRCA MENA Mental Health Committee.
The initiative aims to better understand how professionals across the public relations and communications industry in the Middle East and North Africa are experiencing and addressing mental health in the workplace.
Commenting on the survey, Conrad Egbert, Head of PRCA MENA, said, 'As the region's communication industry continues to grow, so does our responsibility to create healthier, more inclusive workplaces. This survey is not just about measuring sentiment, it's about listening carefully and using that insight to shape better standards for the future. We hope everyone takes a moment to contribute.'
88 percent of professionals felt their workplace had a direct impact on their mental wellbeing in the 2024 edition of the report.
The 2025 survey will measure progress and shed light on how far the region has come in building healthier, more sustainable working cultures.
The data collected will shape the PRCA MENA Mental Health Report 2025, to be released later this year.
The annual survey follows the 2024 iteration of the report, which highlighted a growing openness around mental health, along with a noticeable increase in support structures across some organisations.
Yet challenges persist. Last year's report revealed that 88 percent of professionals felt their workplace had a direct impact on their mental wellbeing and 15 percent said they still received no mental health support at all.
Sarah Waddington CBE, CEO of PRCA, said, 'If we want to retain talent and foster high-performing teams, we need to prioritise the mental health of our people. Surveys like this are critical in not just understanding the pressure points, but in helping businesses respond with empathy and structure. Data leads to dialogue and dialogue leads to action.'
The survey is open to all PR and communications professionals in the region. It is completely anonymous and takes less than five minutes to complete.

UAE residents prioritise health features in home purchases, survey reveals

A nationwide survey of over 1,000 UAE residents has found that 90 per cent consider a healthy home environment essential, with more than 80 per cent willing to pay a premium for properties that support wellbeing. The research, conducted by in partnership with YouGov, indicates a shift in the UAE property market towards homes that combine standard luxury with health-focused features. Wellness drives UAE real estate According to the findings, 92 per cent of participants consider indoor air quality 'extremely' or 'very' important to their health, while 93 per cent place similar importance on access to purified water at home. 'At we have always understood that properties should not only be places to live, but spaces that people can thrive and experience a better quality of life,' Alex Zagrebelny, Founder and CEO of The survey reveals that 90 per cent of residents value natural light and fresh air in their homes, while 75 per cent seek nature-inspired designs such as indoor plants and views of greenery. Additionally, 68 per cent consider wellness amenities like spas and meditation zones important to their living experience. Half of the respondents reported familiarity with the concept of 'Longevity Real Estate', which focuses on building homes that support long-term health and quality of life. Nearly 50 per cent stated they would be 'extremely likely' to spend more on homes designed to support physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. Eywa: Dubai's wellness redefined In response to this demand, has developed Eywa, a residential project in Dubai's Business Bay. Set for completion in 2026, Eywa is the region's only residential development to achieve both WELL Platinum and LEED Platinum certifications. The structure features a 16-tonne Crystal Pyramid housing 3,355 crystals and semi-precious stones, which the developers claim works to cleanse energy and enhance focus, sleep and cellular health. Residences include air and water filtration systems, soundproof walls, terraces with greenery and private plunge pools. The development also offers services such as a 24-hour concierge, in-house chefs and children's facilities. Eywa has established partnerships with clinics specialising in longevity and traditional medicine. Residents can access personalised health recommendations, from DNA testing to Ayurvedic treatments. The development incorporates sustainability features, including a self-cleaning terracotta façade that eliminates the need for chemicals and irrigation systems using 100 per cent recycled water. 'We have been dedicated to this mission of focusing on residents' wellbeing for decades, and the results of this survey validate what we've always believed: that people are searching for more than square footage. Today, there has been a recent shift in the number of developers embracing wellness in their properties, prioritising the holistic balance of body, spirit, and mind, and Eywa is the answer to that call,' Zagrebelny added.

A recent survey commissioned by the Malaysian Palm Oil Council has uncovered significant insights into UAE residents' frying habits and awareness of cooking oil health implications during Ramadan. The YouGov study, which surveyed 1,200 residents aged 18 and above, found that 42 percent of participants consume more fried foods during Ramadan and Eid. Crucially, 55 percent remain unaware of oil smoke points – a critical factor in determining healthy frying practices. UAE residents would consider switching to an oil with a higher smoke point Experts warn that using oils beyond their smoke point can produce harmful compounds. Dr. Dana Al-Hamwi, a clinical dietician at Dubai London Hospital, said: 'Raising awareness about oil smoke points is crucial, especially during Ramadan. When oil reaches its smoke point, it breaks down and releases harmful compounds and toxic fumes. Using the wrong oil for frying can produce free radicals that may contribute to inflammation and chronic diseases, affect the taste and quality of food, and might lead to digestive issues and discomfort after Iftar.' The survey revealed an encouraging trend: 53 percent of respondents would consider switching to an oil with a higher smoke point if educated about its health benefits. Dr. Al-Hamwi recommends using oils with smoke points above 200°C, including: Avocado oil Palm oil Refined sunflower oil Canola oil She advises against using extra virgin olive oil, flaxseed oil, and walnut oil for deep frying. Dr. Mishika Khithani, a Functional Medicine and Integrative Physician, highlighted the risks of seed oils. 'While occasional consumption of fried foods is acceptable, the type of oil used is crucial. Using seed oils to fry foods can significantly impact one's health and drive-up inflammatory markers leading to metabolic dysfunction, obesity, and cardiovascular problems. These oils are a significant source of oxidative stress to the body because they may skew the ideal omega-6:omega-3 ratio if consumed in excess. An important health tip is to never reuse any oil for frying once it has crossed its smoke point,' she said. Palm oil emerges as a promising alternative, with a high smoke point of 235°C. The oil is trans-fat-free and rich in Vitamin E antioxidants, particularly tocotrienols, which offer enhanced protective properties. For healthier frying during Ramadan, experts recommend: Using fresh oil Frying at medium-high heat (180°C) Draining excess oil with paper towels Considering baking or air frying as alternatives The study underscores the importance of consumer education in promoting healthier cooking practices during religious festivities without compromising taste or tradition.
