4 men get good behaviour bond, 1 fined RM600 over football brawl
PETALING JAYA : The Teluk Intan magistrates' court released four men on a good behaviour bond while another man was slapped with a RM600 fine over their involvement in a brawl during a football match last week.
Magistrate Naidatul Athirah Azman ordered a six-month good behaviour bond for Harith Nazreen Shah Abd Ghani, 21, Danial Asmawi, 23, R Tharmaraj, 28, and E Paranitharan, 29, after they pleaded guilty to committing affray.
The four men, who were playing in the match, were charged along with another person still at large with committing the offence at Padang Speedy in Teluk Intan between 5.15pm and 6pm on Aug 7, Harian Metro reported.
The charges were framed under Section 160 of the Penal Code, which provides for up to six months in prison, a maximum RM1,000 fine, or both if convicted.
Deputy public prosecutor Nur Darwis Aghniya Halim Azizi had asked the court to impose a commensurate sentence to serve as a deterrent to the public, stating that the incident had gone viral online.
M Saravanan of the National Legal Aid Foundation, who served as lawyer for Harith and Danial, said the guilty pleas had saved the court's time and all four had since made up and become friends.
'They shook hands and have apologised to each other. They humbly request the court to be given a second chance,' he said, adding that this was the first offence for all four men.
The court then ordered all four to sign a RM500 good behaviour bond for six months.
Tharmaraj and Paranitharan were represented by lawyers Charan Singh and S Morgan respectively.
The court then imposed a fine of RM600 on another man, Kuzairin Kamaruddin, 31, after he pleaded guilty to voluntarily causing hurt to a referee at the same match. He will have to serve two months in prison if he fails to pay the fine.
Kuzairin was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of a year's imprisonment, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both upon conviction.

He also suffers from other complications that further increase his risk of infection and place him at risk of gangrene. Ong is the founder of Singapore-based Hotel Properties Limited which is a shareholder of various businesses, including Hard Rock resorts and Four Seasons resorts across Europe and Asia.

Bung to testify in graft case on Monday

KUALA LUMPUR : Bung Moktar Radin, who was ordered to enter his defence on charges of corruption over a RM150 million Felcra investment almost three years ago, is expected to take the witness stand at the sessions court on Monday. M Athimulan, the lawyer for the Kinabatangan MP and Sabah Umno chief, confirmed the matter. 'Yes, the defence will begin their case on Monday,' he told FMT in a text message. The trial, to be presided over by sessions court judge Rosli Ahmad, is also fixed for Tuesday and Wednesday. On Sept 2, 2022, then sessions court judge Rozina Ayob ordered Bung and his wife, Zizie Izette Abdul Samad, to enter their defence after ruling that the prosecution had established a prima facie case against them. Zizie is charged with abetting her husband. The High Court acquitted them of the charges following a revision application after it ruled that Rozina had erred in calling them to answer the charges. Last year, the Court of Appeal allowed the prosecution's appeal to order the couple to enter the defence, saying that the revision application was premature. Three months ago, Bung and Zizie failed to set aside the appellate court's decision. Bung, the non-executive chairman of Felcra at the time, was charged with two counts of receiving bribes of RM2.2 million and RM262,500 as an inducement to obtain Felcra's approval to invest RM150 million in Public Mutual unit trusts. He is alleged to have accepted bribes from Norhaili Madhi, a Public Mutual investment agent, through Zizie. He was also charged with receiving a bribe of RM337,500 from Norhaili under Zizie's name at the same location on June 19, 2015. Zizie faces three charges of abetting Bung in the commission of the alleged offences. Lawyer K Kumaraendran is appearing for Zizie, while deputy public prosecutors Law Chin How and Fadhly Zamry are representing the prosecution.

High Court upholds sexual assault conviction against counselling teacher

(Facebook pic) PETALING JAYA : A former boarding school counselling teacher who was convicted of sexually assaulting six male students three years ago had his conviction upheld by the Kuching High Court today. The 35-year-old man had been found guilty by the Kuching sessions court in October 2022 of six charges of sexual assault, each carrying a 15-year sentence. Judicial commissioner Faridz Gohim Abdullah ordered the prison sentences to be served concurrently, reported Dayak Daily. Faridz also upheld the sentence of 24 strokes of the rotan. According to the facts of the case, the teacher committed the offences against victims aged between 14 and 16, between 11.30pm and 4.00am on separate days in March, April, and May 2018, within the school compound. Investigations revealed that several of the students were assaulted more than once.
