Kelly Clarkson Fans Shocked By Singer Canceling Vegas Residency Over Ex-Husband's Illness After Divorce Drama
While many fans praised her decision, others expressed frustration over the short notice and concerns about a refund. Several also highlighted her divorce struggles with her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock.
Kelly Clarkson also recently opened up about the emotional challenges of co-parenting post-divorce, highlighting societal double standards in parenting expectations.
Kelly Clarkson Puts Family First: Postpones Vegas Residency
Clarkson has announced the unexpected pause of her Las Vegas residency, sharing an emotional update that has touched fans worldwide.
On Thursday morning, the 43-year-old singer took to Instagram Stories to reveal that she's postponing the remaining August dates of her "Studio Sessions" at Caesars Palace. The decision, she explained, comes from a deeply personal place.
In a statement, the "Stronger" singer shared, "Unfortunately, I need to postpone the remainder of the August Studio Session dates in Las Vegas. While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children's father has been ill, and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them."
Though the news is undoubtedly disappointing for fans who were looking forward to her performances, Clarkson expressed her heartfelt gratitude and apologized for the sudden change of plans.
"I am sincerely sorry to everyone who bought tickets to the shows, and I appreciate your grace, kindness, and understanding," she added.
Fans React To The Singer's Residency Postponement With Mixed Comments
In the wake of Clarkson's announcement that she would postpone her Las Vegas shows, fans took to social media to share their thoughts.
On X (formerly Twitter), many loyal fans stood firmly behind the singer's decision to prioritize her family. "You and your family come first, and true fans will understand," one supporter wrote.
Another added, "Kelly, take all the time you need, darling, we're sending you lots of love and support and plenty of hugs. Family comes first. We love you, darling."
Clarkson also got praised for seemingly supporting her ex-husband, Blackstock, despite the issues surrounding their divorce.
One person said, "You're a saint bc how?? After all he did to you?? Girl, teach me."
Another noted, "Because her kids are still his kids, and you have to put that aside for them! They still need their dad, regardless of what he put her through."
However, not all responses were kind, as some voiced frustration about the rescheduled dates and refund policies.
"What a joke to reschedule," one critic wrote. "At least cancel and issue refunds. Most people won't know if they're going to be able to attend 12 months from now. And what happens if you 'postpone' again this time next year? We're just supposed to live without our money forever?"
Kelly Clarkson Pulled The Plug On Her Vegas Opener Just Minutes Before Showtime
In a surprise move back in July, Clarkson canceled what was supposed to be the grand kickoff of her highly anticipated Las Vegas residency just over an hour before stepping on stage.
The show, "Kelly Clarkson: Studio Sessions – The Las Vegas Residency," had been promoted as an intimate, behind-the-scenes musical experience, promising to bring fans closer to the magic of her studio work. But with only 90 minutes to go, fans were stunned by a sudden announcement: the first two shows at Caesars Palace were officially postponed.
Taking to Instagram, the "Just Sing" singer opened up about the difficult decision. "We have been working 24/7 to make Studio Sessions the most intimate and extraordinary experience with and for my incredible fans," she wrote. "I am beyond grateful that you always show up for me, and I am devastated to have to postpone tonight and tomorrow's opening at Caesars."
The Singer Said Rehearsals For The Show Put A Strain On Her Voice
In her statement, Clarkson revealed that intense "prep and rehearsals" had strained her voice, and that she wanted "the shows to be perfect for y'all."
She added, "I need to protect myself from doing serious damage, so I am taking this weekend and next week to rest up so that we can deliver what you all deserve."
Despite the disappointment, Kelly reassured fans that the show was something worth waiting for: "The show is truly incredible.
The musicians and singers are outstanding, and I want us all to start out strong." "I can't wait to be back next weekend and show y'all what we've been working on," she concluded.
Kelly Clarkson Opens Up About Co-Parenting Challenges After Divorce
Clarkson shares two children, daughter River Rose and son Remington Alexander, with her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock.
Earlier this year, Clarkson offered a rare glimpse into her post-divorce parenting experience. During a March episode of Kylie Kelce's podcast "Not Gonna Lie," the singer reflected on the quiet emotional struggles of co-parenting.
She subtly addressed an imbalance she's observed in her children's expectations of her versus their father. While discussing how kids react to their parents' busy schedules, Clarkson agreed with Kelce's point that children tend to be more understanding when fathers are unavailable.
"Isn't it funny, though, how different it is? Even from a young age, we didn't teach them, just innately you're like... he's allowed to be somewhere, but you're not? That is like real interesting. Yeah, there's a lot that I keep in," Clarkson shared.
Blackstock and Clarkson tied the knot in 2013 but separated in 2020, with their divorce finalized in 2022.

Brandon Blackstock's obituary omits ex-wife Kelly Clarkson, reveals 'loving' relationship with former assistant Brittney Marie Jones
According to People magazine, Jones was Clarkson's production assistant before becoming Blackstock's executive assistant. Brandon Blackstock, Kelly Clarkson's ex-husband, was in a 'loving' relationship with Brittney Marie Jones, her former production assistant and his executive assistant, at the time of his death, according to an obituary shared online by his family. Blackstock died on Aug. 7 at his home in Butte, Mont., after a three-year battle with melanoma, a form of skin cancer. The obituary describes Jones as Blackstock's 'beautiful and loving partner in life and business.' Blackstock and Jones had 'started building a life, building companies, and working tirelessly to create Headwaters Livestock Auction and what will live on as his legacy, The Valley View Rodeo in Bozeman, Montana,' per the obituary, which was posted to the Axelson Funeral & Cremation Services website in Butte. It makes no mention of Clarkson, with whom he shared two children: their 11-year-old daughter, River Rose, and Remy Alexander, their 9-year-old son. They were married from 2013 to 2020, when Clarkson filed for divorce. A highly-publicized and acrimonious split followed. Their divorce was finalized in 2022. The obituary also does not mention Blackstock's first wife, Melissa Ashworth, with whom he shared two children: Savannah, 23, and Seth, 18. Blackstock and Ashworth were married from 2001 to 2012. (Savannah revealed in July that she is expecting her second child with her husband early next year.) All of Blackstock's children and grandchildren are named in the obit, as well as his parents, stepparents (including his former stepmother, Reba McEntire), grandparents, siblings, stepsiblings and son-in-law. Who is Brittney Marie Jones? According to People magazine, Jones was Clarkson's former production assistant. Jones worked full-time for Clarkson in Nashville from 2016 to 2018, according to her LinkedIn profile. Jones served as Blackstock's executive assistant at Starstruck Entertainment, the talent agency founded by his father, from 2018 to 2020. As part of that role, Jones was 'based in Los Angeles to be on the set of The Kelly Clarkson Show' and helped manage Clarkson's day-to-day schedule, according to the LinkedIn page. In June 2020, the same month Clarkson filed for divorce, she became an executive assistant at V Bar V Cattle Co., a Montana ranch owned by Blackstock. The day before Blackstock's death, Clarkson revealed that she was postponing the remaining August dates of her Las Vegas residency to support her children amid Blackstock's illness. 'Unfortunately, I need to postpone the remainder of the August Studio Session dates in Las Vegas,' Clarkson announced in a post on Instagram. 'While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children's father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them.' Blackstock's death was announced the next day. "It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away," a representative for his family said in a statement to multiple news outlets. "Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family's privacy during this very difficult time."

Kelly Clarkson Finally Reveals Emotional Health News After Missing Her Talk Show & Concerts: ‘While I Normally Keep My Personal Life Private… ‘
After months of speculation, Kelly Clarkson finally revealed the real reason she's been missing episodes of her talk show and her concerts. In an Instagram post on August 6, 2025, Clarkson announced that she had to postpone the August 2025 dates of her Kelly Clarkson: Studio Sessions residency in Las Vegas, Nevada, to care for her kids—daughter River Rose and son Remington Alexander—amid her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock's illness. 'Unfortunately, I need to postpone the remainder of the August Studio Session dates in Las Vegas,' she wrote. 'While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children's father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them.' More from StyleCaster Kelly Clarkson's 'Hidden' Health Battle Revealed After She Mysteriously Missed Her Talk Show & Residency-She's 'Incredibly Close to Needing Surgery' Did Kelly Clarkson Just 'Bash' Taylor & Travis? What She Said About Their Romance She continued, 'I'm sincerely sorry to everyone who bought tickets to the shows and I so appreciate your grace, kindness and understanding.' Clarkson and Blackstock were married from 2013 to 2022. Clarkson's residency, which is held at The Colosseum at the Caesars Palace hotel in Paradise, Nevada, was set to run for four dates in August 2025. The residency is scheduled to end on November 15. Clarkson also previously canceled two dates in July 2025, citing vocal preservation. 'We have been working 24/7 to make Studio Sessions the most intimate and extraordinary experience with and for my incredible fans,' she wrote in an Instagram post July 4 hours before she was set to perform. 'I am beyond grateful that you always show up for me and I am devastated to have to postpone tonight and tomorrow's opening at Caesars.' She continued, 'The prep and rehearsals have taken a toll on my voice. I want the shows to be perfect for y'all and I need to protect myself from doing serious damage so I am taking this weekend and next week to rest up so that we can deliver what you all deserve.' 'Clarkson first sparked health concerns in March 2025 when she unexpectedly missed a taping of her talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show, and had actor Simu Liu, who was supposed to be a guest on that episode, step in as host. 'Kelly isn't able to make it today. We're sending her our very best,' he told the audience at the time. 'I did not know that I was doing this until about five minutes ago when I arrived to promote my new movie Last Breath.' He continued, 'I'm here now, and look, I'm not one to back down from a challenge.' She also missed several more episodes that month and was replaced by celebrity guests like Roy Wood Jr., Wanda Sykes, Josh Groban, Willie Geist, Brooke Shields, Molly Sims, Kal Penn, Andy Cohen, Tyler Perry, and Ellen Pompeo. Amid concern over her health, TMZ reported at the time that Clarkson was missing from her talk show due to a personal matter that didn't directly involve her, which seems to correlate to her post about Blackstock's illness. TMZ also confirmed at the time that Clarkson's health was fine.
