Barrie man charged with speeding and impaired driving on Highway 400
A Southern Georgian Bay OPP officer conducted the traffic stop just after 7:30 a.m. in Georgian Bay Township after spotting the speeding offence.
Police say the driver showed signs of impairment and was transported to the OPP detachment for further investigation.
The 36-year-old man was eventually released from custody with a future court date to answer to the speeding and impaired driving charges.
As a result of the impaired offence, he was slapped with a 90-day driver's licence suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment.
Police urge motorists to report suspected impaired drivers by calling 911.
'In doing so, you may save a life,' OPP stated. Additionally, police urge motorists planning to consume alcohol or drugs to make arrangements to avoid getting behind the wheel.
'Any amount of alcohol or drugs can impact your ability to make sound judgements,' OPP concluded.
